Performence with the new 3d engine?

Better or worse?

I haven't decided whether I should pre-order TA because my graphics card might not be able to handle it. My card is the new intel x3100. I have 2 gigs of ram and a T7300 processor. I know this card is not a 'gaming' card, but it does at least have hardware shaders. In DA, on a medium map my frame rate is about 50 fps at the start of the game. However, later in the game, if the screen is cluttered with tradelanes, starbases, and over a dozen ships, it dips to 15fps, sometimes even 10 fps if I am zoomed way out. Even late game, its still quite playable because it rarely dips below 15, and I can usually adjust the zoom level to compensate and achieve a higher fps.

Is the 3d engine in TA more demanding?

I just turned on 'enhanced ship rendering' in the video options menu and in the cluttered areas where i was getting 15fps zoomed all the way out (before the icons replace objects), I am now getting 22 fps. I've had 'enhanced ship rendering' turned off this whole time because I thought it would result in slower frame rates. Guess not...

Yes, the enhanced rendering option is a faster engine, but it's toggleable because older video cards/chips can't properly handle it (so it *does* run much slower or cause problems on them).

I have the x3100, and TA runs great. However, im getting 17 fps on the search screen for some reason. Otherwise, frame rate is usually 30+, unless there is a massive amount of stuff on the screen. Even then, usually doesnt go below 20fps.
