Maybe the Thalans came up with a new chocolate cake recipe, and invited the Yor and the Terrans to come check it out. After all, who doesn't like chocolate cake?

Recently I quit upgrading my SBs with military equipment, because only very rarely were those upgraded SBs actually attacked. Also, for the amount of needed constructors and resources put in them, I could build a formidable fleet that could defend several SBs and planets. This is the general consesus that I have seen on the forums. I don't put

Once I started playing higher than Tough, I now turn off all the other victory conditions, and only go for conquest. I've never won a diplomatic or a technological victory. Just doesn't feel like victory to me. The only time I have made alliances is with a more powerful opponent so I have time to build up before I stab him in the back. Tech victory seems to boring, and once you have a cultural victory in your hands, you might as well just clean up. I usually play Huge, commo

If you are able to take a planet from the AI every other turn or so, they should consider your military to be superior, I think. Perhaps even if it is technically not superior. For instance, my current game, masochistic, huge, 9 opponents, no tech trading. I started a war early in the game against the Drengin. My ships are pathetic. Their military rank is stronger, their soldiering is higher, but I took 1/3 of their planets and they still haven't sent even 1 ship against me. Thei

I like Kirk00's idea. I think something is needed, and a build queue would be great. I will usually go through a starbase upgrade phase between wars, which I have many planets sending out constructors. Not knowing if a starbase is fully upgraded is the worst part. Sometimes I know a particular starbase is fully upgraded, but have know idea which constructors are heading towards it. Then the popup comes up, "Do you want to upgrade mining starbase 4834?" Which one is that? Um...ye

I haven't noticed anything specific with luck. I tried one game with +25 luck attribute and then chose universalists for another +25. I didn't get any resources in my immediate territory. Pretty unlucky, I think.

Velveeta is pretty smooth and pretty cheesy, so I'd rank it high. If you were to get any cheesier, you'd probably have to go with nacho. Spongebob Mac'n'cheese would be lower, but probably higher than a ham and cheese sandwich.

I have a save game slot "Invasion". I save before invading a planet and if I don't like how it turns out I can do it again. This is a classic cheese that works for many pc games. To add to that, start a game, save on your first turn. Then scout for quality planets and resources. Once you have the good stuff memorized, reload your game and send

I never experienced a game that required me to modify settings on my comp (other than graphics of course)so this all took me off guard. I almost feel sorry for an entire generation of gamers who have never had to continously adjust the order they load drivers in the config.sys file, in order to maximize available base memory. Gamers who didn't h

I orginally come from Wisconsin, which has winter lows around 0 deg F on average. Not the coldest, but if you go to school at the University of WI in Madison, the campus is right between two lakes, with winds making the wind chill in the neighborhood of -40 deg F on the worst nights. Send some of that balmy Wisconsin weather up here to North Dako

Residual effects of drug "experimentation": 5% Whoa! That's the missing 5% I can never account for! Now I get it. What, everytime they fix one thing it causes problems with something else?

I have found that for the most part, they do use the bonus tiles pretty well. Especially the production bonuses. The one thing I would like to change is their tendency to put non-destructable buildings on them. Taking over a planet and finding a Technology Capitol on a +300% research(don't beleive it helps in that case) can be irratating.

But seriously folks, shouldn't there be some policy about thread necromancy? It's certainly nice to be able to go through ancient posts searching for lost gems of wisdom, but at some point shouldn't replies to old threads be locked out. I'm not sure how I feel about this. I'll have to think about it. Should have something for you by January. <i

I just ran into the same problem, no submission prompt. It is odd. Never had trouble before.

William Shatner was reported as saying, 'the idea scared him silly and he had no intention of puking his guts up in zero gee'. Well, several hours in a small cabin with Paris Hilton would be rough on my stomach, too.

I agree with what was said here earlier about playing in the Metaverse, and wanting to see that final score. When I first started(a whole 3 weeks ago), I played a gigantic on beginner. Big mistake, I got bored and stopped playing after I obviously had the AI civs dominated, and didn't feel like cleaning up all their planets. I do wish there were some more diplomacy options, like demanding a surrender. Or refusing to see their embassador if you want them to feel the pain. Or boarding

I agree with doomfest, i've wanted some really big heated battles with thousands of ships. Ow, the maintenance costs...

Doesn't seem fairthat billions of brave soldiers should cease to exist because I do a little remodeling. Perhaps your bulkheads didn't seal properly when your workers cut open the hull? Did you do your remodeling in open space or in dock? I think this has happened to me before, too. But I thought that was because I upgraded a colony s

This is why you hould escort your battleships with similar throw-away ships Actually, I have been doing that. I create a fleet of 2 huge cruisers along with about 14 tinys. I can handle losing the tiny's, they are cheap and I'm drowning in them. But the AI always seems to target one of the cruisers. After a couple battles, I still have all

I thought I read something somewhere about the combined stats, but I probably just misunderstood. But understanding this will certainly help out with strategy. My current game, I have some middling production planets that could crank out cheap fighters. Armed with cheaper weapons the AI doesn't defend against would make them effective, especially in massive numbers. Obviously then adding shields to them would do no good, they would 1-shot even with the best defense.

12 Replies 54,396 Views

I haven't been able to find this, and was wondering if anyone knows. In fleets, supposedly the combined stats are used, but a battle played out shows each ship in a fleet attack separately and get attacked separately. So are combined stats used each turn? Or individual ship stats? For example, suppose 1 ship with 100 att and 50 def against a fleet of 10 ships each with 10 att and 5 def, for an even match. Assume same weapon/defense of each. Turn 1, single ship uses 100 atta

The speed of tiny ships is their only downfall. I don't use them much myself, but have seen advantages. In a battle where I had one huge ship with 6 Doomrays against an AI fleet of 15 tinys, my ship took one shot, killed a ship, then his took 15 shots at my 1. Next turn same thing, my 1 shot, kill a ship, his 14 shots, and so on. While I had him outclassed in weapons and defense, I could see where this could be affective. A tiny ship will hold 1 doomray, 1 ultimate defense, 2 mkIII

Exactly what I think, if it wasn't for the environmentalists, we could be running on nuclear power instead of fossil fuels. Many of our power plants run on natural gas and coal. Coal is certainly not in short supply, but it produces the most air pollution by far. Using nuclear energy only trades one type of pollution by-product for another.<br/

A much bigger issue is the AI's lack of interest in senors! The AI will not research sensors, not even the inexpensive first one which gives all ships a +1 boost to their sensor range! And yet they still seem to know if you have an undefended economy starbase at the far end of your territory.
