No doubt that an array of 16 military SB's is micromanagement. At 28 constructors per 16 SB's that's 448 constructors. This is certainly not everyone's cup of tea. And the Understatement-of-the-year-Award goes to....Mumblefratz! I once managed to get 11 fully loaded econ bases around my research capitol. By that time, I no longer needed to do

And another lesson that helped me be a lot better, make sure you are trading techs with the AI(unless you turn it off). They are definitely trading with each other, that's why they are so advanced so fast. Buy a tech from one, and then sell it to the others. They will trade for it eventually so they might as well buy from you. Things like weapons, logistics, and hull sizes they won't give up so easy, so spend your time researching those, and buy a lot of the others.
One of the great things about this game is there are so many different ways to accomplish your success. In Masochistic and higher, the colony rush is insane. I buy a lab first, put my sliders to 100% research, and get impulse drive?(I never remember, the first drive tech that gives you 2). My taxes are set for 100% morale, so I am losing money. I too pray for money on the anomolies. Once I researched a better drive, slap a pair of them on a colony ship(more if you are Yor) and start
I haven't worked my way up to suicidal yet, am trying my first obscene. And doing it on gigantic as well, but not abundant. Too much micro management. But I am sure I will attempt one again sooner or later. Your one-on-one gigantic seems intriguing though. Was it a bit dull in the beginning? Playing with tech trading off really changes the game, doesn't it? Did you make sure to pick some research bonuses at the start? The AI really likes to start researching weapons at first, and
One or two basic support and all the engines I can cram on it. This is my strategy as well. Towards the end they can hold 8 hyperwarp III's I think. I will also build core constructors if I am building econ bases near the planet.
In any "normal" fleet it would be the smaller ships that would be first targeted because they would have less hit points and no defense while still having a reasonable attack value. This is usually the way it works for my battles, too. I once tried to create a huge hull that would take fire and let my high offense smalls keep firing, but it was
I'm going to have to go with the Terrans here. I think both sides are going to lose at least one ship every round, and the Iconians have a slim chance of mopping more than 2 in some rounds.
It will get more attention as an idea and less as something you did while drunk. Uh oh. I usually only come to the forums after I get too drunk to play the game anymore. Guess I had better change my tactics. Nice use of the transitive property, wof. Ignorance truly does equal weakness.
thing's aren't always as they seem. This is true. I am actually a below-average intelligence chimpanzee with superior typing skills and access to the internet. MY experiment has already been completed, so there are no worries about blowing my cover.
That's a good question. Would like to know the answer to that before I start arming my freighters. Never thought of putting a trade module on a battleship, I didn't realize that would transfer over to the mini-freighter. What happens if you put a trade module on a powerful ship, and then tried to create a trade route with a defended planet? Would your "freighter" destroy everything in orbit and then attempt to trade goods?
It's Tuesday morning and I have not had my coffee yet. There is a bingo card on my desk and I am not sure why.
I usually follow mumbles advice and spend the extra on improvements. I always seem to have something to build. Of course, by the time I get that far, I usually don't have to worry about bc too much. I have noticed one game where I spent down below 20000 every turn, and then my end game said my average income was some negative number(I was making about 50k a turn near the end). I thought the two may be related, but I am not sure. I never looked through the forums for that. Anyone el
As to the original post, I have seen a post somewhere in these forums showing this as a bug. He posted his debug.err, and you could see a couple ctrl-n's were done. The first 3 or 4 times the AIs had intellence(heh) of 100. The last time they were 15. An obvious bug, since he couldn't have changed the settings after starting. Just thought I would point this out as a possibility that it wasn't your error, brycej.
He knew full well what he was doing when he made the original post. It looks that way to me, too. I don't engage in bashing others much, but the original post seems too well designed to be anything but trolling. He knew someone would come back to bust his chops.
Well, I did install IE 7. It does include tabbed browsing, but the speed increase over IE 6 is very significant. I have never tried Firefox, though many recommend it. I don't know, maybe I am just lazy. As for seven's comment on security, that isn't exactly true, but not untrue either. If you are a diligent user that constantly checks and installs upgrades, than Firefox is plenty secure. Some older versions of Firefox rank near the top of the most unsecure programs. On the
I'm really looking forward to BioShock, by the guys who made System Shock 2. Wow, this is great news. I don't keep up with new game releases, but I will definitely take a look at this. SS2 has to be one of my all time favorites. Unfortunately I lent it to someone a few years back, and it was never returned.
If you take a good look at the M-O-R-A-L-E thread I thought this thread looked familiar. I was beginning to believe I had smoked too much pot(if there is such a thing) in my younger days. As to the original post:(or ; or ,, I don't know) Yes, 2 consecutive negative posts tend to breed and multiply quickly. It seems to me that pointing
Acchh! It would appear the necromancers have plied their trade upon this thread more than once. However, as it is entertaining, I will do my part to keep it alive.
I haven't noticed many crashes on this site. Maybe I'm lucky. On a side note, MS has released IE 7. I'm sure it's initial release is completely bug-free.
You can't go wrong following mumblefratz' advice. I know I've improved my game by reading some of his forum replies. Remember though, that it does depend on the type of game you play. Mumble typically plays gigantic/abundant all games, which require different strategies than say a medium/normal type game. And one of the beauties of this game is that there are so many different ways to play and still conquer. Some are easier than others, but a good challaenge can be more fun. Prol
Question, perhaps I am missing something ES. What is the stretegic advantage to having 5 defenseless defenders around your planets? I don't usually use defenders of any sort, only when I think there is an off-chance that the AI could actually get a transport to my planets(AI still lacking a bit there IMO). I can see that work if the AI only sends out unarmed transports, but even a 1HP, armed transport could eventually take out a fleet of "empty" ships. The 5 rounds it would take to get them
Hey, wait a minute, I said that! My bad, Sidemancer. I can't seem to edit it, either.
This topic was discussed in the forums many times before. If you search around you should be able to find some more information/misinformation. I was a big fan of understanding the numbers in a game as well, but I gave up trying to get the exacts of "the sliders." Now I play them more on feel, though it may take you a few games to get to that. Once you start trying to take into account that a planet NOT building an improvement shunts extra production to ship building(and vi
I think the answer to your first question is the same as to how the game decides what to attack in stacked ships/fleets. It sounds like, since you added attack to your base, it had higher attack stats than your fleet. The game always seems to make you or the AI attack the most powerful fleet/ship/starbase in a stack. If your starbase was more powerful than your fleet, than it becomes the first target. I'm willing to bet that if you had no weapons on your base, the fleet would be attacked fir
I like the original posters idea, too. Everything except the part about recalling them to your fleet. I think once you live as a pirate, you die as a pirate. Balancing them would of course be the hard part. Like shadowmaster said, it should be valuable to a small race, and useless to a powerful one. A weak race would have to decide whether the increase in bc is worth the risk of angering another race. Once you are more powerful than the other races, it would have to be made so nobo
