Yea, I got a kick out of that first time I saw it. Now I try to avoid seeing it. If you spread out your transports along the edge of your borders, they don't seem to notice. If you concentrate them in one area, they do notice.

To run on Mac OS X and Linux, Stardock would have to port GC2 to an OpenGL API which has nothing in common with DirectX. Bottom line, if they aren't able to add MP to the game for free, I highly doubt they would do an OpenGL port for free. Sure, they would get a few sales here and there for those that want it (same can be said for MP), but the additional revenue would not justify the development cost. I do have a Linux box I use quite a bit myself, but my gaming machine is Windows. Though, a
Influence is still a bit of a mystery to me. Well, if you plop a fully upgraded influence SB in the adjacent sub-sector of an alien planet, it will usually flip within a few turns. When I say "upgraded" I mean the 11 upgrades that increase it's effectiveness, not the military ones for defense. You can install military modules if you want, but there'
Influence wins are more difficult the larger you go. I don't think I would ever go for an influence win on a Gigantic map. It would just take too long. You'd get into wars regardless and end up close to a military conquest before winning on influence alone. Might as well just disable all the other win types and go for the conquest. BTW, gigantic maps a are *great* for military conquest which is the most interesting and enjoyable way to win anyway. However, military conquest is *very* invo
Easy solution, put a - in front of the name like "-constructor". You can use the name you want and it puts it at the top of all the lists.
Happens all the time for me. In my current game, I killed tons of soldiers invading a PQ16 planet with traditional warfare and it had only 10 tiles!!! Not too happy about that one. I've heard tell of a bug with the orbital terrformer that causes this. I haven't tried playing a game without building it so I don't know for sure. It's a nasty bug and should be on the "critical" list. The advertised PQ of a planet is critical when determining what type of invasion tactic to use. It's also dis
No, they show up again. Can't delete core ships. Wish you could. Personally, I don't there should be any core ships. They're useless and only serve to confuse things. Also wish the game would not try to "remember" ship designs from one game to the next. Causes all kinds of problems when upgrading a current design. I've done upgrades and had the ship revert to some version in an older game. Any why would you *not* use the same name for an upgraded design like the game tells you too. What
Didn't say what kind of processor you're running, but there's a sticky thread on AMD dual core CPU's here . I like to keep peace with the other races until the end of the game when I'm ready to conquer the board. There are some tricks to keeping other races from attacking too early. Keep an eye on your relations through the diplomatic screen. Check relations every few turns. Relations will move to hostile befo

Sorry about the double post, forum problems, won't let me remove it

Game resolution needs to be less than desktop for window mode to work. For example, game resolution 1024x768, desktop 1280x1024.
I like to set 2 then zoom all the way out with minus. Like the strategic view better when it's not directly overhead.
Yea, love those huge hulls, but the bee swarm approach sounds very interesting. I'll have to try that some time. Thanks for mentioning it.
One thing I do that makes things convenient is to name ships starting with a - like -freighter or -fighter, etc. That way they always appear at the top in the various lists. I also prioritize them with other non-alpha characters like * and ! I do the same thing with fleets. The game does sort non-alpha characters and names that start with them always appear at the top of lists. Makes things easier for me at least.
Oh, I see your problem, it's an eMachines....just kidding. Your video drivers are here in the downloads section. Your sound drivers are there too.
You make a good point about non-scientific people misinterpreting scientific results. I think global warming makes a good case for that. Unfortunately, it seems to be gaining ground as a political issue more than a scientific one. That's not a good thing. Global warming (and cooling) are a natural cycle for our planet which is something people don't understand. Science is merely trying to evaluate how the increase in carbon dioxide levels (due to our industy) will impact our current warming
Well, that's a bad sign that your drivers won't unpack. Assuming you get the driver situation resolved and you're still having problems, go into your Catalyst control panel and check all your settings. Try all the 3D parameters set to application controlled and then try them set by the Catalyst sub-system. Make sure the AA setting in the game agrees with the AA setting in the Catalyst control panel. Try it with AA disabled both in the game and in the Catalyst control panel. Don't
I ignore the food tile bonuses. I put something other than a farm on them. It's not worth the tiles it takes to keep approval up. Of course, if you run taxes low enough, you can run up your populations without any morale buildings at all. I haven't experimented with it. I've been going for 15B populations at 80% taxes using morale builders. You could try higher populations with lower taxes and probably get positive results. Either way, I'm sure it's a subject for debate. In the end, it m
So, are there games not lacking in these areas? It's easy to say I want, I want, but without a practical comparison, it's just asking for the moon. Personally, I don't see the game particularly lacking in these areas. But then again, GC2 is the first 4x game I've played. Sure, there's always room for improvement, but I want a a 32" flat panel TV for $500 and a car that gets 100 MPG. I want those things, but it's just not realistic to expect to see them right now. Probably in the future. T
Welcome to the forum. Yea MP is a pretty tired subject around here. But, those that want it seem to really want it where those that don't really care, well, don't really care. The polls only indicate where people would *rather* see Stardock put their resources, not really whether people are "for" or "against" it. Most people would rather get improvements in game content. I'm in that majority myself. Stardock is not necessarily anti-MP so we may see it in a future release or expansion pack.
Yea, just military power. Doesn't mean a whole lot.
Yea, upgrading starbases is a real drag. So, I quit doing it. The only ones I fully develop are the ones on galactic resources. Other than that, I don't build any starbases except for influence ones to flip planets. I only upgrade them as much as I need and once a planet flips, I delete them. Every now and than I might build an influence starbase to extend range, but then I don't do any upgrades on those. It would be nice if building and upgrading starbases was not labor prohib
Speaking of string theory, I believe M-theory is the latest adaptation of that concept. It adds a another dimension to the strings to make them 2 dimensional like planes. The assumption leads to an infinite number of parallel universes and provides an explanation for the singularity of the big bang. Pretty wild stuff, but does resolve the "grandfather paradox" of time travel. Travel back in time and you jump into a different universe that follows a different course. Might also create a big
