Noticed that as well, but I figured I'd give them some time to work it out before saying anything. But yea, would like to see those little text tips. An option would be to just place permanent text below the medals.

Well, it's really up to the designers how much they are going to hammer the players with penalties. I don't believe in that sort of thing because *I'm the player* and I should get goodies or nothing, not get screwed, that's not fun. Problem with leaving the council is those trade routes get you over that hump early in the game when building costs more than you're making. The same is true for the auto-survey cash. However, once the game is a few years old, trade routes and anomolies
Most of the time when the council meets, you get questions that offer little perks when you win and it's fun. However, I encountered a nasty one that ruined my game. It was a new game I had invested a couple hours into. The vote is for restricting survey. I lost the vote and on the next turn, all of my ships that were happily auto-surveying anomolies reported they could not find any more. I had only explored about a tenth of the universe so there were still lots of them. It wasn'
Same problem, fan spins up full blast. CPU on 100%. Would be nice if the game knew how to idle. Although, I've never seen a 3D game that doesn't tap the CPU full time. Don't really know the mechanics of it all, but I think going into 3D mode taps the CPU regardless of what else is going on.
Yea, I would like to have an ability to increase the rate at which ships move as well. I find myself waiting a lot.
Mine was stickered on the CD case. If you contact Stardock, I'd be surprised if they don't resolve it quickly for you.
Ok, sorry, didn't understand the question. Probly shouldn't reply when I'm not sure.
Ok, been browsing the new forum and performance is much-much better. Although less frequent, I'm still getting browser crashes. Running W2K SP4 and IE6 SP1. As far as browser plug-ins, I'm running Pop-This and SpyBot. I have Acrobat Reader set NOT to use the web browser interface. I have the GC2 web site in trusted mode. Pop-up control is disabled for galciv2.com. I've installed the latest version of Sun Java and have cleared all Temp Internet Files. It seems to happen only on certain thr
On a side note, this is the one game where I have an interest in bug resolution. It's the only game I've ever owned that I had any desire to play more than two or three times. I have a feeling I'll be playing this game for quite a while. What value!
It would be good if the game showed the difficulty level it's currently running in the civilization manager. Also if it showed the intelligence of the races. I had a problem toward the end of my last game where it became unstable. I owned around 150 planets and several hundred ships in a gigantic universe. I was down to killing what little was left of the last race. When I went to do a quicksave, the game hung. I had to kill the game from Task Manager and the quicksave file was g
I assume you mean the medals at the bottom of posts? You get those when you play Metaverse games. When you mouse-over them they give little text tips as to what they are (they did before, don't think that's working with the new forum). Just set up a Metaverse character using the "My Account" link at the top of this page. When you start a new game, click on the Metaverse button. 4 medals appear right away after you submit your first game.
That's one thing about copy protection that really screws the end user. Even if you are sure you want to buy a game, the copy protection may cause the game to be un-runable on your system. That happended to me with two games I paid good money for. They simply would not authorize on my system. I had no recourse at all. Now I always check what kind of copy protection a game uses before I buy it.
Nice! You guys are all over it. Good job.
CraigHB Do you think that a score of 5000 pts, after spending a week and a half playing the one game, for a suicidal military victory on a huge map is fair? No, that's not fair either. Most simple solution, disallow beta versions in the Metaverse.
Hehe, yea I am actually. I downloaded a png image of her and replaced the custom race png so the game uses her portrait too I figure, all the other races will hate me right off as soon as they see who my leader is, hehe.
You know what, it doesn't matter what other publishers do because once you start playing GC2, all your other games will just collect dust.
Can someone please kill this thread now
I agree, people playing beta versions should not have their scores allowed in the Metaverse. They should be testing, not competing. Also, what if there's a bug in a beta version that results in abnormally high scores? That wouldn't be fair. The Metaverse should require the current game version and disallow beta versions or old versions.
Theories become laws when they have proven correct for every instance. Facts don't change nor can they ever be false. A theory can never be a fact because it can change or be disproved. The "laws" of physics all started as theories so when does theory become law? You state when it has been proven correct in every instance. What if that is just
Yes, that's a detail most people are unaware of. For the sake of conversation, people just say centrifugal force since it's more of a laymans term, but yea, there is a difference. When you say centripetal force, most people don't know what you're talking about.
Bigger maps result in longer more involved games, not necessarily harder. Also, selecting the number of habitable planets has a significant effect. I've started games on gigantic maps with too many habitable planets that quickly become very difficult to manage. My favorite configuration right now is to use loose clusters, abundant number of planets, abundant habitable planets, and uncommon or rare stars. This is with a gigantic universe. Gives me around 100-150 inhabitable planets in the un
I don't even use the combat viewer. I have it disabled. I find the way combat displays in the normal view is fine for me. Sometimes, I'll attack something in strategic view which shows no combat at all. I expect a certain amount of symbolism and I accept it. In the old BBS days, I used to play a turn based BBS game that was 100% symbolic (all text) and I enjoyed it. It has to be that way in a turn based game. There are other games (like FPS) that use no symbolism, but they're si
That's still pretty good. The most replayable game I had before GC2 lasted about 3 plays before I got rid of it. I've played about 15 games on GC2 and I'm still going strong. Should get at least that much again before I'm done with it. Maybe more. Maybe never.
Yea, wouldn't normally have had an interest in this type of game [GC2], but Stardock's policy on copy protection got my interest. Bought the game and found it's the most interesting game I've ever played. I finish one game and can't wait to start the next. - Craig
I've been playing loooong games. Crippling level gigantic universe. I lay low building and building using diplomacy to keep others off my back. I use cultural conquest to flip planets. When I finish the tech tree and I have 50 or 60 plants running full tilt with as many factories as they can hold, I quickly build an utterly massive and extremely powerful armada all with huge hulls running in max fleets. Once my armada is built and placed, I clear the map in about 10 turns. They can't touch
