Not sure, but I think the cheat flag uses modification date. Something is changing (has changed) the date stamp on one or more of the game files. Completely removing the game and installing it will fix that problem.

Problem with anti-virus software is the cure is worse than the disease.

I've gotten bad discs before. Sometimes just making a copy and using that solves the problem.

I think a teenager can play this game as well as any adult. However, I'd be impressed to see someone with a single digit age beat the game on a high difficulty.

Not really a hardcore gamer, but I've played my share. There's a few that stand out for me; Doom series Quake series Far Cry (probably my favorite FPS of all time, amazing game) The last Duke Nukem (hail to the king baby!) Of all the games I've played, I think GC2 has held my interest longest, except for an old BBS game called Trade Wars which I think GC2 will surpass pretty soon.

Running GC2 on a couple machines no problem. When you reinstall or install new, just do the activation again, no problem, just don't restore sig.bin. I don't believe Stardock has any limitation on how many installations of the game you can run which is nice.

Pink is a good idea. Maybe I'll try that one if I throw the Terrans in the mix. Thanks for the suggestion.

Seems simple to me, one main slider for total spending and 3 to distribute it. Would like 100% spending to be 100% though. Toward the end of a game, I often have too much cash left over. You can just use that cash to buy ships instead of wait for production, but that's too tedious so I don't do it. Would be nice if the total spending slider was aware of how much money you're making.

Influence from other races causes rebellion, not low morale. Morale effects reproductive rates and can cause you to lose elections if it's too low accross the board. To keep a planet from getting conqured culturally when threatened, build a maxed out influence starbase next to it. You can also build cultural boosters on it that increase its influence points. The little number next to the planet's IP indicates the ratio of external influence. It needs to be less than 4.00

Yea, that confused me when I first saw it. Miniturization doesn't make things smaller, it makes the hulls bigger. It also makes things use more size points. It's wierd, but that's the way they did it.

You only need to activate once per installation and only for patches. I'm playing GC2 on my laptop which is normally not connected to the internet. I also play it on my desktop system. Wouldn't be able to do that with most games.

I only have a problem with the gray/white races since planets and other items show on the mini-map as white. I don't play the Iconians and Korx mostly because I can't distinquish them. I also don't play the Humans becuase I use their color as Custom Race. I use a somewhat light blue (0,64,255) which makes it easy to distinquish. The only other blue-ish race is the Altarians, but they're cyan so there's a lot of contrast. I don't have a problem with the Drath versus Drengin because the Drath

I think that's one of the ways the AI trys to beat you is by out-colonizing and they do a good job of it. Trick is to get your economy going earlier by using a heavy population and economy bonus. The AI will beat you in the beginning, but you can out-pace them further along in the game by flipping planets and running higher populations than they do. They tend to run only 5B on most of their planets.

BTW, if typing in a string of numbers is a problem, the GC2 serial number can be copied and pasted into the game's activation dialog. Even so, I think you only need to do it once per game installation. So, the complaint about entering a serial number is a somewhat invalid one. As far as personal information for the online account, I didn't give them much when I registered, at least nothing to be concerned about.

Well, if the guy would rather a game install hostile DRM drivers into his operating system and require a CD or DVD in the drive, that's his perrogative I guess. However, even those games require entry of a serial number to activate the product. And then you're tied to having a CD in the drive every time you want to play. I really don't see where the activation process for GC2 is a problem, especially compared to what other game publishers are doing.

Same problem here. Game locks on save. No errors. Version 1.2. Only happens toward end of game, gigantic universe, loss of game save file. Seems to happen only on quicksave (Ctrl-S). I always clear out all my ship files before every game.

Beginner tips; Play your first couple games on one of the smaller universe sizes at a low difficulty setting. Set your flagship to auto-survey first thing. Build your own ships. Jockey your your tax rates in Domestic Stats right from the start. Lower taxes increase reproduction rate (higher approval), higher taxes increase income (lower approval). Run spending at 100% as soon as you can you can afford it. Approval builders allow you to run higher tax rates.

BTW, here are the home planets for the races; Thalan, Thala: PQ 15 Iconian, New Iconia: PQ 14 Altarian, Altaria: PQ 12 Terran, Earth: PQ 10 Drengi, Drengi: PQ 10 Arcean, Arcea: PQ 10 Yor, Iconia: PQ 10 Drath, Dratha: PQ 10 Custom, Custom: PQ 10 Torian, Torus: PQ 9

Yea, same here. Drath never do much, but they're a good one to play because of all the free bonuses. Homeworld size is an important factor too.

Reply to 1.3 ? Hotseat in Game Talk

There are instructions on how to play a two player hotseat game in the sticky thread entitled "Did you know you could do this". Should work in 1.3 as well, wouldn't think they would disable it.
