re starbases. AIs build starbases seemingly in the middle of nowhere to extend their range. wouldn't econ starbases work just as well? because using influence bases would only get the races into trouble.

yea, they don't usually become very strong. Although they did get really strong in once game and in some games they have a respectable but not particularily strong military. Thats if they manage not to get wiped out early on.

+ All AI will tend to mobilize for war now BEFORE going to war (i.e. start to send ships near the border rather than declare war and have months of phoney war. We have ideas on making it even better in the future.). yep, one of those human player tactics. heck, I often have a period of mobilization and border strengthening before I go to war. S

kblore... you missed my point. WHo is s1genocide... that frogboy makes a unique post addressing his concerns?? do you get it? how is he different then any of us.... we paid same as him, but only negative posts get addressed??? I am confused here. I was the guy (and part of the mod team) who took the time to fix Master of Orion 3 in alls its "horrible" glory. (i

And, Frogboy, in my last 2 games I have not seen the type of tile usage I was complaining about. Maybe it was just a fluke. I think I found the cause over the weekend to the dumb AI fluke. I'm pretty sure the final 1.3 solves that (and the crashing problem, we spent yesterday tracking that down as well). I also hope that the AI starts usi

1) parts on legacy designs that are only there visually (no effect on ship stats) and cannot be deleted (e.g. a Singularity Driver). are you talking about the core designs? you shouldn't be using those, make your own ships since the core ones suck.

I'm also especially enjoyed that you guys are implementing my suggestion about making recordings (really brief ones) of battles and stuff. I know that there would be issues with coding it even though the game already records battles at the end of each one and records each one for the scores at the end of the game, so I'd understand if you end up with a watered down or otherwise modified version of the idea <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Smile.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absmiddle"

Frogboy, that guy seems to mainly want multiplayer and tactical battles since he lists those two every time. I would definetly like a more interactive diplomacy and the Civ3 and Civ4 diplomacy us a good reference point, but I know it would be somewhat simpler in GC2: DA since we don't have tradeable resources in the way that the Civ series has. However, the part about having more options and flexibility in diplomacy such as a declare war option (on the race you are talking to), a way of

1. sounds cool, but probably overly complicated because you can see (with espionage) what other races have on thier planets, and with 9 races, thats alot of different names. 2. There are alot of ways to mod things, however I haven't made mods for GC2 before so I don't know. 3. I've heard of people making modded tech trees, so maybe.

The Thalans, Drath, and Iconians are derivatives of the Terran Alliance AI. That's interesting. Why would it be that the first three (Terrans, Thalans, and Drath) always stop expanding after they have colonized a few systems, but the Iconians often become a decent-sized power and sometimes really kick butt? I wish the first three would not behave the way

although you will see a larger set of names with a larger map, I'd still like to see perhaps real star names replacing most of those currently in the game. Just for fun of course

there is no multiplayer in GC2... this multiplayer thing is a dead horse that has been beaten for a while,

well they do build it sometimes, but it's usually either too late, not enough planets with them, or the ships just aren't powerful enough to stop my fleets. Although a good fleet on a planet with that building can give my attacking fleet some bad wounds.

The AI always chooses the same alignment each time, I think its actually coded that way into the AI behavior. I don't know if it's moddable though. Although that random event that makes a race flip alignments can happen. Haven't seen that event occur to a neutral aligned race, yet.

I've also had a strange CTD with the beta when I decommission an invention matrix on a freshly conqered planet. I'm not sure whether its that I'm doing it too fast or like what. and it's happened twice in the same game I'm playing, both were freshly conquered and both times I tried to decommission an invention matrix. Also, I sent the first one as a bug report with a smart exception log, and I looked in the debug.err and didn't see anything that could be linked to it.

absolutely agree with the closing argument, the AI is simply too defensive. It masses too many powerful ships around its planets, and the one improvement that would justify this strategy (the Orbital Fleet Manager) is rarely built by the AI. you're wrong about the orbital fleet manager (if that is the one which allows ships in orbit to act as a

although in DA, there will be the Drengin and the Korath, which are an offshoot of the drengin, amd the regular drengin are fighting this new faction called the Korath (who are drengin offshoots). So there will be a civil war of sorts in the expansion. As for the random events like the I-League and the Fundamentalists, I've never seen them take more than a few planets and most of the time only one, and they are never particularily strong. For the civil war idea, I would imagine

colonies lower than PQ 3 I always abandon (PQ 1 and 2 are useless), sometimes when I'm neutral, a PQ 4 or 5 might get a boost when I flip them or invade them from a non neutral race. Unless the planet gets a PQ boost from a random event or through the neutral alignment PQ bonus when I invade or culturally flip it, or the planet has some really good bonus on it, I generally destroy it because those will pull down your approval and overall morale too much.
