I have only one into that error once, never again... try going out to download.com and downloading a program called freeRAM XP Pro - it is a ram monitoring program that can be programmed to auto-free your ram every x number of minutes. i've got mine set to free the ram every 30 minutes, it causes a momentary (5-10 second) lag in the system when it does so, but it makes sure that your ram is as free as possible

uh... not if this is beta like this section of the boards are for, i'm willing to bet it will be fixed before the game goes gold

I think if we want the person responsible for making insectoid races popular as far as aliens are concerned, H.G. wells is a good starting place, but you also might take a look at Robert A. Heinlein and his Starship Troopers book (note, NOT the movie movie, the BOOK) which was subsequently completely ripped off for the use of starcraft by blizzard, and the rest is history

I seemed to get skewed results like this too, especially when my ships had multiple defenses (starbase bonus) - the pirates totally wiped me out (and everyone else too) until i advanced my tech well beyond theres (and found 4, count 'em 4 lucky rangers)

Voting at the UP’s: a civ’s number of votes should not only be related to influence. If I’m the least influential member of the United Nations but my military is 3 times larger than anyone else’s on the planet, think anyone would NOT strongly consider my opinion in the real world? Why not in this game? # of votes should reflect overall civilization strength, not only cultu

the one encounter i had with pirates was devestating... for about half a year, i just didn't have any military, and then the pirates showed up and creamed most everything i had... mostly transports, fortunately i got the galactic privateer super structure. but because of the pirates i actually built up my military, and i didn't even have to work that much at it, they were not near as powerful as what you describe. is their power random as well? or relative to the over all galactic military stren

your email might contain a cd/activation key, if you download SD Central and then register DA you can then download the beta (assuming you have that option on SD central enabled)

the AI doesn't lie about those things? hmm... couldn't the warnings/comments for the human players be coded NOT to appear until certain criteria have been met, that way its not so much an issue about lying, then it simply becomes does the human player want to warn his fellow allies... or not warn them and watch them fall to the unexpected sneak attack then pick up the pieces?

i agree, as it is i usually take the evil choices when they benefit me, and the good choices when they benefit me the other portion of the time, then i choose nuetral alignment, which i already am... the choices need to have a greater impact on the game, IMO, i like the idea of the possibility of mini events specific too moral decisions that have a certain percentage chance of happening, keep you on your toes leastways

yano, so far i have not been able to outspy the computer... they usually neutralize my spies in one turn, so have a one turn delay would really make me question the use of spies until i have obscene amounts of cash income just my 2 creds on the matter

i think tech level is kinda ainfluential (it all depends on how you use it) if your tech leads to trade goods, then it should be influential via the trade good, however if your high tech leads to advanced weapons that make your neighbors twitchy it should be negatively influential via the weapons if that makes any sense (i'm taking your anaology of japan, who is influential because of all their trade in technology... but if that tech were say, nuclear war heads, we would have an entirel

one thing regarding IE 7 and FF2.0 i have both installed and doing a comparitive run, like FF much better (still, i've been using it since 0.9x) one significant thing i discovered was that IE7 with ONE tab open takes up nearly twice the memory that a FF windows with FOUR tabs open... now its not like i'm hurting for memory while i'm browsing, i've got a gig, but honestly, i don't think i want to give 77mg of memory to one freakin program that is definitely not a game

feud: rofl... that has got to be the most torqued off customer i have ever seen... and i too prefer nintendo's marketing scheme, the demonic baby, not cool, sony cuasing my rubiks cube to explode, also not cool, i do not WANT a multi-colored room... I want a Wii

officially Vista has been released gold to companies (like Nvidia) and the corporate edition is being shipped, but retail computers like Dell and Gateway will not have it until January, buy your PC now if you plan on getting a new one! (i'd give vista about 6 months before i even think about updating to it)

hard drives usually 'click' in my experience, not screech... though if somehow the disks became off-axis that would explain a lot... even just a little bit...

try the demo, you have 3 years of game time, plenty to run into any planet development issues - and while morale is still a butt sometimes, i have never had to murder citizens to fix it in GCII (i did have to quick build and entertainment center, but eh, thats acceptable methinks)

well its playable, but the AI on galciv is 100x more advanced than anything doom has to offer, so it takes more cpu, especially because ai is working more than just one 'faction' and tracking a whole lot of units per group. in short, you can play it, but its hecka slow because the ai is so intelligent (and yeah, the RAM thing is bad on ginormous maps, lots of page-file usage on your system, hurts performance a lot)
