Okay this is obnoxious. I am playing a gigantic game and writing an AAR using it (Quest For Unity) and I am trying to build and economic/influence based civilization. However I am butt-far from any other civ, so I had to customize my freighter for long range, it has a range of 14.8 sct. However, when I try to send it more than 7 and a half sectors out, I get the "We can't go there!" error. Am I misunderstanding something here? shouldn't I be able to go near 15 full sectors away from my home plan

One month after we began the research our scientists happily announced the perfection of universal translators. These amazing devices allow us to understand any written or spoken language. We have now begun to explore advanced computing techniques. We hope this will allow us to research theoretical technologies much faster. --Ty Lucas, February 1st, 2226 The techniques of evolved computing have now been perfected. While it did not yield the improved research time we had hoped f

A New World. Our journey into the stars reached its first milestone this week, Lonaria II has been successfully colonized and rush production of a Xeno Lab has been finished. While costly this gives the planet a vital beginning jumpstart. My advisor of the interior has informed me that while the planet is not immediately of a great class, it has much potential through research of improved terraforming techniques. I have inquired to my scientific advisor about beginning this li

Okay so this is my first attempt at an actual story based AAR. So it might suck, I don't know. I wouldn't mind Multi-player, I understand why the devs haven't done it yet though. Now about that second expansion... Brad mentioned something about a second expansion in his interview with Gameasutra, didn't he? yeah I just found it... What was the inspiration behind the recent graphical revamp? Was that in response to fan demand? For the most part, we wanted to future-proof the game. We know we won’t get to a Galactic Civil

Oh, silly me, I didn't realize you could have more than one trade route with another race's planet, I had never tried. And good point about taxation, I'll try that, see how much of an empire I can actually salvage.

drakonfire, are you changing your tax rates appropriately? You can get higher morale by doing that. If your econ is a problem with lower taxes, then did you build the the what...? and my taxes were only 39% I have lots of trade, and 2 economy stations giving bonuses to them, my economy is about as low as I am comfortable with it being. That 16 billion cap is kind of annoying...

Its not completely lost. I've nearly finagled the Altarians into an alliance with me, and as they own half the galaxy, I think I'll be okay. really, I wasn't that bad off with 3 planets, 2, yes, not a good situation, but not bad either. I'm playing on a small galaxy with uncommon planets and uncommon habitable planets. So, the Aforementioned Altarians still only have about 10 planets to themselves (after Torians surrendered to them and they ATE the drengin for dinner). anywhat, whatever

Okay, so I have played my share of games (though I haven't played many through to endgame, I don't know why) but I recently reformatted my hard drive, so I began a brand new, all default settings (sans intelligence, which I bumped up to "bright) as Terrans. The game isn't going so well for me, as I have only Earth and Mars (I had a 3rd planet but it got overwhelmed by the combined might of the Yor and Drengin) this wouldn't be such an issue, but I have to devote 2 whole tiles to morale on earth,

Wow... my writing efforts appear paltry in comparison to yours... excellent. I love the style of your writing, it is very similar to mine (probably why I was never lost while reading it, I actually paid attention to the chronology ). And as I am re-reading Starship Trooper's for the nth time, I can see the similarities, but while they are similar, don't let that degrade your work in your own mind, it is a

really some great laugh out loud moments in that blog so what I want to know from the devs -- is his final analysis of the Drengin's behavior even remotely accurate or were they incompetent because he played on a low difficulty level?

just to throw my 2 cents in there, that ibuypower website is amazing, just surfed around and built a quadcore system with an NVidia GS8800 and a number of bells and whistles (including vista premium and office 2007) for 2500 -- 3 year warranty and lifetime tech support included -- dell would charge about 4 grand for an equivalent system -- oh and if you happen to have an OS disk they will sell the HD to you unformatted with that said, one of my friends just custom built his computer, an

Reply to Steam? in Off-Topic

steam forces the updates down your throat in order to help with their online anti-cheating software (VAC) -- at least for online games -- me, I only play Counterstrike and other half-life games on it, and its never bugged me about anything other than slowing my PC down on startup when it loads, but what auto-loading program doesn't?

i'm no debug expert but that doesn't look like a DA issue, and that dialog of that error message seems to me to be a windows muck up... yay M$

actually i had the crazy idea of making a weapon animation of vipers launching from the ship and firing on tagets then landing, all as one single gun weapon. this gets a thumbs up from me, that would be crazy cool to see! you could even make three different renders of the ani, one with them shooting bullets for mass drivers, then one with lasers, and a third for missiles... could be the exact same ani with just different weapons shooting from the vipers.

it should probably also be noted to any newbies that the defensive capabilities of ships is supremely over powered at the moment, I don't know if this might impact a newbies first experiences, but I could definitely see it being a bit confusing if you didn't know how the defense was supposed to work as opposed to how it appears to work right now
