I don't know if anyone else has brought this up yet, but it happens a lot - When I conquer another civ's planet I often get their Manufacturing or Technological or Economic capital with it, when I already have these on my colonized planets. The new duplicate versions can't be demolished! So it's a waste of a planetary tile essentially. I don't know if this is a bug or intentional, but it'd be nice to be able to demolish them.

I don't think there is any "must have" bonus picks - it all depends on the strategy being used by the individual player. You can win with any of them if you play it right. Some choices might be easier or more effective than others, but again it all depends on the strategies you adopt and your style of play. Be assured, you may have found a good personal strategy for achieving victory, but that doesn't mean you have found the ONLY winning strategy <img src="http://images.stardock.com

Good! I hate the Torians. Probably because I tend to play EVIL alignment and they are usually one of my chief adversaries.

Minor races don't colonize but they do occasionally declare war on major races, for whatever reason. Of course, that major race must be pretty weak for it to get beat on by the Snathi or Akilians or whoever, but it happens. The minor race stealing technologies event is good, and depending on what you have to offer them and your diplomacy skill etcetera you can nab weapons techs and stuff more easily from them than from the major race sometimes. I've never traded a planet for it, but

I'm from Siberia! No, wait - I actually live in Minnesota - but it's hard to tell the difference around January. I live in the Twin Cities - Minneapolis & St. Paul. Well I live in St. Paul and work in Minneapolis

Just a quick note - In my last game the AI Altarians tried to trade a good alignment tech - Arnorian Battle Armor - to me when I was already declared Neutral alignment. The tech showed up in the text of their message requesting the trade but it wasn't included on the list of things being offered, so I didn't receive the actual technology when I accepted the trade. So it amounted to a request from them for a free tech I guess. Not a big deal, but I just thought I'd mention it

I'm no metaverse grand champion (I'm ranked like 143 or something, and my one man empire is around 42) but I manage to have fun and to win, and outside of getting a few tips from these forums I have learned everything through trial and error. I can consistently beat 9 AI opponents on painful setting (currently working on higher difficulty settings) and the economy is always one of my best areas. 1. Trade - always fill your trade routes and use economy starbases. If you conq

I agree, if you have a sufficiently high military rating, you can go for a tech victory without the AI attempting to stop you, or if they do make an attempt it is too little too late. It might depend on difficulty level, I don't know. I would like to see the AI become a little more aggressive, consistently, when a player reaches a certain point on the tech victory tree. Even if they can't destroy you outright militarily, it would make more sense for them to attack out of desperation

Lol, that is a truly frightening number of ships in that screen shot. I had a game on painful setting where the remaining AI's allied together and in the end I decided to just do a technology victory and wrap it up that way. They attacked me towards the end but it was too late to stop me. =-).

I read in a recent interview with someone named Brad from the GalCiv2 team that he didn't think GalCiv 3 would be coming out "this decade" because there is so much room for expansion in GalCiv 2 (the design being so flexible). So maybe you should be asking for all these neat features in an expansion pack instead hehe, but then again, who knows what the future will bring, perhaps they will decide to develop GalCiv3 a little earlier than they anticipate right now. =-).

Stardock asked me to reboot after I updated GalCiv2 to the version 1.31. The only other product I have through Stardock is the free graphic toolbar thing that scrolls icons like Mac OS. That wasn't updated as far as I could tell. I haven't had any system problems in relation to this, just an FYI about it since you say it isn't supposed to do that.

Here's an idea... If a planet has a large population and you don't want to lower the PQ, try this... Attack with mass drivers using an insufficient number of troops to fully get the job done - make sure you lose, but in doing so you reduce its population considerably. Then send in a second transport, utilizing less destructive methods like traditional warfare or mini-soldiers, with enough soldiers to succeed. The improvements and the PQ will then be intact.

I don't know if this is the case here, but in some cases it would not be advisable for the game developers to inform the public of what exactly causes the "cheater alarm" to sound because it will aid unscrupulous players in devising a means to get around the cheating safegaurds. Some things are better left unsaid! Loose lips sink ships! Lol =-)

When the pirates first appear, the message will mention what planet they are menacing. The pirates will not have formed a fleet initially, they will be stacked on top of each other as single ships. If you can destroy them that first turn, before they can join together, they are much easier to deal with.

If you want to do it militarily... Try launching waves of attacks on their high population world using MASS DRIVERS. Don't throw all your soldiers in on one attack (with a big capacity transport). Try going like 500 at a time with mass drivers, three times in a row, and see if the population dips to where an attack with a bit larger force will possibly succeed (using means other than mass drivers if you are concerned about planet quality). If I'm not mistaken, the planet's improvements and qu

I also noticed that alliances were more difficult to form with the advent of 1.3 and at first I was dismayed because I used to rely heavily on diplomacy techs in order to gain allies and then my allies would be willing to trade to me all of their weapons technology or other techs that I had neglected while pursuing the diplomatic line. Currently, it seems fairly easy to get other races to "friendly" but the jump from there to "close" is quite a bit harder. I'm fine with thi

Hey ya'll, Just a word about the Galactic Achievement "Galactic Guidebook" ... It sucks. By the time anyone can get around to building it, most if not all of the anomalies in the universe have been discovered and explored, and even if there are some left over it's not so many that your flagship can't pick them up anyways or in a scenario with abundant anomalies it's just as well to design a survey ship and build a couple of them as opposed to using up a lot of precious early game res

Confession: I originally downloaded a "pirated" version of GalCiv2 via bit torrent. Epiphany: I liked the game so damn much, and wanted to get the updates that would solve the semi-frequent crashing, that I purchased it through digital download. Revelation: I love the game, Im glad I paid for it, and the updates are a gift that keeps on giving. --- Liberesio aka Kilgore Trout of the Tralfamadorians (copywrite Kurt Vonnegut) PS: If the game had sucke
