I Am almost always using the 70% Growth bonus (I think it is the best:)) and moral(sp) bonus. First I lower taxes until I have 100% on the worlds I want to grow. (My homeworld + any gems I find) I buy a factory on my new worlds but thats it. I build moral buildings so I can raise taxes and keep growing. I turn my low class planets into research. Med into production. High into Prod Cap, Econ Cap and Tech Cap and Econ/trade planets. I use the money in the treasury and in Anoma

It has been there for a year. In my current game where ever the Krox capital as been as giving odd amounts of food and production I think. The last planet I captured had the capital on it. From now on I will try to capture the best planet last. That way it has the capital.

The only time I use tiny hulls is when I want a really cheap transport and I have a lot of minis. I also tend to use missiles if I think I will go for larger ships and lasers for small. I also use tinys and smalls to try and fit the 'right amount' of stuff on. If 1 missile fits on a tiny and 1 and a half on a small then I will build both. Tinys for defence and smalls for offence. It doesn't bother me but I think that you 'underestemate the power of stupid peaple in large groups'; that is although they will not go out and shoot someone they (the teenagers overloaded on vilent vidiogames and stuff) can adopt an atitude of ... well I don't know how to say it. or colony ships Better yet bild a huge colonny ship mid game, load 1pop on it,move next to alien's home, sell it, wait for it to enter orbit , buy it. it should work... Note: Use colony modules because they are't thretaning to the A.I.
