I would also love to see ES back here. I must admit that my first impressions of him were quite negative. In time, though, I came to believe that his heart was in the right place and that he would tend to apologize if someone convinced him that he had been wrong. Of course, better not to do things requiring apology at all, but some of us are so stubborn that we'll almost never apologize or even really listen to someone pointing out a fault of ours. He was a very strong person

Here's another Drengin blast. Character: Bastard Years: 3 Diff: Maso Victory: Military Size: Medium Alignment: Pond Scum Score: 23450 Version: 1.61DA Date: 6/25/2007 This was an especially weird game. The Korath were by far the top race for most of the game, but they never researched or built any spore ships. That made the conquest much easier, no need to say!
To answer the 3 questions: 1. No 2. No 3. I've never seen a quantitative answer to this.
Best of wishes to Wyndstar and Neilo, and here's to both of them making life better for all of us fraking metaverse geeks! Neilo, how do you have banners for 2 different empires? Am I reading them wrong? I'm mostly asking because I wouldn't mind participating in two myself.
Here's my humble contribution. Race: Altarian Character: Bastard Years: 5 Dif: Maso Victory: Military Galaxy: Medium Alignment: Neutral Score: 25200 v1.61DA 6/23
Well, I had a great game going as Altarians. Large galaxy, which was the problem. I ran out of memory in the later middle-game. This was before 1.6a, so I'm sure it was because I had invaded too many planets and so had a huge memory leak. I'm working on a Medium Altarian now, so hopefully that will go through.
Hey All! I just got back from vacation, and I can't figure out how to PM anyone. I go to "Private Messages" section of this site, but there's no option to send a message that I can see. What's the secret?
Why not base the election results on the average morale since the last election, then players couldn't just drop taxes before the election? That seems like a good solution. Or, have there be more or stricter penalties for lower levels of morale. That in itself would help make morale buildings worth something again. Is it realistic that tax rates change near an election? Have you never experienced a change in bas
Minors have always been able to build starbases, though I don't recall if I've ever seen them build one on a resource before. Well, in the DA builds I've been playing for quite awhile (sorry I can't be more specific), the minors will definitely take resources. That's nothing new at all. It's been a couple of months now that I've dealt with that fact. I personally like it.
I've seen bonus tiles on many different planets, and I play from small to large galaxies. So, I think some of you have just been unlucky or have not played many DA games, at least in the latest builds, which is what i'm playing. In the latest builds, there's no problem at all with any lack of bonus tiles. It seems (just as an estimation) that 1/5 planets have some sort of research bonus (this isn't at all counting PQ1-4, which never have bonuses), 1/5 have manu bonuses, a few have farming bon
chanbrothers, see the other thread about this that I replied to you in. That might help.
There once was man named McSweeny Who spilt some gin on his weenie Just to be couth He added vermouth And slipped his wife a martini A very cultivated man, indeed. I'll drink to that!
I think it should be clearer on how to research techs that will allow bigger and better ships. When I play I do not know the technologies to research to get better ships. There should be an interface that automatically picks the technology needed (or gives a technology tree) for better ships. You should be able to view/lookup the interface at any time. It should incude the techs you have already and the techs you need to a specific ship. I end up playing for hours and
I might have overstated my lack of development. It's not that I didn't do anything. I especially worked to colonize planets that would get me nearer to 1-3 and make standing starbases, the easiest or targets, less essential. Of course I built factories and starports on planets to get colony ships and constructors out and about, as well. I don't think I built up any military, though. Or if I did, I didn't need to.
I'm surprised no one has yet mentioned Stanislaw Lem. His most popular classic is Solaris, which has been made into two movies, one by Tarkovsky, one a Hollywood fiasco with George Clooney. The book itself is extraordinary. It has deep philosophical themes, cool sci-fi (especially for the 70's, when I believe it was written), and a very eerie, often scary tone. I haven't read any of his other books yet, but I'll be doing so as soon as I can get my grubby little paws on them. <br/
While at it, why do the AI persist on planting enhancing buildings (powerplants, coordinators etc) on the bonus tiles and the actual production buildings on ordinary tiles? I've rarely seen that on the latest DA builds, though it used to be more common. The AI is using bonus tiles quite well now, from what I see. There's always the chance that the AI built as it did based upon short-term goals, which didn't pan out in the longer term. For
Spot on. The AI intelligence levels were 'beginner'. No wonder the game was so awful. One lives and learns everyday. Thanks. Well, but if you had it set to Masochistic, then they shouldn't have been at beginner level. Sounds like either a bug or something wrong with how the game is interacting with your computer configuration. If you still have a saved game from that game, it would probably be worth it to send it to [email protected] and explain
I suppose that the 25 (!) Lucky Rangers that I found over the course of the game may have had something to do with no one being eager to attack me. Victory through Archaeology! I almost always choose the Luck bonus, and I often play Universalists for the extra 25% Luck. But imagine this: I've never found a lucky ranger. NEVER. I've played many DL and DA games. What the heck?
This is not a pirate issue, it's the Galactic Privateer Bug. You'll get it with any AI you're at war with if you have the privateer. It's terribly annoying. I haven't built it for a few of the newest DA beta builds, but I've heard that it might be fixed. Or maybe that was just a fantastical dream . . .
At this point I wish I had started as Arceans, as I know them the least of all the races. Is there anyone excited for this tourney who plays Arceans with any consistency?
Even if they did not stack your not going to be building over it, your stuck with it, like it or not. Well, you could destroy the colony, but why? I'd like to hear if anyone has had success with a slash-and-burn strategy. I've only destroyed a colony once, when I knew I couldn't hold it at all and wanted to do some significant damage to an opponent.
Swiffo, I'd think long and hard about destroying an MCC. After all, it gives 100% econ bonus, which, unless your strategy is pure flipping, will be far more valuable to you than the occasional flipped planet. Just a thought. Good luck!
One question, Purge. Will you kindly allow me to post my scores as I did for Wyndstar's tourneys? I can't take screen shots, but I'll just copy all the info from my character's "report card" and, if you feel the need to confirm my data, you can do so easily by looking up my character. I'm terribly sorry to give you the trouble, but I won't be able to submit scores otherwise. Unless, of course, you come to my house and show me how to use software to take screenshots. I'd be all for the latt
Thank the gods! May we let this topic RIP (at least until someone claims the fix doesn't work!).
Thanks for starting this, Purge! Luckily I had just started a game as Altarians before you announced this. The real problem with playing as Altarians, if you're doing so because you find the Altarian woman attractive (as I do!), is that you can't see her then . In that sense, she's better as an enemy. Just think of the make-up sex after a brutal war <img src="http://images.stardoc
