FYI, I fixed the problem by uninstalling GC2, DA and TA then reinstalling them again. I hadn't realized it earlier, but somehow DA was stuck in limboland, half installed, half not, and I could not reinstall it, so I gutted everything and reinstalled and all seems well now.

Done. I mailed a log earlier after I had to reboot. I'll paste a link to this one here. [link="http://www.rmondy.com/stardock/ExceptionLog.zip"]ExceptionLog.zip[/link]

I have read the sticky posts - I am using a 1600x1200 resolution with 32-bit color for the desktop. I have plenty of page file space (max allowed under Win XP). I am using an ATI Radeon X1900XTX with the latest drivers. I just recently bought the game so I can't say it ever worked so far. As soon as the intro movie ends, the game crashes. I installed SmartEx but when it catches the crash, it makes it impossible to alt tab, ctrl alt del or otherwise get out of the GalCiv2 window. I did see the

I went to re-install GC2 on my system... hadn't run it since I did a fresh windows XP install. SDC showed a lot of old info - old last updated dates, was missing newer products, even after reinstalling SDC. I reloaded my XML data and changed servers and SDC updated this time. However, GC2 won't install. It downloads GC2.SDC to 100%, then starts it over again and does this ad nauseum. It did this before I got SDC updated, too. I tried selecting the options to delete f

FYI, the last post on this was 4 days ago, but this problem continues today. It looks like I was able to resolve by installing each module seperately. The "Removing temporary files" for Heightmaps step took an extraordinarily long time but it appears to have completed and as far as I can tall, GC2 is up to date now.

I'd rather see the next update focus on tightening all the bolts in the game, too. New features are awesome, but I don't mind waiting for them, or paying for new expansions, etc. Not that I'd want all new features to be in an expansion of course, but I think SD proved with DA that they can make an expansion that includes a lot of new stuff. I think that adding new stuff is undermined by bugginess in the product though, so I'd love to see a dev pass that simply addresses known bugs/issues, includ

I thought the Sims was pretty entertaining until I realized what I was doing and asked myself why I was spending hours playing house and flirting with myself. I do think that it's a high quality game in terms of art, music and mechanical detail, though.

Hmm, well even with a basic "arts" degree, you should be able to pull in at least $10/hour. I recently graduated from college, and I've already got such a job. How does anyone live on $10/hour? I was making that much fresh out of high school with no degree fifteen years ago. If you've got a degree of any kind and the best you can pull in is $10/hour, you wasted a lot of time and money on a degree.

You may as well drop it, this is not going to go anywhere. Only SD knows how much work would be needed to fix this bug, and if they say, "well we could, but you'd have to give up other cool new features", then the conversation is over because SD has declared a preference, and they've also given enough incentive to ensure other players won't agree enough to change their mind by comparing a single bug fix to "new features".

I humbly suggest IrfanView as a light graphics application, primarily for sizing, cropping and converting images. www.irfanview.com

Thanks for the reply. Rest assured that I won't make the mistake of believing I am any more than a dollar sign to you, and I will likewise not make the mistake of hoping to be treated as anything more than such by you in the future. Had I realized this beforehand, I would have saved you the trouble of this entire thread. Regards,

Okay, let me first officially say loudly that some of you really need to get a grip. Always a good way to get on a good foot with someone (in this case, customers.) As Zoomba explained, last night (middle of the night) there was a hardware failure. In an effort to keep all sites up, a backup was restored but caused a DNS configuration error which caused -- for a few hours until this morning -- for galciv2.com to point

It's unfortunate and I accept that it was accidental. But I think we can all imagine how we'd feel if we went to CNN.com, Disney.com, Amazon.com, etc and the content we expect was instead replaced with articles about everything from how wonderful "God" is or why the "Anti-Christ" is a Jew, to why our personal efforts to reduce global warming are in vain because it's a myth. I accept it was accidental. I accept that this situation is very possibly one that was never foreseen or considere

I bought civ4, liked it enough to recommend it, then abruptly stopped playing it. I don't recall why I stopped playing it, off hand. Maybe it just didn't have enough long lasting fun factor. One thing I disliked a lot of Civ 3 versus earlier versions was the compensatory research system where techs became cheaper and cheaper for other civs to get as more civs had the tech. While realistic, it really cut into the point of going research heavy, which was my preferred playstyle.

To respond to two posters: Thank you for the information and I can appreciate the fact that many of the views may not be from Stardock employees. However, some were and they conflicted with my own views. Secondly, I don't know how the blogs on the front page are selected, maybe it's random and they all just shared a common theme, but that would lead me to believe the "JoeUser" community is heavily weighted in one direction if so. And finally, even if someone not affiliated with Stardoc

It appears that the www.galciv2.com website has been (I assume inadvertently) overwritten with a personal blog. Unfortunately, an apparently quite conservative personal blog with everything from accounts of visits to Jerry Fallwell's church, to why global warming is a farce and everyone who thinks global warming is real is wrong. Now, I'm not making this post to talk about those issues. Nor am I posting to bash Stardock. And, I know the people who run the company and the site are human

No, it's got all kinds of personal blogs and comments on it. It's a mistake apparently.

The amount of money spent on the Iraq War could have solved the social security issue for 75 years into the future. The amount of money spent on the Iraq War could have doubled the amount of money the entire world collectively provides in aid to developing countries. Think about that.

To be fair, we can have as many politcal parties as we want in the process. Candidates don't have to be Republican, Democrat or even Independent, they can be whatever they want and run for any office. The thing is that they won't get many votes because people are accustomed to working with a two party system. That's tradition, not liberties being hampered. That's like saying people only seem to ever buy Coke and Pepsi, and therefore those two companies need to be penalized for not allowing other

What I love most about this guy is how he labels the topic like it's something really important we need to read about, rather than him whining because he can't read directions and decided to let multiple people use his retail discs. WTG, champ.

The AI gives -way- too much value to some things. It absolutely will not trade away ships, influence points, or starbases unless you give an unbelievable offer. Even with high diplomacy, it will expect what seems like 10x (or more) bc for a ship than the ship cost to build. It's easier to buy planets and techs to build your own versions of those ships than to buy the ships themselves. On the flipside, the AI will trade off trade goods like aphrodesiac and micro repair bots for peanuts.
