I always loved the lead-in that began each episode..."The Invaders ... alien beings from a dying planet. Their destination - The Earth Their purpose - To make it their world David Vincent has seen them, for him it began one lost night on a lonely country road, looking for a short-cut he never found." Rumor has it that this great, but short-lived Quinn Martin tv series from 1967 may finally see a non-bootleg DVD release for the North American market. I'm sure many of

Good topic...you'll get a lot of replies for this one I'm sure . For some strange reason I have a great collection of westerns, even though I know almost nothing about that era. I think it has to do with the whole morality issue of good and evil (of course in real life nothing is that black and white). The genre, if there is such a category would be the "Revenge" or "Payback" t

I am never drinking again I hear that moderate consumption of alcohol helps thin the blood and keeps those blood platelettes from sticking together thereby promoting a healthier cardiovascular system... well, that's my story and I'm standing by it; for medicinal purposes only ! This being a long weekend about to start here in Canada, I'll be testing tha

MarshallONeil... a fanged or toothed shoehorn... what a concept! Why the hell didn't I think of that. Now if I could just mod my ships to look like large, menacing, vicious, evil death dealing shoehorns, what fun that would be. The Great Galactic Shoehorn's motto: "We'll Size You Up and Squeeze You In" (I think that's fitting).

Thanks MottiKhan and neilo... I feel complete now! I feel the evil gerontological shoehorn rising within me. Oh wait ,that didn't come across too well...er ...ah I meant to say, I feel that old shoehorn surging with evil... oh crap, I'm digging a deeper hole for myself,... er let's just say I'm happy to represent The Tyranny of Evil and leave it at that (phew). Nice to be aboard and repr

My evil half (don't ask) is very tempted to join you guys. After all, by getting older, one naturally becomes cantankerous, foul, mean spirited... Damn Near EVIL (well, some of us at least). I already have one foot in my own empire "The Great Galactic Shoehorn" (which any of you are welcome to join btw), one foot in the "Gerontocracy", and a placement of a third foot to be determined (hey, careful I know what you were thinking). To echo what ElWhopO was saying, I also may not h

ElWhopO, as a prerequisite for living here, you must have watched all re-runs from the Bob and Doug McKenzie's "Great White North" show, The Red Green Show, Trailer Park Boys, not to mention pledging allegiance at the holy shrine of William (Bill) Shatner, recite all Toronto Maple Leaf and Montreal Canadian hockey team players living and dead from as far back as 1967 (cakewalk), and have used the word(?) "eh" in any sentence structure, and have at anytime purchased beer, smokes (cigarettes) and

I'm not much of a drinker, but occasionally like to take a nip or two. (Scotch) Glenfiddich single malt (Beer) Rickards's Red (Wine) Shiraz (Liquer) Peppermint Schnapps (kept in the fridge) (Being older now, a couple of beers on a hot day just makes me just want to lie down and take a snooze)

I own both, but I am still playing DL. I agree with you Ferrel that it is a "mature game". It has been refined to the point where you can play the game without worrying about changing your strategies because of changes made in the latest patch. This makes it a stable game and it's like putting on a comfortable pair of shoes that have been broken in. I think I would find it too confusing at this point to keep switching back and forth between the two. I'd rather focus on DL for the time b

I would also strongly recommend Disciples II (gold edition), Age of Wonders/Shadow Magic, as well as Heroes of Might and Magic II and III, Master of Orion II, and last but certainly not least, Sid Meier's Civilization II. All very good, with Disciples II being my favourite of the bunch.

I have both DL and DA. Only purchased DA a little while ago, and jumped right in just to get a feel for it. But in all honesty, I am still getting a lot out of DL and like playing it only because it is so familiar to me now. There is still a lot of replay value in DL for me, and I'm experimenting with all the different races, victory options, levels, map sizes, strategies, etc.,etc. I know I seem slow getting around to trying all these variations, but my schedule only permits a certai

Well, they didn't waste any time getting that revue out! Judging by their revue, it seems that my worst fears about them creating a "second class" X-Com game have in part been realized. Oh well, as one player who reviewed the game stated... "it's up to the modding community now to set things right" (or words to that effect). Too bad... I had high hopes for this one. Thanks for the link CornhuskerMac.

I can't add much more than has already been said; I too have enjoyed reading your posts and have expanded my knowledge base considerably. I'm sure we haven't seen the last of "Wyndstar". Good luck (and take no prisoners).

As a big fan of the old X-Com Defense game I am also curious about this game's release. The only thing that concerns me is that the release date, if I'm not mistaken has been pushed back several times, and the game itself has been in development for quite some time. I think the game is being developed by a smaller company, so possibly the resources they have at their disposal may be a determining factor in it's eventual release, or it may have to do with distribution and/or legal "red tape".<br/

Reply to Minor Races? in Game Talk

Playing DL (latest ver.), I always see minor races show up early to mid game and they have appeared in every game I've played so far. I simply use them as a resource and trade with them until I get bored of their presence and at which point I take their nice big "juicy" planet as a parting gift. When I first started playing DL I didn't quite know what to make of them and for the most part let them be, but soon watched them eventually get "consumed" by others. I still keep the option to i

Command and Conquer I, and Age of Empires I were my first foray into the early RTS genre of games. I realized very early on that RTS games simply did not suit my playing style. I much prefer TBS types instead...it's just what I'm more comfortable with.

I agree with Angelon that X-COM UFO Defense/UFO Enemy Unknown was probably the best game around. It had many different elements to the game that kept ones interest. Squad based, tactical, some role playing elements, economics, research, and wonderful story development that employed a good deal of never ending tension to the game. All perfect ingredients for the ultimate gaming experience. I see that there is a company about to release an "X-Com like" game shortly (UFO Extraterrestrials), but

Thank God(s)! I was initially intimidated by the question of "How old are you?" and a little hesitant about posting a response, but my fears have melted away. It's a healthy sign for sure to see others, such as myself in the 50+ crowd playing GCII/DL/DA (as well as other notable games). I've been a gamer for many years (got the gaming bug while using an Amiga 500) and hope never to lose interest in gaming. As long as companies like Stardock exist and take an interest in consumer feedba
