My PC is approximately 5+ years old now and still chugging along fairly well. No consoles for me, so all my gaming is done on my trusty old PC. Civ V late game crashes frequently but is still playable with all graphics set to low and playing against only 4 or 5 other Civs on small to medium maps sizes. Not the epic gaming experience I must admit but still highly enjoyable. It's probably the most cpu intensive game installed on my machine I think. I'll probably bu

There were a few games from my wish list that went on sale but I resisted the temptation to purchase as well. I still have a back log of games not touched from their Christmas sale. I thought about getting AOW III but have since read many reviews which changed my mind about purchasing the game (not the game for me I think). Like you Martok, I mostly play strategy games (single player only) and that curtails my buying habits greatly. [e digicons];)[/e] Besides I'm
I never tried any of the campaigns but I was always a little bit curious how they might play out regarding the back story and all. I think I might try to play all of the different civs before the next incarnation appears (I've got plenty of time), a promise I made to myself a long time ago (DL,DA?) but just wound up playing my favourite three or four over and over again. In my last game I was using it as a lab experiment, sort of (tiny, one opponent, 8 minors, etc.) and ba
Are you off your rocker(s)!! Get ready you geezers. It's coming! https://forums.galciv2.com/448979/page/1/ https://www.galciv3.com/
Hello to all! I see some familiar names and faces. Good to see that there is still an interest in the GalCiv universe. I hope GalCiv III will attract some of the old crowd back from the past. I still submit a game or two when I find the time. Cheers everyone! [e digicons][/e]
Wow, hard to pick just one! Some excellent titles already posted (and I played most of them way back when). All of the KOEI titles were great fun as I recall (Nobunaga's Ambition , Genghis Khan, Romance of the Three Kingdoms...) Well, narrowed down to 2... X-Com: UFO Defense aka UFO: Enemy Unknown Master of Orion II: Battle at Antares (MOO2) I'd hav
Well, I finally completed my latest game (TotA/Yor/Immense/Tech Victory) and uploaded my score to the Meta/Altmetaverse. What a grind that was! Wow, lately these immense maps are killing me (time-wise) and are losing the fun value I seem to remember. I think it may be quite some time before I start up another. Maybe I just need to put it down for a while or it could mean I'm finally getting bored with the game itself, I just don't know. "Endless Space" looks in
Yup. I still have mine. It's wrapped in plastic along with it's 12" monitor and about a dozen old games. Maybe I should dig it out and fire it up for old times sake and play some Sierra games... Space Quest, Manhunter, etc. [e digicons]:)[/e]
This guy is very good. You essentially play the game and discover new things and strategies with him, like looking over his shoulder and listening to him think out loud. He's definitely no beginner and you find yourself asking the same questions that he has just asked himself. I've played the demo and followed his tutorials and "let's play" series with great interest. http://www.youtube.com/user/TekkorGJC
Wow! Some great games being played out here. Makes for a very good read! For the hell of it, I just finished a DA game recently, played as the Yor. That's the first DA game I've played since getting TotA. I had forgotten how different the two games were until I got back into DA, difficult to put into words exactly but they certainly have a very different "feel" from each other is all I can say. I've gone back to TotA ('better the devil you know...') and sta
Many thanks Neilo, Gaunathor and Sole Soul. I had forgotten the exact figures but your answers cleared that up. Cheers!
Particle, i think the 100% only works with Super Breeder. Other than that, and not including any other improvements or bonuses, if your green, your getting good growth.
Thanks for that info Neilo. Green = Fertile. [e digicons][/e] I have yet to play as the Torians, so I will definitely keep that 100% approval rate in mind when I give them a go. My game playing the Terrans is going very well. I have gained 75% influence over the entire galaxy (immense) with less than 10 turns to go before an influence/cultural victory is declared but "it ain't over till the fat lady sings" as the saying goes. Building the MCC early helped a little I think but that thing is so dang unpredictable at times as far as planet flipping goes. At this point I can't really tell whether it's doing the job or because I have almost all of the
Hi everyone. Just thought I'd check in to say that things are progressing fairly well in my current game. I've met 4 of my 6 opponents so far. The colony rush is going quite well with a few decent planets grabbed in the process. Zoomed up to Xeno Ethics ---> Good and Evil (evil of course) ---> Concepts of Malice and rush bought the MCC! I'm now trying to get my economy going as I took a big hit rush buying and I'm not in the green yet but I think
Neilo, Motti... just reading how much fun the two of you are having has got me all juiced to start a new game! Here's my set-up: ToA (2.03) (Metaverse) Immense galaxy stars - scattered planets - abundant extreme worlds - rare events - occasional Opponents - 6, minors (8?) tech stealing (disabled), tech brokering (disabled) research - slow Playing as the Terrans with Federalists as the political party o

I hope things are good with you and that goes for you as well Motti if you are reading this. Yes, I noticed some activity in the TOE forums as of late and both you and Motti seem to be enjoying a renewed interest in the game (DA). Good to see some vets from
I'm thinking about starting up another immense ToA game soon, but may just start up a large DA game for old times sake. Good to see some familiar names, Neilo and GW.
I'm looking forward to this! I was a huge fan of this game when it first came out and it was one of the first PC games along with Civ II that got me hooked on strategy games big time! Let's hope they do it right and make this a true successor to one of the best TBS games ever.
I enjoy the cultural/influence victory the most. There's nothing quite like the feeling you get from seeing your opponents (and their worlds) succumb one by one to your gentle (cough) form of persuasion, but make sure you have a powerful navy in reserve (even if it's never used) just as a deterrent... the SCC is your friend. I find this sort of victory plays out best on gigantic and immense maps.
Geez! Looks like us geezers were in danger of slipping into 9th place after a somewhat lengthy and comfy 4th and 5th spot (AltMeta) not too long ago. If it were not for the efforts of Uncle Craig to bring us back from the brink I fear we might be booted out of the heralded top 10... good grief... damn those young'uns! I think we are now in 8th spot, thanks to his diligence. Good work sir, if you are ever nosing around the forums to read this. I fear our si
Nice to see some familiar names still kicking around. I would play more and submit more games if I had the time... sadly this is not the case. I think the last game I completed was back in October of 2010 and immediately started up another but got derailed at some point and haven't been back since. I occasionally check the forums and the AltMeta for signs of life. So good of you Mumble to open this thread. Cheers to you and all GalCiv2 alumni.
Silent Storm/Sentinels is a great game. I haven't played it for quite some time, but it still resides in a cozy little corner of my hard drive somewhere just waiting for me to revisit. Sorry I can't answer your question but I do agree that an XCOM/UFO: Enemy Unknown revival would look very good using the same engine.
I just finished up a game today on a gigantic map that took about a month to complete. I usually try to submit a game every other month or so, time permitting. I think the community is still very much alive but admittedly not as active in the forums or the Metaverse/AltMeta as in previous years. People are still playing GalCiv II/DL and it's two expansions, DA and ToA as far as I can tell judging by the questions posted in the forums and scores submitted. I'm still enjoying th
When time permits, mostly GalCivII: TA with a little bit of time invested in Civ IV: BTS and Knights of Honor .
President of what? Doesn't matter, Mumble gets my vote... nuff said. [e classic]:congrat:[/e]
