I won't include my current favourite, GalCiv II DL (that would make it 8). The 7 Best:(too bad I had to leave a few off the list) 1) UFO-Enemy Unknown 2) Half-Life:Opposing Force 3) Unreal 4) Rainbow Six 3/Raven Shield/Athena Sword 5) Disciples II (Gold) 6) Master of Orion II 7) Heroes of Might and Magic II Hmm...I seem to like the second installment of most of the games I've played...go figure. The 7 Worst:(but believe me, there were more "

Great suggestions! (some already mentioned) 1)More varied races other than "humanoid"; maybe intelligent gaseous beings or water-based lifeforms (jellyfish-like), pure energy beings, etc, etc. 2)This ties in with #1; each race having their own unique weapons (after all they differ from each other racially, so why not their technology, weapons, ships etc.). So, for example a "Lava" creature could use a heat ray of sorts, a "Giant" single cell creature could use enzymes

I gave up on Norton years ago and then went to Trend (PCcillin) and was very happy for a couple of years, it worked well and was not a resource hog, but read a lot of bad reviews for 2007 ver., some calling it bloatware now. I then found CA Security Suite (antivirus, antispam, firewall, etc.) and all the reviews seemed positive...so I purchased it last month and can say it requires very little in the way of resources to run, runs in the background with very few alerts...I'm very happy with the c

Great responses! Some very interesting games you are all playing. I'm playing GC2 of course, also playing some other excellent TBS games like... Disciples II /gold edition, Age of Wonders /Shadow Magic, Silent Storm /gold edition (more of a squad based TBS though, but fills the void for my old favourite: X-Com UFO Defence), and trying really, really hard to get back into the original Europa Universalis game again. I gave up on this game several times and have installed it again for a TH

Because of my old rig I've decided to try and dig up some classic older games that I may have passed up when they were first released. I know I can play these as I've checked their specs and reviews first. Anyone else looking for bargains on some great games of the past that you may have passed up earlier? Here's my recent list of older, but excellent games I've purchased from bargain bins: Age of Wonders/Shadow Magic Fallout 2 System Shock 2 Silent Storm (Gold

I'm playing GalCiv2 on an older machine (4 yrs.?) and it runs beautifully with these specs... AMD T-Bird 1.0 Ghz, 512 mb RAM, and an ATI 9550 128 mb vid. card, running Win XP Professional. All the textures are there and it looks and runs great, but I have AA turned off, but doesn't matter, still looks and runs very well. Take Kyro's advice and move up to a better card as he suggests, the 9600XT or even go for the 9800Pro if you can afford it. The bottleneck on my system seems to be the (ancient)

Yep...the old Head On commercial was like nails on a chalkboard, it's almost bearable now (maybe they planned it that way with the follow up...hmmm). All the Mentos commercials with the cute smiling people holding the product up to the camera after performing an oh so clever stunt really rubs me the wrong way.

Thanks DethAdder and DeadDodo for your help. DeadDodo, I did what you said and that fixed the problem, thnx.It updated in less than 1 minute after I unchecked the archive box. I had no problems with updates before,I must have accidentally changed my settings and didn't notice what I had done ...doh!

Hi everyone. I have a question concerning downloading updates from Stardock Central. Even though I have a good internet connection (DSL), I have found that auto-downloading an update from SDC takes forever and in some cases never finishes the update. Last night I waited 4 hours plus for it to update, and even when it had eventually reached 100% it stayed that way for another hour, so I gave up after 5 hours and cancelled it all together. Am I doing something wrong? All helpful replies we

Almost forgot another very tense, scary game ... "Aliens vs. Predator 2"! Most of the time your surroundings are very dark, with only your little lamp (which only lasts so long before it goes out)to guide you, and all the time hearing distant screams and screaching and the "thump, thump, thump", of the motion detector as the Aliens chase you in the darkness ... "white knuckles" all the way!

AMD T-Bird 1.0 GHZ processor,Asus A7A266 motherboard,512mb DDR RAM,ATI Radeon 9550 128 mb vid. card,SoundBlaster Live 16 bit audio card. Running Windows XP Professional. Basically,a 4 year old computer with the only upgrade being the recent addition of a newer video card(replaces the original GForce 2 MMX 32 mb card). Everything runs pretty well, but it does "chug" a bit when playing on huge and gigantic maps with maximum A.I. players at some stages into a game, but that's with e

I like to inject some humour into naming my ships, after all there's plenty of humour to be found in the game. I personally choose names like "WhoopAss"1,2,3, etc. for med. sized attack ships, "ComeGetSome"1,2,3,4, etc. for defensive ships, and "Let'sDance"1,2, etc. for small fast attack ships, and the list goes on and on. Just be creative!

How about this idea? Something along the lines of an "X-Com/Ufo Defence" turn-based strategy/squad/combat style of game. Strategic combat combined with a research race included. The story could take place at Roswell, just after the supposed UFO crash, both aliens and human military both pointing fingers at each other for the crash...then the fight is on, and soon to spread globally! The story could develop from the 1950's onward with humans developing their own brand of hybrid technology recover

Hi everyone. Enjoying the game immensely, but I have a question concerning my now ancient computer(4 + yrs)and any suggestions for upgrading would be very helpful since I cannot afford a new computer for at least another year. My specs are: AMD T-Bird 1.1 Ghz, 512 mb ram, ATI Radeon 9550 128 mb vid. card. I am happy with the way GalCivII runs on my machine (although it does chug along in some game scenarios) , and believe it or not it runs other games fairly well such as HL2/CS:S, Spl

I'm still using my old ATI Radeon 9550 card, and can still play a lot of games with it. Works fine, and only cost me about $80 (CDN).
