The good news is that there will be a Galactic Civilizations III. The bad news is that it won't be out this decade.
This decade!?! Oh wait, that's less than 2 years away... almost had me going there Brad... hehe. But seriously, you people are the best... the absolute best! I'm intrigued by what changes v2.0 will bring to the game and also eagerly anticipating "news as it happens" regarding the upcoming "not-MOM" game in development. On b
Basically my new PC is a do everything machine which makes it my only gaming rig as well. I'm strictly a PC gamer (puffs up chest proudly) and see no reason to own any other platform. When time permits, I usually log in about a couple of hours a day M-F (helps me unwind and relax) and again, time permitting, I get in maybe about 8-10 hours total on weekends... so if I'm lucky, approximately 20 hours a week. Holidays are another matter... I've been known to pull all nig

Over the years I've played every genre conceivable, but depending on the amount of free time and mood, my preferences are such: 1. TBS For when I have the most free time available... delivers the most satisfaction in the long run than any other game genre, offering the greatest challenges and longevity, IMHO. Current favourites: Galactic Civilizations II /DL/DA/TotA, Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic, Disciples II (but I think I most pref
Hi folks! I'm close to finishing my first TotA game, but I have to say that I've been taking my sweet time about it . [e digicons][/e] Sadly, the summer is rapidly coming to a close and I feel I've squandered a good portion of it doing this, that and the other thing (I love saying that... it confounds me to this very day [e digicons][/e] ) I am only now trying to make up for it (too little, too late I'm afraid). Oh
Dog of Justice:
I submitted a game on May 2nd, and the resubmitted the same game yesterday (you get one chance to do this) after milking it for score. The official metaverse updated my score for the game, while the AltMeta didn't.
Kryo:
Yes, the altmeta doesn't record resubmissions at the moment. If I can figure a way to do that without having to reupdate *every* game a player has ever played each time their score changes, I'll add it.
I guess I somehow missed this post (I found it accidentally while searching for something else). Some entertaining and heartwarming glimpses into other people's lives here. The OP is over a year old now and although I see some familiar names, I kind of wonder where the rest have wound up... are they still active players in the GalCiv games and expansions or have they moved on to other things (some were even big time board gamers before comp. games caught their interest). I'
Left 4 Dead [link="http://www.l4d.com/"]WWW Link[/link] looks rather interesting. It appeals to the semi-retired FPS in me. What I like most about this particular FPS is that without a supreme team effort, you simply won't survive alone... that simple! No "running and gunning", twitch-fest here it seems in this game... stay together, conserve ammo, plan your moves, communicate with your colleagues and you will escape. (and it looks darn scary too)
Here's an idea (not sure if this would work). I'm Emperor and sole member of my own lowly little empire which I started a long time ago... but nobody asked to come onboard and I didn't really go on a recruiting drive either... so it just sits, but it is a registered empire in the Metaverse/AltMeta. Would it be possible to re-direct any new recruits to that empire and then at a later date transfer their characters (scores) back to The Gerontocracy (not even sure if
I'm just wondering how many members of this empire use it for their primary character or only character.
Well, I have a character in three different empires, but I've decided that this strategy wasn't really helping me or the other empires score-wise, so I've pretty much settled on using one character/one empire in order to focus my efforts... and that empire would be us!! :)
Just a thought, that if the AI is so heavily in debt at this point due to it's supposed lease buying of colony ships for the initial rush period, would this not be a good time to try and purchase some of their newly colonized/undeveloped planets for a song during their "flat line" period. After all, if your population is steadily increasing, say with 100% approval and you are staying in the green from all the tax revenue generated, does the AI show some sort of financial desperation and
OK - here's an interesting one. I purchased 1 DD+CD a couple weeks ago. Today I got 2 CDs, shipped individually, delivered to my house. I checked my back account and I was not double charged, and I don't particularly want to be. So...do you accept return shipments?
You placed an order and received it in just 2 weeks... you lucky dog... probably got one of mine by mistake. :NOTSURE: (I pre-ordered back in Aug. 2007... still waiting for the cd to arrive).
That's great news ghostwes! :CONGRAT: Glad to see that all that effort wasn't lost to the ether.
Well, I've played quite a few games that should have showed up on the Altmeta, so we may be even higher on the chart once the problem has been fixed.
... you weren't kidding!

Hmm... my most recent addition to this thread hasn't shown up anywhere on the "recent forum posts". Oh well, eventually it'll be found. :) :NOTSURE:
Well... they have finally landed! The North American release is here and my season 1, 5 disc DVD set arrived last week. Paramount has added some extra features not seen in the European release, namely the extended 60 min. version of the pilot "Beachhead" and episode intros by Roy Thinnes. The interview with Mr. Thinnes sheds some light on the making of the tv series as well, even if they let him ramble on a bit at times, it's still worth listening to him reminisce abou
I was playing WoW and teamed up with some guy i didnt know when all the sudden he had to leave the game because, as he said it, "mom´s getting that look again". At that time I felt really old in the gamingworld...
Are you sure about that? :) He could have been referring to his "significant other". I know some guys that still refer to their wives as "Ma", not me though... hehe, (looking over shoulder). I occasionally get the twin laser beams of death fro
Out of curiosity, I've just checked and compared current active players and their game entries on both the Altmeta and Metaverse and things look like they match up for everyone... except yours ghost, just as GW has stated. Your TotA games are not showing up on the Altmeta for some reason, while other people's TotA game submissions are. What up wit dat? (kept your receipt?... get a refund!)
"... the research finds, the aging brain is simply taking in more data and trying to sift through a clutter of information, often to its long-term benefit." Whoot!... there is hope! :D A nice (and comforting) read GW, thanks for the link.
Welcome mightygoobi.
And we just moved into 6th place as a result... most excellent!
Yes ghostwes, some of our latest recruits seem to be going like a house on fire with their game submissions! Congratulations to them and of course to all other active Gerontocrats for keeping us in the running, so to speak! :CONGRAT: Ghost, I like the edit to the OP, with the stats... very snazzy. :HOT:
Is that immediately, or after you process the turn?
Well, one time for certain after I had gifted the starbase I clicked "done" and returned to the map to look for the new SB colour change... and it was gone. Other times that I've tried this, I may have assumed without checking first and inadvertently hit the turn button and then noticed it's disappearance one or two turns later.
Any objections if we lower the minimum age to 30 instead of 35?
None from me. Besides, I think arteriosclerosis begins manifesting itself around late 20's now anyway. Today's younger generation will probably age faster compared to us older folks at the same age due to inactive lifestyles, poor food choices and stress. That makes us pretty much the same on the inside... see, we do have something in common! Let the recruiting begin!
Another thing that's been bugging me lately. I read a post a long time ago that stated that if you want to stir things up between races that are getting a little too cozy with one another and one of them is showing negative relations towards you because of your close proximity Influence SB's, then just gift that offending starbase to their cozy neighbour and see if their warm and fuzzy relations take a hit. Now, I've tried this a few times and every time I gift that starbase it
