Can't give you an official answer, but Brad (of Stardock) and Florian (of Paradox) both said that they are working on a solution for the current problem (the 1.0X update doesn't work with the German version). I got the impression that they will be working towards a solution that allows for smooth updating of non-English game versions. If not language-independent updates, my guess is that non-English updates will be released either simultaneously or sho

He's asking about how to import ship designs that he downloaded from the site here. I have no idea how to do that, so can't help him ... but perhaps someone else can provide the information?
I've had my share of trouble with the German release of the game, but Stardock did respond to the matter within a very realistic and quick time frame, as did Paradox, the European distributor. Stardock's system allowed me to simply download a full US copy of the game, using the serial number that came with my purchased game, which was an immediate and welcome solution. I don't know any other company who would have given me this opportunity without havi
Using IE instead of Firefox fixed the problem for me also. I only use IE when I absolutely have to, and never comfortably, but creating a Metaverse character sort of -was- an emergency, no?
I tried to create a Metaverse character, but the creation seems to be stuck at "processing data...". Just to check that I'm not doing something wrong, here are the steps: I use my Stardock account to log in (same one I use to post here), go to the Metaverse section, select "edit my characters", click on "add player", type in a name (different than my Stardock nickname), paste in the serial number of my game copy, don't choose a logo for the time being,
It seems to be a known problem and you can swap your serial for a working one. Have a look at this page: https://www.galciv2.com/paradox/ Hope this helps.
v1.0D (and later) in SDC will give you the Bonus Pack content. Okay, I'm confused. Does this mean that if I downloaded 1.0X (the whole game) from SDC, I do not have to download the Bonus Pack from the "Download" section? This content is already included in 1.0X?
I was just about to download the file(s) needed to access the bonus features of my Collector's Edition and noticed that there are two different options. The second one, called "Install Galactic Civilizations II Desktop Enable Collectors Edition (Windows XP or later)", says that it will install the "Galactic Civilizations II Desktop". What exactly is this? Also, there is a pack with bonus materials in the download section "for 1.0D and later"
TW, What do you think about the proposal made here https://www.galciv2.com/Forums.aspx?ForumID=162&AID=109654 Link ? I've always been a huge fan of multilingual games. For one, they are much easier to update (lanaguage files separated from the actual code), better to maintain *and* also allow for worl
Nah, it's not that I don't trust Brad -- have known him for years now, and I value and treasure him (we both frequent the same Usenet discussion group), so that's not the issue. But there's Paradox in the picture, too, and whenever two companies work on something, things get slowed down, miscommunication creeps in, and I just don't want to have to wait, worry or deal with any more trouble. But as I said, by the time I had read your post I think it was
Yes, I saw it, but I don't really want to fiddle around with files. This may or may not work in the long run, or may or may not cause problems with future updates. Had I seen the post before I had downloaded half a gig already, I would probably have given it a whirl, but well, it's just ten more hours now, so who cares. At least I know that the version I'll hav
Whilst this all sounds good, there is still one vital point: The version 1.0X is now NOT available in the downloads sections where it is supposed to be (apparently it can still be found somewhere, though I've not seen this for certain myself). It is in the "Downloads" section. What you want is the "Bo
It is very sad, because this also happend with the original GalCiv. Could we Germans at least get a free English version to download then? With your German version, you received a serial key. Register this serial key and use Stardock Central to download GalCiv2 (the US version). Stardock Central will
Take a look on smartsurfer-programms, if sdc can resume the download you will save a LOT money, I'm online at 0.14ct/min with isdn (happy glas-faser-area here....) Unfortunately, SDC doesn't seem to resume files if you cancel the download (there's no "stop" button, just a "cancel" one), so I can't use
Well, that's what I was afraid would happen. Stardock says "Paradox is your contact", and Paradox says "Stardock is your contact!" -- and the people getting the short end of the stick are those who bought the German version. The only positive aspect here is that the key(s) that come(s) with the German version enable you to download the full, registered copy of GalCiv2 through Stardock Central. That's about 1 GB of data. Downloading this wil
Well, if you don'r mind playing with the US version and have a highspeed connection (unlike me), you can just use the serial code that you'll get with the German retail version and then download GalCiv2 from the official site. If nothing else that would be a temporary solution until Stardock/Paradox come up with a fix for the patch trouble (and it won't be more expensive than if you had bought a license online). The game itself seems to be very good, a
Here's my "me, too". I actually don't want to always have to wait for localised patches -- especially since I expect Stardock's support to outlast Paradox's support. A simple way to avoid any such issues would have been to make the game multilingual (at least beneath the surface) and put all the text in language files.
Well, he's right that the German version of 1.0 comes without any intro sound or speech, the tutorials have not been translated, and the localised German version cannot be updated at all (see the other thread on this topic). There isn't an option to switch the language either (which I don't understand, as there would have been plenty of space on the second CD -- especially since the voices weren't translated anyway --, and this would have taken care of
Follow-up: No, that doesn't work either. The updated game still crashes right after the intro (now already after the Paradox intro (when I updated the movie through SDC, it crashed after the GalCiv2 intro). So, I guess all buyers of the German version, including the CE, are stuck with 1.0, unable to update. It is a little unexpected ... Perhaps Stardock or Paradox will come up with a fix in the next few days. Alternatively I'd also take the
Actually,. it's just the description that says that it is the 1.0D update. The name of the file that is downloaded indicates that it is 1.0X, however. Well, I'm downloading it right now, then I'll install GalCiv2 fresh from the discs, and see if the manually downloaded patch works.
Have you tried to download the patch on www.galciv2.com site? There could be a problem with SDC due to file timestamps: SDC will surely think that some files shouldn't be updated since they are newer that what is registred for the US version while they correspond to an older version. At the risk of so
How about the localisation of the game? Are the voices good? Are there translation issues or spelling mistake? I didn't really play it much yet. When the game arrived, I installed it, ran it, looked at the tutorials, made sure the game runs, and then went to download the patch (with was a bit involved
