I haven't played the largest map yet. I tend to like the huge size. And tonights game sucked up 2.3GB. I had a dozen or so of the DarkAngel ships in this game. They must be a high poly ship. I guess if I go up to the largest map i will need more than my current 60MB of page file. ChaosD - How does the game run on the 64-bit?

I have an Audigy 4 card and have not had that problem. I get the occasional crash but I just start the game again and pick up at the lst autosave. Funny, I only have a 60MB swap file. I like using my ram more than hard drive. And I have 3GB of ram to play with. Tonights game actually used more ram than I have seen it use before. It got up to 2.3GB usage using a huge map.

Sounds like it's time for some special cooling fans to be installed. You may want to check the area around the cooling fans just to be sure nothing is blocking airflow. Those are pretty high temps, it would make me a bit nervous, to say the least. My CPU was getting up close to 70 degrees C, so I installed a Zalman fan, which lowered it a good 10 degrees. And rearranging two of the PCI cards lowered the video temps by over 30 degrees C. The card that was next to the video card was the

And you can already get the tactical info on the fleet you are about to attack, just click on it. You will see the offensive and defensive capabilities and should be able to judge whether your attacking fleet or ship can handle the job.

They should probably say 'recommended minimum', and it would be nice if they would also list an 'optimal' setup as well, just so you really know what you are getting into.

There is only one GC2.XML file, which is located in the GalCiv2\XML folder. And that one you will probably never change. There are two each of GC2Types.XML and GC2Ships.XML, one each located in C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\ Data \English and in C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\ MetaverseData \English. The ones in the MetaverseData folder you also should not modify. Those have to stay consist

Unless you are using 64-bit Windows more than 3GB won't do you much good. That is why I only went to 3 instead of loading up to 4.

It is not an expansion to the current game if it is a stand alone package. It would simply be another version of the game. An expansion, to me, is new and better weapons, techs, aliens, ships, ship building tools, planet options, things like that. Improvements, you know? Like Sim City 4 to Rush Hour. I guess I am more in favour of the traditional way. And worrying about getting it out by Christmas should be se

It is better to have no military at all, versus a small, weak military force. I always go for the research centers first, then the research acadamies, then the Xeno Econ and Industry theories, then the Xeno Ethics so I can get the Neutrality Learning Centers. Once the NLC's are in place the other researches go twice as fast. It is usually quite a while before I am attacked. And I usually just pretty much ignore the alie

You got me curious, so I put the stopwatch to it. Same map and I think 5 opponents, well into a game. 40 seconds. My basic system specs: 2.8GHz Pentium D (Dual Core) 3GB ram (and a smallish - 60MB - swap file) Nvidia 6800GS Maxtor 300GB HD

They researched the miniturization tech branch, and probably had the Hyperion Shrinker also. Also, there are anomolies that give increases, and if you build a couple more survey ships early in the game you may snatch some of them. I always go for the research facilities early on, because once you have superior research abilities you can advance so much quicker. You may just be going the wrong route early in the game, and so lag behind i

I normally will be using around 1.6GB of ram in a game on a huge map. I have 3 GB now, by the way. I upped it from 2GB just to see what would happen, but the mem usage has remained around 1.6GB. So, no, your 2GB is the sweet spot, not overkill. Butcherski, your ram and video card are way under par. Make sure you turn off some video options, like anti-aliasing and maybe some of the textures in the Options-Video screen. It may help

The S determines which race it belongs to. S0_ is Terran, for example. S100_ is the Bonus material, I believe. S99_ will let the ship be used by any race. So if you want content to only be available to one particular race, you can use that race's number in the file name. And there is always an underscore after the number, don't forget. You can access the modding guide here: https://www.galciv2.com/Databanks.aspx

Another way is the Governers screen. There, you can select all of a certain type of ship being built on the left side, select NONE on the right side, and click the update button. It will set them all at once to stop building ships. I have the same problem as you, and this method has never failed me yet.

There are a few ways, depending on which files are being used. Some people upload the .X model files, some a .shipcfg file along with a .shipclass file or .XML file. In the latter case, the files go into your My Documents\Games\GalCiv2\Ships folder. Then they will be found in the ship builder window, either as a ship that can be upgraded - like the Klingon series of ships - or as jewelry that can be used with Kryo's Hull System Mod. The .X m

I have had two starports show up after taking a planet too. The strangest thing, though, happened just yesterday. In a new game, just after colonizing my third or fourth planet, I lost the starport on my own homeworld. It simply vanished and the starport icon was back in the building list. So I actually had to build a starport on my homeworld. Rebuild, that is.

You need to make a fleet to see it the way you want to. Single ship combat remains on the main screen, and fleet combat goes to the combat viewer. To make a fleet you overlap two or more ships and then click on them. Select all the ships and click the Make Fleet button.

Restaraunt of Eternity. Buy it early in the game. Put an embassy on each world, except for the really low PQ planets. Try to snag at least one influence resource instead of puttng in starbases. With that combination you should keep pretty much at the top of the influence tree. And adding modules to the resource starbase will yield far greater results than quite a few influence starbases.
