You can't change how they are distributed, but they are not always distributed like that. If you don't like it, press Control-n to start a new game and see if that one is more to your liking. Setting Paint Ownership to "1" in the MiniMap section of the prefs.ini will let you see all the races positions at the beginning of the game, to make it easier to get a layout that you like. Or, you can click the setting on the MiniMap itself in the game. I think it is the second down

OK. The e-mail is on the way with a save game file at the point it first started building the Ranger, and debug.err file of the entire game.

I don't have a save game that is during the time the problem was in effect, sorry. I just checked the Previous Auto Save, but the problem was not there. Perhaps because I had built two other ships on every planet since. Ya, give a killer ship to another race and they always throw them away attacking a fleet with just that single ship, instead of using it in their own fleet. The Terrans are better about that. I had given them one of my Brakiri Dreadnaughts, and they actually fleet

There are neutral races also. In the line up that I have used in the last couple of games there are 2 good, 2 evil, and 2 neutral races along with myself. It's not my fault they are all thinking more about war than knowledge. If going for knowledge early on works as a good strategy, I see no reason not to use it. It would probably work pretty much the same in the real world, too, you know. Knowledge is power, don't you know. And the higher the intelligence, the m

Maybe I should have put it in the game section. I really didn't mean for the dev's to pull their hair out over it. Unless it happens too often that is. I really kinda thought it was funny. I think on this next game I'll try the starbase thing again and see if they disappear again. Maybe I hit on just the right combination that brings out a quirk. It'll be fun to try and set it up again. But it sure is not as important as many of the memory issues that seemed to h

I actually tried neturality learning center, yeah it's better than a discovery sphere, but by then i was winning already. You have to build each one manually, I'm not sure if it's upgradable from the normal research improvements. Is 'rushing' to Good/evil/neutrality and exploiting their advantages a viable strategy? That is exactl

Two things occurred in this game that I have never seen before. The first thing was, the Terrans had just aquired a planet. One of those planets that come available and there is a vote to see who gets it. It happened to be on the other side of the galaxy from their territory, and quite close to mine and several others. I thought they would be swallowed up, so I built and outfitted both an economic and an influence starbase right next to the planet and gave them both to the Terrans. Su

That was a fleet of transports, not just one. I use fleets usually, too. Much easier than sending them in one at a time. Well, usually it is 10 or so transports fleeted up with 4 or 5 of my best ships for protection. And no, it was not crippling, just painful.

If you are still crashing with the release 1.1 you need to post a new debug.err. And, is it crashing under the same circumstances, or different? More details are much better for diagnosing problems. And please, take the time to punctuate correctly. It makes reading your post much easier.

Very few, if any, go for the advanced troops. I always have shock troops and the Tri-Quan before I attack a planet. My troop rating is usually in the 120-130 range, while theirs is around 30-50. Talk about a slaughter. I just had 2,000 troops wipe out 19,000 in my last game.

Either that or turn down the industrial output. That way the output will be there if and when you need it.

I have gotten I think 8 in a single game before. They just kept coming every few weeks. But I did not realize so many of them in a single game was possible, especially that early in the game.

My background star density is set down to 512. I set it there probably the first week I had the game. Nebula's are still set to 7. But I wonder if setting that star density down would be a workaround, if not the solution, for a lot of these type problems. I never seem to encounter most of them, and the relesase version of 1.1 has been 100% stable for me so far.

In my last game my starbases destroyed any enemy stupid enough to attack them. A fully loaded starbase takes something like 39 constructors. But to get the last couple requires researching pretty far into the regular defense and weapon techs. I think the max with just the starbase fortifications and defenses is 37 for the resource bases. The military base can take closer to 60. Then again, once I build my fleet, none of their starbases seem to survive. Either they do not fortify

There are ownership colors you can set for the mini-map. I think it is the second down on the left. You can also edit the Prefs.ini file to show them.

I agree that they are balanced pretty well. I do not miss the absent Neutral weapons or defenses, because I can research to the highest tech levels in a third the time as it is. I always have bigger and better when the time comes to build my fleets.

You and I use the same strategy. Heavy research to get the best ship, weapon and defense techs. No military until it is really called for. Then, BAM! I usually have enough money to buy 3-6 of the ships, and can turn out advanced transports daily from most planets. So, I get a quick fleet of attack ships and transports in a single turn. Then I proceed to take every planet of the race that declared war. No quarter, no peace. Usually. Sometimes I get soft hearted and give them peace

I have tried using the gigantic map also. But I have seen no problems yet with the release 1.1. In fact, it had been rock stable. I have had zero errors so far, which is a first. With all the other versions it would crash every so often, usually after repeated Control-N's trying to find just the right home planet. I wonder if the release is handling memory any differently. I have 3GB on this machine, and at least some of the posts are from people with 512MB saying the

And it is that way because it is a totally different branch in the tech tree. And changing one line might work if you do it at the right place, like upgrading after the Discovery Sphere. Any sooner and there will be a conflict with other upgrade paths. And by that point it is not worth nearly as much. The best way is to manually upgrade at the Acadamy level. That way you get the most increase for the money and time spent. And not wanting to do it just because you have to cy

Why would you ever launch a transport with less than the max number of troops loaded? Oh, I do on occasion, when I have already launched so many from that world that it s depleted. But it would be the last transport I launched from that world until the population had built up again. And I always send fleets of transports along with the attack ships, so one in the fleet with a lower compliment of troops makes little difference. And if you know how many you launch in the first

Well, it is not a problem everyone has anyway. I just started a new game on the gigantic map with all the races, myself as custom. I had no problem with either saves or quick saves.
