A word for those that buy Dell laptops: These computers are designed for different purposes. For instance, the Inspiron series are typically set up with cooling options designed to only kick the fans on when near critical temp. This makes them VERY poor systems for gaming. Buy the machine for the purpose you will use it for. In my opinion, there is no such thing as a great gaming laptop. You simply can't pack the power and cool it in that small of a space. E

If you want to play on gigantic or immense maps, I would suggest that you get a new computer. -- Celeron processors are intentionally underpowered (get what you pay for) -- Sis chipsets suck, and so do Via. -- XP uses about 200mb of memory just starting up. GalCiv can use 2000mb of mmeory. That leaves a pretty large deficit. Sorry I don't have better news.
Pitty. It would be cool to get such info.
Agreed.
Not unless you count the squares yourself before you set the destination.
You can press CTRL+G to toggle the grid if you want to use this method.
I do not know what you expect to hear. Mispelling in line xyz that made the game crash when clicking on an empty transport? Very interesting... I do not think there was a bug that caused the game to state "you are stupid!" and giving you eyecancer with flashing colors so i really cant imagine an "interesting bug".
Perhaps you are not a programmer then. Never the less, I would like to hear what Brad will say.
You can wait the 5 minutes. Sorry man, that machine just isn't going to cut it for high speed gaming. If you want to do someting simple to improve your performance, purchase another 512 MB of memory. Standard XP should never be run with less than 512.
If you would like to attempt a repair before you end up doing a clean install, you might find these links useful. Just a quick search for the info you seek: [link="http://azsmbitthoughts.blogspot.com/"]WWW Link[/link] [link="http://msmvps.com/blogs/athif/archive/2006/05/17/Error-0x80004002.aspx"]WWW Link[/link] [link="http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=589890"]WWW Link[/link] That should get you going in the generally right direction, though seriousl
May I humbly suggest that you perform a clean install of XP. Repair installs do not correct all problems, and can in fact cause them. I suggest this since it is honestly the fastest and simplest method of resolving your problem. The problem very likely lies with some dll's and registry keys missing from your system or improperly created/registered. This likely was not fixed with the repair install since it overwrote only parts of the system. That being said, if you still wis
Just by way of mentioning: Windows Update issues are always free support issues with MS. They don't charge for them.
Just out of curiosity, is your time set correctly with any applicable daylight savings updates installed? We shouldn't overlook the obvious, now should we?
Just a suggestion to the folks around here... It is my thought that much heartache could be avoided if a few words could be added to our vocabulary. If, perhaps, some were to suggest that an idea or feeling is just that, and idea or feeling, the response might be much more welcoming. For instance: 'Why such and such is the case...' could be rendered 'Why I think such and such is the case...' or perhaps: 'You idiot! Your view is stupid and you are too!'
I didn't find all that much use for spies in DA. Not sure why exactly, but just didn't see it as a useful activity in my games. I won just fine withou ever training a single spy. Now that I have the TA beta, I seem to be trainging and using spies constantly. I can't seem to get them fast enough, as they are incredibly handy. I am still using much the same strategies, but the game now seems to make it make sense to use them. Maybe even a necessity with the
Thanks for the confirmation. What about the second question?
Would this software happen to be something that those of us who don't buy pre-built computers would want to put on their own machines?
Excelent question. I highly doubt it in my case, as I tend to run very very lean. Stupid Vista memory hog.
You can manually change the settings by editing the file at ...\My Documents\My Games\GC2TwilightArnor\Prefs.ini There are three lines that interest you. DisplayWidth=xxxx DisplayHeight=xxxx FullScreen=0 // Change to 1 if you want it fullscreen. Not sure why only TA would give you trouble unless there is something else amiss in its prefs.ini file. Did you try using 'end task' on it and trying to start it again? Same result?
Did you wait for a while to see if it would load/wake up? Did you ever get windowed mode to work before? What are your system specs? You can change the display settings in the config file, but I don't recall off the top of my head where it is at. If I get time later, I'll look it up if no one beats me to it.
I think later this Summer when new PCs start shipping with our software included they'll see that we're not part of the problem but part of the solution. Let me put it this way, the PC OEMs have gotten the message about "craplets". They came to us to solve the problem, not exacerbate it. You'll see what I mean soon.
Maybe you should write a book on how to tease the customer. I'm starting to wonder if you majored in it;) As one who is seeking the same goal, I eagerly
I've been trying to figure out how I am to know who's spies I am nullifying all the time these days in TA. I figure you probably can't tell, but please do let me in on the secret if there is a way. Also, how do you look up what level of intel someone else has got on you? I should think that with an advanced (or maybe even high) level of intel on a race that is spying on you, you sould be able to tell what they've got on you as well. But then, wouldn't you be able to use
Can you please give us the version number for your game and the specs for your system?
Question for Brad: What's the most interesting bug you've squashed developing GalCivII? Just curious.
Just drag the slider the other direction ;)
BTW the people that suggest locking this thread are in essense agreeing with me that there is no place for religious or political threads in these forums. I have to assume that this agreement is unknowing (perhaps unwitting is more apt) since otherwise they seem to be in complete disagreement.
Or perhaps causing such an argument in a thread about not wanting to partake in such arguments is ridiculous. It in fact rather illustrates the point as to why we can't just 'not r
Why doesn't someone lock this thread? It's just as bad as the other one, and the issue could have, and should have, been handled with a pm to the Moderators.
I second this motion. Please lock this thread.
Thank you kryo. None too soon.
Heh, it's a wonder that I can dress myself in the morning and not shock everyone with clashing colors. I guess that's why I normally stick to one color and the rest neutrals. Might be boring, but at least I don't look silly.
I don't think I ever give it much thought. Good thing my wife dresses me.
I was asking for confirmation (I'm too lazy right now to load a game and check) that the trade ships keep the look you gave them when they are actually running the route after it is set up. Or is that not what you were talking about to begin with?
