I used to drop everything to take out whoever got that artifact then one game I ignored it without any appreciable difference in that race performance. This was in version 1.0 & 1.1 I haven't seen it in 1.2 yet. As for running out of population I will take several planets with farm bonus tiles (the higher the better) and use them as transport production. Once you have 20+ billion its hard to drain them down.

Well I have them pressed back into a corner and their economy is in shambles, I have gone through all their territory and they don't have and it looks like they never did have any military resources so I don't know how they managed those ships unless its the bonuses they get on this level(this is my second game at this level). Good thing about this is I have most of the tech tree completed without having done the research. I've stolen just about everything from the Korx. Main
Master UAugust 7, 2006 18:28:11Reply #10Holy Carp! design some small ships with mass driver defense and beam for attack. make sure you research the last miniaturization At the time the Korx attacked I had mediums with photon III and 20 Armour defense, large with antimatter I and 60 Armour defense and devastated the Korx fleets and took aroun
Check out my post which will show the AI does build defensive ships WWW Link
(Citizen)TertullianAugust 7, 2006 08:30:41Reply #4Hit this guy with a raiding party of 8-10 small ships loaded up with lasers and he is totally toasted. Bye-bye super-dreadnought. This type of ship, while a pain to deal with is not the real problem the Korx are also escorting their transports with escorts that have a 100+ attack. A
Been Running into these in my current game gigantic/masochist. Don't know how the AI managed it.
best bang for our money would be to bump your ram up to 1 gig its the most effective for the least cost.
(Citizen)Master UAugust 4, 2006 12:31:10Reply #104wow, I glad i'm not the only one here that is below 20... GalCIv II is for adults? LOL its just that most of us old timers have been gamming since we were your age. For me the first console game I played was pong in seventies followed by Space Invaders and bought my first PC in 1989. So even tho
(Citizen)MascrinthusAugust 1, 2006 16:08:37Reply #1I thought players stopped using armed cargo hulls when the first strike advantage was mostly taken away. I see how a fast armed cargo hull ship would be effective in the early game. I my games set on very fast research, Warp drive has already been reached by most players by the time the first war breaks out (started by me)
I frequently find that the AI will stockmarkets on approval tiles
Or go to the shipyard option and design your own, you will be far better off then using the stock ships.
Early on I will research mass drivers and give/trade/sell the tech to the AI so most of them will then go MD and I generally go Beam early to late midgame. Once the AIs adapt to my beam weapons I will then switch Missiles. Some games I've switched weapons/defense as many as 5 time to keep that edge over the AI. I dislike mass drivers because once you have the nano ripper you have to go up to nearly neutrino bullets for something that does as much damage.
Yes the random events were where the natural disasters such as famine, meteor hits and other acts of nature happened with way to much frequency in V1.0. Now in V1.2 they gone to the other extreme and they rarely happen now.
The 2nd game I played I lost several votes and went bankrupt... of course I had no ideas what the hell I was doing then. Now any PQ 10 and above has the minimum of 15 billion and PQ 20 and above are 30 plus billion with a 100% approval.
They really should have a screen shot button Its a real pain having to hit print screen then copy it, especially when you want to take multiple shots
Personally I don't really care about my MV score I post my games just to keep track of them and if there was a way to do that without the MV I would. Of course I don't really mind that I keep climbing higher with each game I post.
In my last game I was under attack by the Dregin and the Arcean at the same time with the Korx joining in about ten turns latter. They were running their fleets through my territory unchecked but it doesn't matter how many fleets the AI has in your territory if you killed all their transports. For this purpose I use a large hull with enough engines to make at least 30 PC, 4 defense module, 1 weapon, and the rest Life support. They will take out a transport with 5 to 6

I always use them its not hard to keep morale up with low taxes and with huge populations you dont need high taxes. Of course it dont hurt to have a morale starbase or two, harmony crystal etc. On the ocasion morale does become an issue building a troop ship with 4 advance troop modules will bring the population down real quick. Of course this is the main reason why I will build a farm on every pq 10 and above is to have the population to stuff into troop ships in times of war without
the problem with having 1 fleet to defend an entire sector instead of having a bunch spread out to defend planets individually is that: if the enemy attack at 2 points, then you might attack 1, but the enemy will likely get the other. or say they attack at 3, what do you do then? i prefer ships stationed at all planets and bases. they may cost a bit, but if you got your ec
I like that sometimes it can get very repetitive playing Gigantic/military conquest to invade and conquer every last world.
You know I love this game but this forum code blows chunks. I had type long anwser to your post but the quotes kept getting borked so I'm not wasting anymore time on it. with regards to 1. The AI has been doing that since 1.0 on gigantic.
Its beens some time since I've stolen a tech other then through invasion. It alway was a rare occurrence but Its probably because I out research the AI now. The main reason to invest in espionage is not tech stealing its to get access on the AI ship techs, planets etc.
It is very expensive to upgrade a ship. Unless the ship has levelled up a lot (less likely with v1.2) or you have money to burn, it is better just to build a new one. By midgame I always have money to burn and as long as it not a real drastic upgrade its not that expensive. Example an upgrade for mediums cost 206BC x 30 mediums = 61
