I perfer missles/beam combination over strait mass drivers and with some minturization techs space really is not an issue. I found a fleet of 4-5 mediums with 3 Harpon III or better and armour will take out just about anything the AI throughs at you on normal anyway.

I always used to look at minor races as a free planet but lately I've been using them as trading partners if they are in my territory. My current game has 4 minor races in area of infulence and all my trade routes run to them which is turning out to be a hell of lot more secure then routes with majors. The ankillain or someting like that I still toast on sight since they always plant an influence base next to my homeworld.
It happens to mr on a regular basis in the early to midgame, I find I tend to ignore it only going so far as to place some sensor ship in their direction just in case. Hell I once had the Korx declare war on three time without ever attacking. I play at normal, gigantic, with various setting on stars, plantes etc.
Hehe, its fun to see I am not alone. Doesn't seem that one race is particularly reviled over other though, I guess they are disliked about equally. How you can you like the Torians though, Hobbes, how!?!? I don't understand why so many people dislike them, they always allies with me when I want them t
For me its the Krox, Drath, Altarians (every time I had and alliance with them I apparently hit on their leaders Mistress and we end up at war) oh lets not forget those snotty buggers the Iconians. Races I like are the Torians, Thalans & Terrans Races I'm neutral about Dregin and the Yor
Ive gotton that to after a 00 tie the planet defaults to the original owner and clicking on the planet show 10B pop. I found though that double clicking on the planet to bring up the management screen will show the correct pop of .10b
I always use mass drivers near the end because I just want to take the AI's planets as quickly as possible with the least amount of transports to force a surrender. After all the game will be over before you get those planets online anyway and sometimes I will use an empty transport to pickup the population and destroy the colony on a world I just took to keep maintenances cost down. I used this tatic in my last game a "Battle of the Gods"
Belive me you dont want to deal with their battle fleet, cost me 19 medium ships to take them out when they showed up in the middle of my core worlds. Where pirates got hold of 2 battleships with plasma II weapons is still under investigation. They show up in my games on a regular basis but they ususal are not much of a problem or they are someone else's problem. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Smile.gif" border=0 ALIGN
I'm currently playing my first BOG game on normal, gigantic map, 9 races. There are just the Torians, Arceans & the Drath left and me. All the races that surrendered did so to the Drath which has given them incredible influence for the map and flipped a class 19 planet of mine that was just coming online production and economically. So I go storming in and retake it from them only to have it flip back to them 2 turns later. (takes a lot ti
