Why the heck are you using a card that is like, 7 years old? Is it PCI, too? You need to bite the bullet, and get a decent AGP (at least) card. If your motherboard doesn't support at least 4X AGP, then you really need to look at getting a new computer.. or give the game to somebody else that can actually run it.

Actually, all our inferences, hypothesis, and theories are all hypothetical models that gives us something to "work with" and may or may not have any 'truer' glimpse into the 'real' reality than any other. While some ideas can be tested and proven, you can never say "this is the truth", because you usually can not observe the underlying causitive agent. You can't see gravity. Anybody who says so is an idiot. We observe the effects of gravity on objects (including ourselves). It's
OK... Let's delineate the differences between alpha and beta releases: ALPHA- The first run copies of any game are considered Alpha. The may or may not include ALL the game engine and features. Alphas are almost always completely in-house, and are mainly used to look at graphics, test various features and limited play-testing of areas. Alphas are primarily used to find and correct 'glaring'(ie, obvious or game-stopping in normal play) bugs and glitches. BETA- Betas are generally 'cleaned-u
I personally think the values assigned to the 'ethical dilemma's' in the game are overly weighted toward evil. It takes 3 major good events (with the corresponding penalties) to balance out some minor evil choice. The Good ethic does NOT reward players (properly) IMO. There is no real incentive to suffer through all the 'penalties' so you can earn a Good alignment, when you can choose evil in every choice and it only cost you 2500 bc's to change it. I do think good should receive mor
Ok. I'll revise and extend this: Conversion for races: Arceans > Narn Drengin > Drakh Korx > Centari Altarians > Mimbari Drath > Poc'morah Torians > Drazi Iconians > SoulCatchers Thalan > Gaim Yor > Strieb Terran > Earth Alliance Dread Lords (1) > Vorlons Dread Lords (2) > Shadows United Planets > The Interstellar Alliance Minor Races > League of Non-Allied Worlds As a side note:<
Smitty, The total money for military and social TOGETHER is 'spent' in the factories, which are 'converted' to MPs, which are then divided into the ratios you set via the sliders. One other thing to remember is that if social is not being used (nothing being built on your planet), it will be "refunded" (at a small loss) to the military. If military is not being used either, You DO NOT get charged for that planet (besides the normal maintenance fee's, of course). So, you onl
Conversion for races: Arceans > Narn Drengin > Drakh Korx > Centari Altarians > Mimbari Drath > Poc'morah Torians > Drazi Iconians > SoulCatchers Dread Lords (1) > Vorlons Dread Lords (2) > Shadows United Planets > Alliance Minor Races > League of Non-Allied Worlds Soon we'll be speaking of the 'Drazi' spam. "AHHHHhhh.. Mr. GariBALDI !!!"
Smitty, Think of it this way.. Military is spent only on constructing SHIPS, Social is spent on constructing BUILDINGS. Labs only do RESEARCH. Basically, all the Individual sliders do is proportion the amount of (milit/social) money that generates MPs (manufacturing points) that are 'spent' each turn. Research is spent in labs to generate RPs (research points). So lets suppose you have enough factories to produce 50 MP and enough labs to produce 30 RPs. Further, we'll sa
I *personally* reserve the word 'fanboy' to describe those poor souls who hold a biased point-of-view on a subject that can not be swayed or changed, no matter the logic or proof that is used to explain otherwise (especially when they're wrong ). For example: User 1: Stardock SUX! This game won't run on my comp (uter) . They released a buggy, POS game. User2: What
Probably some RTS'er who's use to pwning those brain-dead AI's with 'Mighty Mouse'... HA! Your mouse is no match for my mind kung fu!
To UberTaco: I wouldn't follow much of that advice Rripperr. Especailly the bit about farms on bonus tiles. That's the only place to put them on your high PQ planets. On low PQ planets there isn't even a point to building farms anyway. Did I not put the farm in parenthesis and add 'for 14+ PQ'? Also, your 'observation' about t
@ Jim48 Ok, first off-start a new game. Normal Difficulty, 7-9 races, huge galaxy, Abundant Anomolies, and select any alien race (try the Yor). The FIRST TURN is actually one of the most crucial in the game, so pay attention.. You'll start off first with your first choice of research, go ahead and choose the first (and fastest) choice you're usually given (probably Xeno labs or Propulsion, depending on the alien race). Next, your homeworld..
I find it more useful to set the sliders to 22-23% Military / 26-27% Social / 50% Reasearch for the 1st year (maybe 2). Since you're mainly going to be building colony ships and building colonies, this can actually get very expensive too early in the game. Setting the slider more towards the research in the early game not only gives you a big head-start in the tech race, it actually SAVES money from being spent (at a higher cost) on the industrial side. Social is also key in the beginning, bec
You know when.. .. you start naming the tree's in the yard with "Bradell", "Arcea", and "Iconia" among others.. .. you use a digital camera and PhotoShop to substitute the less "favored" of your family and friends for the alien race portraits.. .. you start listening to the evening news and wonder how much "social" money was wasted.. .. you realize the AI in the game is more logical and entertaining then most of the people you know.. <img src="htt
As a matter of fact, yes it does. My version is showing the Terrans with a negative (like too many abilities) skills total. I thought I had read a while back that Brad had re-adjusted all the races to 'better balance' them. Hmmm.. Maybe I'll just delete my character for now and wait for 1.1..
If you have the Production to spare, you could make some med. power fighters (make sure you can counter them) and 'gift' them to the Altarians through the diplo screen. If you give them enough (around 10-20), the Drath will probably become paranoid and start attacking them. Of course, this also carries the risk that they might attack YOU if your not on good terms with them. P.S. You might get nicer replies if you leave the wor
I am using Beta4.15 and playing as (default) humans at beginner level on a large map with 6 opponents set for random intellegence and random races. I have NEVER enabled cheats on this program. I have won 2 influence victories with a neutral alignment each time. The first time I did set the research rate to FAST, but I did not do this the second time. Any help would be appreciated.
You should be able to play the game just fine without registering your copy via online connection. However, you can't play BETA patches without online conection. Right now, 1.0x is the only official release patch available.
You can't download BETA's with out an Internet Connection (via StarDock Central). HOWEVER, they should be posting the 1.1(final) patch to THIS site once it is finished. Right now, the 1.0x is the only official patch available. P.S. You might need to bring your serial # with you to download the patch, once it is posted.(Hopefully, next week)
I have played it from 1.0x to Beta 3.14 and I've only experienced ONE CTD playing an average of 4-5 hrs a day for over a month. This game (for me) has been one of the LEAST bugged I have ever had the pleasure to purchase and help Beta test. GROW UP! If you truly feel you have a legitimate complaint, you need to be SPECIFIC. You need to post the debug.err file. Otherwise, you're simply trolling and you're going to get flamed fo
OK. The reason why I asked is because the message you included looks like it can't locate some files. Did you update to a beta version between video card swapping? If nothing else, you can always uninstall and re-install the game. That usually takes care of any anomalies in data paths, .inf files etc. I hope this helps.
Can you post the last 10-12 lines of you debug.err file, please?
You're video drivers for your card are severely outdated (circa 2002). You need to go here Link and download the latest drivers. Once you update them, it should work just fine (since I use the same card ).
YOU ARE TRYING TO PLAY THIS GAME AT 1600 X 1200? ON A GEFORCE 3 W / 64MB? Am I the only one who sees something wrong with this picture?
It always surprises me how many people try to run these game, when they barely meet the minimum required specs (if they even bothered to read them..), and complain so loud and vociferously that the game is "bugged" because it turns into a slide-show when they're trying to play a huge/gigantic map with a 800 mhz Celeron and a 32 MB GeForce 4000 MX. Sigh.. Bigger maps require more computational resources that rise in an exp
