I started out with a crappy start on a large map. I had like 5 planets where the computer players had around 10. I dug in with tons of military starbases and researched my heart out for a long, long time. Thankfully, no one messed with me because they all had their own little wars to deal with. At least, they didn't until the end, when two races got together and started taking out my combat starbases one by one... But they were too late Mwah

Well, actually, consoles are computers. Heck, my xbox has more processor power than my desktop at present. -Dewar

I've been playing on large and huge maps with all 10 players, and I've had a few minors with no issues. I've also had a few pop up during the game. Dang Independant Leauge! -Dewar

Once you establish the route, those freighters are supposedly owned by super-corps, not by your goverment. I assume that the super-corps repurpose them. -Dewar

The influence map isn't updated right away some of the time, but upgrading an influence starbase seems to force it to update. So, if the Torians had done something to increase their influence (mining an influence resource, changing governments, etc) and the map hadn't updated yet, upgrading your influence bases might have forced it to update the map? That's my only idea. I've had something similar happen before, but not this extreme. <b

Personally, I put an orbital fleet manager on every single one of my planets, so I don't have to worry about it later. The computer does about the same. -Derek K Harwell

Every AI improvement has been a welcome attack at my common playstyles. The tech brokering thing doesn't work near as well now, which is nice since the races have more unique tech paths. Also, the emphasis on speed rather than range has really put a damper on my high-speed strike forces. I can't knife in and destroy all their resource starbases in a couple of turns anymore. Evolving AI rocks Oh and this... float pShip->TurnsToReachPoint(ulTileX,ulTileY); Will tell the AI wh

The error could also come from a failing hard drive or RAM, depending on how the installer is verifying the files. I've found it fairly rare that the CD is at fault with errors like that. -Dewar

After an event that shifted the Dengrin ideology, they called me up and the greeting was "May love and peace save you!" (I was evil at the time) or something to that effect. It had me laughing so hard. I would have killed them all if they were anywhere near me. -Dewar

It seems to be a growing trend to put files in the My Documents folder. I'm not saying that I agree with it, but it's sort of the "in thing."

Here's a different way of saying the same thing just in case that didn't make sense (I found it a bit hard to read myself.) Each RC gives you an additional 12 beakers per turn capacity. In order to use all that capacity, your Industrial Capacity slider and your Research Spending slider must both be at 100%. Otherwise, you're using just a fraction of the capacity. So, for a mathmatical example, if you have 5 RCs, that gives you a total capacity of 60 beakers. If your spendin

The AI will also sell buildings on a planet if it thinks you're going to take it over, so if you take a planet from the computer, it doesn't necessesarily have the same buildings on it as when it was in full use. -Dewar

Well, low morale is very very bad. It makes your planets easier to conquer with Information Warfare, it makes your government choices slim to none, and there's always a chance your planets will revolt and become a minor civilization. Trust me, it's not that big of an exploit. -Dewar

I wish there was a switch that made stock ships not even be buildable. Whenever I reach a new tech level I have to go and obsolete all the stock ships. -Dewar

You'd be better off axing the defences and making a first strike fleet. Do so much damage that nothing survives the first volley.... But it's still a hell of a money risk. -Dewar

tetleytea: In some ways yes, unless you're trading with allies that let you build econ starbases in their space. What I like to is take my econ capital and build all my freighters there and send them to different places in the galaxy. Since all the routes are starting in the same place, it's easier to get econ starbase coverage, at least at the start of the route. -Dewar

Influence starbases raise your influence value in the area of effect, so if you have a planet of yours that's about to flip to an enemy, build it right next to it. If there's an enemy planet that you want to flip to your side, build it as close to that enemy planet as possible, while still defending it. Econ starbases only help your routes. If you look along each of your routes, there is a little freighter running back and forth. The econ starbase does it's work when the little freigh

I got two rangers in my very first full game. I basically conquered a whole race with just the two of them and the necessary troop transports. Since then, I haven't seen one. *shrug* -Dewar

Population is decreased by making troop transports or colony ships, but even if the population goes to zero you still own the planet unless someone comes by and conquers it. Otherwise, could be a bug, could be a reload problem. -Dewar

I like #1 a lot, because it fits into the current espionage system (and therefore might make it before the first expansion.) I think #2 is a bit lame. It's not horrible certainly, but I can think of better ways for devs to spend their time. And finally, I think #3 should be built into diplomacy rather than espionage. You can already buy and sell influence (which is the equivelence of UP votes,) so we just need some way to see the voting topic a month or two ahead of time. Frankly, I
