Getting Lucky?

Is anyone else exceptionally lucky in getting Rangers?

I've been getting several of these every time I play the game. Given the devastating effect of advanced technology in the wrong hands(my hands) I think these should be a little more difficult to get.

Don't get me wrong, bringing death and destruction is great and all that, but it can unbalance the game to the point of victory....

I have yet to get one or see the AI get them in any of my games--guess I just have bad luck

I got two rangers in my very first full game. I basically conquered a whole race with just the two of them and the necessary troop transports. Since then, I haven't seen one. *shrug*

Certain political parties have "Luck" as one of thier "abilities". If you then also buy another "Luck" ability level you really up your odd's of getting Rangers. I almost always try to have max Luck, gotta love Rangers

I havent gotten any rangers, however, 12 appeared in one game, I built a ship clas i called "Texas" which had tons of armor, and then 1 beam weapon (doom ray since i Had maxed out that tree)

I've never personally gotten my own ranger, however I did trade Enhanced Miniaturization and 100BC or so to get one from a friendly race. I then proceeded to conquer said race from within...Silly Yor, so trusting...

i had 3 in 20 turns one game hehe unfortunately everyone was beam weapon so i had to escort them with a bunch of other vessels and always made sure they were on the offensive

I was playing a game and the Drengin got a Ranger. Three turns later they gave it to me to help in my war against the Arceans. So, I used that Ranger to attack and destroy the Drengin.

During my first non-campaign game I was literally swamped with Rangers. I would have lost the game to the Drengin and the Korx if it weren't for the fleets of rangers that I had babysitting my empire until I managed to build my own large hulled ships to take the fight to them.

I think at the end of the game I had over 12 rangers, after losing 4 or 5 of them to combat. It did seem pretty strange that I kept finding them.

I had a game where I found three and an AI race found two.

But it was so late in the game that my production ships were already better (Ah, large hulls with four nanorippers...).

I had four Rangers show up in a game, none were given to me. I've always bribed the civ that got them, and, at least on "Simple" they seem to be WAY willing to hand over a tech that I'll use to spank them. I mean, < 10,000 bc and all their base are belong to me. :-/

(sorry for the follow up, but just gotta say it): The Arceans sold me a ranger for 8000bc. But they won't trade my best planet for Laser I.

I get them all the time. I believe I have at least 9 in the tough large sized game I am working on now.

I have lucky +50 though by spending a point on luck and choosing universalists.

I have had one found by the AI in perhaps my first game, but haven't had one yet myself, or have one appear since...

I've gotten one Ranger the entire time I've played, but I have gotten a fair share of +700 manufacturing squares. It could be because I select +PQ ability, and not luck. Seems like yet another misnomer in the game--Luck is NOT +25%.

I always play as "Lucky" (the Ability + the political party) and I usually just get one Ranger (on Large, slow tech maps).
