You can debate if the revenue from trade is or isn't enough, but the relationship benefits are worth a lot. Personally I see it as a freighter making up it's initial cost in a dozen turns or so, and everything after that is just free money.
Monkey Pants
I've seen the AI players make, break, and honour alliances. It's not very common (especially with my constant undermining of them ) but I see AI-AI alliances quite often in long enough games. Sometimes they're not smart about honouring them, though. A weak Torian race was allied with the Altarians, who I attacked. The Torians declared war on me at tha
The "Sexy Women" race? you gimp. lol Other than that, good going. I'm doing something similar myself. Time for Optimus Prime to lay some beatings down on Megat
Well they could introduce an even easier level where everyone just surrenders to you as soon as they meet you. Of course, some simpleton would probably still lose somehow and make a forum post about how the AI cheats. (completely ignoring outrageous slur on someone's girlfriend...)
Personally I'm offended by the way that Stardock have excluded Pluto from the game. Taking such an obvious stance on the "is it or isn't it a planet" debate by deliberately erxcluding it, and brainwashing all of their customers is just disgusting. <img src="http://ima
Wow. You know you've been playing too much when you describe yourself in terms of racial ability bonuses. Here's hoping you don't have a 50% minaturisation bonus..... <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Cool.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absmiddl
I don't know. I have to make a concious effort to take resources early on because the AI guys always seem over eager to gert them. Admittedly they don't defend them well until later in the game, though. However, playing with the 1.1beta today, starbases seem to be very high priority targets from now on.
BigBadBlue - I sure hope that post was a joke I didn't get. You know, we've come a long way at telling the colours of stuff emitting light in colours we can't see. How else would we know about infra-red? ultra-violet? Using human eyes for this sort of this is so passe with things like, oh i don't know, the hubble telescope. Our own Sun chucks out tons of light in
and telling us we should revolt and become americans I think you got your words messed up there. You surely meant "we should become revolting americans" I think influence starbases should have a h
600BC/month? Pah, I've got well into 4 figures. Pick a healthy route (or two of they're very close), and send all your freighters there. Lay down a dozen or two ecomony starbases along the far end of the route, and the figures just multiply up and up. Of course, with the benefit comes an enormous risk. Anything bad happens, and your entire
Well I guess that's why it's called a beta. Anyway, if you want someone to take note of your issue, there's a big sticky thread for reporting beta 1.1 issues, I suggest you read the instructions there and post the relevant info. The guys can only fix what they can read, and they can't read every single thread. (Well they could, but they then wouldn't
To make the most money, trade routes should: -go a long way -go to/from high pop/economy worlds -go through the path of economy starbases with the appropriate modules. Since revenue increases at distance along the trade route path, the starbases should be as far out as you cna manage, while still covering enough routes. Beyond that? Research trade techs and have the appropriate abilities I guess.
OK I know you've kissed and made up now, and that's nice of you. (so just ignore the next comment ) ...I get a real kick from these sorts of posts. "OMG I got beaten. The AI must cheat and do all sorts of stuff omg! *I* personally cannot do [XYZ] therefore [XYZ] is impossible under all known laws of physics! I can't believe the game is so broken and bug
I've never had to have them defended before unless they were a few squares away from someone I was at war with. But - now I'll have to from now on. Awesome! Anyway, does this desire to be beaten senseless mean that we're sick in the head or something?
It would be easier for the devs to find your report if you posted it in the big sticky 1.1 BETA bug thread.
While I didn't lose my first game in the new beta, I came close! Medium sized map with abundant planets so it was pretty cramped. Out of nowhere the Arceans declared war on me and sent out an enormous fleet of troops transports all in one turn. I went "WTF is going on?" when I saw 4 planets fall before I even knew there was war. We were getting on so well! And another 4 or 5 troop transports mid-travel to undefended planets. Not your run of
Not that it matters nmuch ow that 1.1 is coming, but it was always possible to see what type of resource an occupied base was. Even without advanced espionage you could just zoom right in and see the resource sitting in the middle of the starbase.
Loving the beta 1.1 The biggest change for me that I've not seen mentioned by anyone else? Colour-coded resource icons in zoomed out mode! Yes! I spend most of my time zoomed out, and that is such an improvement for something so trivial. All the new game settings seem great, and the improved ship builder is just awesome. And not having to micromanage minimising social wastage? Woo!
Weird, I'm sure I didn't select red. Anyway, bug number two - ship getting stuck between grid segments (ie on the lines, instead of in the cells) To repro: 1) Make ship with a high speed (20 or so) just to give you time to pull it off 2) set it on a long diagonal path 3) while it's moving, click onto another ship. The ship will stop where it is, even if it's not in a cell at the time. Same system as
Ship designer bug - PLASMA weapons 50x bigger than the ship! Quite fun as bugs go. To repro: 1) start new ship 2) add plasma III (for example) 3) click to select plasma III 4) rotate weapon 5 weapon is bigger than the ship! Start of debug.err for what it's worth -=-=-=-=- Debug Message: Version v1.
Nobody forces you to take a planet! If you don't have a healthy enough economy to build up and defend another planet, don't do it. You must have been running pretty close to the wire for a single planet to bankrupt you. Before even consider advancing on, never mind taking a planet, always make sure you have either a big cash reserve (10,000+) or a healthy net income (200bc/month or more). As was said above, you always had the chance of selli
Technicially theres a bald female with horn-things coming out of her head, but...I guess that's not very human-like I don't know.... many females that I've had the displeasure to know do.
800x600? Wow. Even the budget monitor of my first PC purchsed over 10 years ago did 1024x768! IS it made from wood and grass or something? Anyway, in your prefs.ini file try playing with the displayheigtht/width settings, fullscreen setting, and set hardwaremousecursor to 1 to see if it gets your mouse working. Really though you'd be lucky to get it working, you fall short of the published MINIMUM specs. And if the PC is half as o
It would be nice if you could attack with multiple fleets at the same time against a powerful fleet, but then it'd remove the whole point of having fleets. Single fleets only, unfortunately. With them so much more powerful, killing you in one shot, there's only one way you can fight back. 1) Put nothing on but enough weapons to kill one of their ships in a single shot (everything else is a waste of money and build time) 2) Be
"BEST" games is just a matter of opinion. Scattered stars give everyone lots of room to do their thing without getting in each others way. Tight clusters will see players in small groups fighting over small areas, probably leading to one victor in each cluster early on, leading to a smalle rnumber of large remote empires later on. Neither's better, they're just different. Everyone at arms length out in the open vs. a co
