On small maps you can set up all your routes with one preferred neighbour and totally swamp the entire trade route with maxed out econ starbases start to finish. Doing that I easily quadrupled my weekly income at least. You get a pretty loyal and rich partner, too.

MAybe a silly question but........ have you changed the game resolution to be less than your screen resolution?

No problems playing on my laptops with Synaptics touchpad/driver and I also run 99% of the time in window mode.. As with Mr D, I can only suggest checking for new drivers. Go directly to synaptics rather than your laptop maker, since in they're anything like Acer they're normally a few revisions behind. Since drivers run in kernel mode though, it might not even be the touchpad driver failing, but another one pooping all over it's memory space. Update your gfx and sound drivers while y

I like how this arguement goes... Side A: I think the Yor are overpowered! Minaturisation is powerful Side B: I don't. Beides, they're very crippled diplomatically which makes up for it. In my experience they're no better or worse than anyone else. Side A: WHY DO YOU LOVE MAKING THIS GAME UNBALANCED AND BROKEN??? OMG!!! STOP DELIBERATELY MAKNIG THE GAME UNBALANCED! Side B: Errr.... ok..... Se

That was a design decision. Thing is, it's exploitable whichever way they worked it. Imagine if the bad effects of invasion tactics took effect even if you failed... ...wait for a planet to go undefended for a turn. Put 1 single guy in a 50 engine troop transport, zip across the map, use the most devestating effect, destroy everything on their entire planet and halve it's quality. Uh oh.

I just realised that we need to add a Doom3-like subgame to the game when we board ships in the OBVIOUSLY missing tactical battle. By not putting this in, Stardock are showing how evil they are by missing out on the obvious and very simple feature! I paid a few $ for the game, and therefore now have the right to demand that they spend millions changing the game in to swometing that it isn't. Oh, I also want another part where I play the comm

1) Weeks required to research * 100??? That's just insane. Any non-trivial tech would just never transfer before the end of a game. 2) That limits tech trading to early techs in late game, nothing else is possible. You could only ever trade techs that you could research in a turn or less, and remove your ability to research for a week... so why not just research it? That makes it utterly pointless. What would be a better mid

Well there are newer nVidia & sound drivers out, also try setting your regional setting to US english, and you won't know if it'll sort things out unless you actually try it, will you? I bet it will.

Can't see this post? Update your video drivers... How dare you say that to me? I am the uber-elite omg wow computer guru and know more about these here computer thingamys than Bill Gates!!! Obviously the crashes to desktop I get in the forum when using my 10 year old overclocked video card

I mean, mini-soldiers are fine and all, but why oh why must we have flesh and blood troops by the billions? Because it's common knowledge that you're never a REAL leader until you manage to get your people to die in the name of a war they never wanted and know little about. <img src="http://images.s

If you REALLY have to have your custom race have the abilities of the Yor, just edit the XML race file. Sure it's a bit of a pain, but if the thought of one particular ability not being available to you is driving you to the point of murdering babies, go for it. It takes all of 2 mintues in notepad. As for them being inherently overpowered, no I don't think it's the "clearly they are" issue you're saying it is. I've NEVER had a single game w

OK so it happens to the best of us - that invasion fleet is a few parsecs away and you've got nothing to defend with that'll get there in time. What do you do? Just let it happen. Oh well, stick happens. Hope that when they invade they screw up the planet enough to take some of it's usefulness away. Abandon ship (then sink it)! Since it's likely an outpost under threat, it's more than possible you have troop transports to hand. Fo

If they're tucked away safely in the centre of my empire they go research only. Anywhere else they go military production only. If it's still too low to make a real difference in your military output, put it to use making constructors to help service the rest of your empire.

It's amazing really. I've never seen ther Yor as being overpower at all. Much the opposite, they're normally one of the first 2 or 3 to be wiped off the map. Maybe it's because I take diplomatic control of most of my games and they fail miserably at that? Probably. As has been said about, different player styles make the game go down different paths, and that affects how things turn out, what other races thrive or fail is a result of how you influce the game yourself. Personally my bi

It may be deliberate rather than a bug. I take over a PQ10 planet with my PQ bonus race, it becomes PQ11. Another race with a PQ bonus takes it from me - it becomes PQ12. Repeat ad nauseum. Alternatively abandon the planet, give to a race you're at war with, invade the empty planet, and repeat. Not saying that that is the case, just that there are several possibilities other than "it's a bug" <img src="http://images.stardock.com/g

Thank you, captain obvious. However the first and most obvious complaint in your post "it crashes every 15 minutes" is mostly if not entirely down to yourself. Unfortunately Stardock are not able to remotely keep your drivers at least halfway up-to-date, and I'm sure you'd complain if they broke into your house to do so while you were sleeping. I've been playing it since the first day and I have encountered exactly zero crashes.<b

Personally I find it annoying (it makes specialised planets impractical), but it doesn't ruin the game for me, and it's not an overall hinderance, since the AI faces the exact same limits. I'd like to have a 100% research planet tucked away safe in my empire, 100% military production planets facing the enemy, and 100% social production planets that are being developed or upgraded. Unfortunate that I have to have them all running at 33/33/33

Well your graphics card driver is a year old. Your soundcard driver is over 2 years old (and Live cards have caused me more compatability problems than anything else in the histroy of PC ownership. CLabs went rapidly downhill after the AWE32). Updating those would be a good place to start. You don't exactly have a great gaming PC there, but with up-to-date drivers you'll probably be stable.

About the StarForce admin posting a link to a torrentsite that's something that most people can find anyway....if he had said: "well, GalCiv II doesn't have our protection and is getting pirated" then people would probably tell him to show some hard evidence. Now he did, and he gets blamed for it.... Nonsen

Depends. Buying direct from them gets them more money direct in the pocket. Buying from retail gives less cash in the pocket NOW, but raises the profile of the game, leading to more shelf space being given to the game, and for a longer period of time, more public awereness of the game, which hopefully leads to more sales/money down the line... Unless Frogboy or someone else at SD can give a clear answer, I don't think there's an obvious one

Starforce being immoral? Wow, now there's a first. Along with a few other select a**hole companies, they're on my list of "if someone asks me about products corrupted by them I will ALWAYS insist strongly to NOT give them any money at all. I'd rather see people pirate from them than give them so much as a penny. As consumers the only power we have is en masse with our wallets. Help clean up the industry by doing your best to put t
