Hey Fellow Diplomaniacs... err, I mean Diplomats. I note that we are very close to regaining 2nd place (about 45,000 points). That's good. I am getting farily good scores while keeping the game fun... on painful level and with huge and giant galaxies. And concerning snacks.... "may the forks be with you."

Well, I just finished my first 1.2 game. I like it. Makes more sense, and caused me to get defensive techs and add them to my ships sooner. Have a good one everybody! And remember... there is no "I" in "DIPLOMATS" .... oh .... wait.... nevermind.

Yep, I am getting ready to go the the core to post something right now. I could post it here, or there, or both. I think I'll just post it there.

In the galaxy setup described (evidently habitable planets somewhat rare) starbases are the way to go. You can piggyback clear across the galaxy using a chain of starbases, though I would research range imrovements as well. Its best if you can build on a resource point right close to your range limit, but don't insist on it. Like others said, a military starbase is good; but influence is also good in some situations. If there is a cluster of planets being settled just beyond range, an influenc

Greetings fellow Diplomats Congrats to Moser on the new races medal. I just noticed some welcomenews. Frogboy, under another forum topic ("recalc..." something or other) has said that the recalc will take place "soon" (his word). He also said that game scores from early editions will not weigh nearly as heavy as from 1.1 and later. . What this means, ladies and gentlemen and others, <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Laugh.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absm

But I had a crashing savegame, one that I couldn't load (or three of them to be precise), that's why I couldn't continue my Drengin game until the experimental .exe turned up. It was the last brick in the wall of racial victories. Ouch! That hasn't happened to me with GALCIV 2, but it did on GALCIV 1. I made hard saves every few turns... and

I'll have to admit that jwquinn beat me to it by some hours - thanks to crashing savegames earlier. On game crashes. I have adjusted the auto save to save every other turn. That way I will never lose more than one and a fraction turns. An autosave does not take but two or three seconds between turns, and it can save you lots. And, wh

Hey! You got the racial victory medal too! (I am assuming the medals show on your screen beneath your message - if not you might have to change the preferences. Anyway, I can see your medals. You'll get another at 20 games won.

"Speech! Speech!" Ahem... I wish to thank the powers that be for awarding me the "Medal of Racial Victories". As you see, it is the one with the green and yellow ribbon, and a golden triangle emblazoned on silver. It is indeed an honor to serve the Galactic Diplomat empire, and that would be reward and honor enough, but it would not look as cool without the medals. And who doesn't want those two things: To serve the Galactic Dilpomats with honor, and to look cool while doing so? Than

Good points. Just a couple quickies. Perhaps a basic 1 armor rating on ships once you get armor theory;... same with shield theory and point defense theory. But I agree that new techs should be more than stepping stones. I think losing a capital should have some great additional effect, but not be a civ destroying event. Perhaps something could happen to the government... anarcht until a provisional government is set up. or a degrading of the governemnt back to a

Well, I am looking forward to recalulation as well. My last three games hve seen my score drop, but not as drasticlally as some. But it is all relative. Not getting as high of scores in 1.1 as in earlier versions will all work out once the recalc takes place (if it is done correctly). It may be just me, but I cannot imagine stopping playing such a good game due to Metaverse inconsistencies. I figure I would be playing this game plenty even of there was no Metaverse at all. I like th

Woot! I have taken the first few turns with the update. What I have seen so far is s-o-o-o great! Especially appreciated so far: The destination points and paths for your ships onscreen so you can see where they're going. color coded resource points - yellow for morale, etc. These two changes alone are going to be immensely helpful!!

My wife has taken to standing over me around midnight to watch me turn off the game. The robot guy keeps saying a few more turns won't hurt, but by look in wife's eyes, I think the robot guy is sadly mistaken Ha! Been there, done that. There's that roll of the eyes... that look that only a wife can gi

I'm really looking forward to the recalculation, this might even prove to be beneficial for the Diplomats overall, and Magnumaniac is sitting on a pile of to-be-submitted games, I guess. We have been steadily gaining on The Overmind. We have four players in the top ten, they have none. We are still 30

I just figured out what it is going to take to get that "1000 games submitted medal" ... and it ain't pretty. Starting with a new character today, you'll get your "1000" medal if January of 2009 IF you submit one game a day... everyday... without missing. I don't see anyone getting that medal this decade... if ever. Maybe if someone is serving a life sentence in solitary confinement and has a computer with GALCIV 2 in his cell...

I was noticing that the Diplomats now have 4 of the top 10 rated players and the empire is rated 2nd. I have an idea that the change in scoring is going to make some big changes. By the way, what is the plural of "DaMoose"? "DaMeese" or "DaMeeses"?

Greetings Diplomats. Just saying "hello". I joined this empire earlier today. Looking forward to the discussions about how to diplomatically and politely take over the universe using tact, persuasion and the biggest dreadnaughts with the deadliest beams, missles and guns ever seen. Cool game, ain't it!

Tech victory on gigantic map, crippling difficulty, in 6 years. I do hope recount will give more points for that Wow.. see? I knew I had better insert the word "almost" when I said that. I agree... you deserve more points than you probably got for that. I still cannot imaagine how you did

Adding another comment to my previous. I am thinking Stardock really wants their game to be the best in every possible way. I am sure they will want to fix anything that detracts from its playability (or, funability). Before GALCIV 2 had been released, I had said in the forum that I would not be bothering much with Metaverse. In GALCIV 1 I had found that games where I would just play and enjoy were much more fun that games where I

Game's great. Looking forward to 1.1 and beyond... where no one has gone before. I suppose Metaverse needs more tweaks. With his humomgous score (the game lasted over 200 years) he took first place on the individual scores and his empire took second place in the galaxy - all based on only one game by one person. I foresee others doing this as well, ultimately leading to the top ranked individuals and empires all being the result of one gam

I tend to agree that I do not understand why the AI builds the way it does. However, I do think I understand the under utilization of some special squares. Food bonuses, for example. the AI (or human players as well) should avoid putting farms on them if the planet quality is 10-12 or less, otherwise population goes up too much and morale takes a hit (though, one strategy might be to perpetually send out troop transports from such a planet). There may be similar reasons for some of the other ap

First, I loved GAL CIV 1 and am looking forward eagerly to GAL CIV 2. I spent many, many pleasurable hours with the first. I figure it cost me less than a penny an hour when comparing the cost of the game with the hours I played it (I didn't really keep record). But I did eventually stop playing it. I found that trying to get my score higher on metaverse (I got up to 32nd place) involved employing less than fun strategy during play, such as "rerolling" galaxy set ups and employing in-
