Thanks for the new Beta! I was getting really fed up with MTW2 crazy bugged stupid AI, atleast now I can try out GC2 again. Big thanks for the UI updates, the colony management screen additions are welcome and whatever you do to make diplomacy smoother is super! Looking forward to the rest of 1.6!

Damn! Thats just awesome work, I hope there will be a full game mod too, if there is not one alrdy.
You are not alone with your Espionage thinking. Many other think that the current system is way too simple and more "general" like espionage would have been better. Spies with missions like cause unrest, steal tech, sabotage "wonders" etc would been much better imho.
I played DA plenty in Beta, but not so much after release, as to me, it felt bit beta still. Iam anxeously waiting for the new features of 1.6 (hopefully UI gets better) but I fear there will be more bugs with these features aswell. Anyways not playing GC2 for now over 3 months is taking its toll on me Oh well, no game is perfect and I really gotta hand it to SD, small team and still putting big
Its definetly best UFO:After**** game thats for sure. Did not like the previous two After games but this third one rocks. I agree that there are too many battles, but .. wait for it .. There are MODS to take care of the excessive fighting Also when you look at the UFO:AL forums modding section there is a sticky for Total Rebalance mod. Ill be finishing my first UFO:AL game soon and I think Ill g
@OP The ground combat is absolutely the worst part of GC2/DA still and if your brother did not like it in GC1, I honestly can say that he will also be dissapointed with GC2. It is basicly pressing Space Bar and looking how the numbers go down, I found the MoO3 land combat more intriquing. Not to mention the horrible ground combat gfx, some dont mind them, but otherwisly good looking game with 3D graphics having post 1980 graphics on ground combat catches your eye. Now everythi
I see my old thread is back from the dead! Glad to see that people like some of the suggestions in this thread. I too would like the fact if dev team gave some much needed attention to UI. Guess we will find out soon enough, 1.6 beta is due next week
Iam bit tired of these "look how well our game is doing" front page PR hypes, but what do I know about marketing I could not give rats ass what some review sites think about the game, the real truth comes out in form of user postings @ forums. Also seeing how these review sites give so easily "perfect" scores nowdays it hardy means anything anymore. There are such flaws in GC2 which in my book p
Nvidias Vista drivers are in sorry state at the moment. Expect troubles untill they can get their act together.
Sorry to say, but your not going to get any modern 3D running well with that card. The whole FX5xxx series was an fiasco. Hate to say it to you, but you got ripped off when you bought that card. Buy a cheap DX9 card from Nvidia or ATI and save yourself alot of headache.
With special abilities I would like to see this game focus more on your Home World. This would reduce the need of colony rush and make smaller empires viable playing strategy. Just a thought no idea how hard would it be to balance. I guess it would need little bit bigger PQ values for homeworld and special buildings for each race. ps. About the waypoints, I find it utterly baffling that its been so long time and yet still the scouting rutines of Auto Scout setting suck so bad
Hmm what about a tech that would allo smaller planets to be destroyed and becoming asteroid belts. I can see my Industrial Capital pumping ships like a mad man alrdy
Norton software is one of the most horribly coded piece of bloatware I have ever seen. I give you an example, I was at customers place who had quite slow machines. Norton took 30mins to install and even afterwards liveupdate gave me hell. I said to myself "screw this" and install Antivir/AVG on all machines which are 10x lighter than Norton + free and they take only about 2mins to install As prev
One of those things I have been wondering ever since the GC2 was released, why on earth is there no "deep sleep" mode in the game? And btw, if you really want to do us a favor SD, add a little "shield" icon for fleets in guard mode while the game map is really zoomed out.
The only thing I find sad is that EG got axed so late in the DA development process. Its quite clear that it took ALOT of resources from alrdy limited pool of man power at SD. I can only dream that without all this fruitless work we could have got better land combat, deeper espionage system and maybe better UP. But thats all speculation right there
@Stanley Tarrant You right on the money, I have the same kinda memory picture from MOO2. If a game 10 years older can beat modern day game in terms of graphics, something is wrong!
they should really do an overhaul on invasion animations. Those crane tanks and happy meal boxes shooting missles look so stupid. LOL this is so true! Been whining about em ever since the GC2 was released. Who ever created these GFX for land combat should be ashamed.
Is it still obsessed about smaller ships? Does AI attack your asteroid belts when in war? Any change in its fleet creation behaviour? Does AI upgrade its ships or just hold on to obsolete ships to keep its military rating high? Sorry for the question storm, havent been playing DA in couple months.
My ideas: 1. Implemnt atleast the best of these UI enchantment ideas. 2. Make it easier to understand diplomacy deals. Add points or what ever after each tech/ship etc, something so trading is not a "quessing" game. 3. I would not mind only ONE starbase per sector. Even with the 4 SB limit per sector I find star base spamming annoying. 4. Do something about land combat!! Be it only graphi
So we have been told from the beginning but atleast pre 1.5x AI did tech trade with each other like horny bunnies.
Some really good tip in here! I hope Frogboy is readng this as he could change the colony rush phase for the AI. The hazardous enviroments did hinder colony rush phase a bit but with a few tweaks for AI the colony rush phase could be even slower and more enjoyable for the player. As people have said in this thread, AI is basicly shooting itself in the foot with its overly aggressive colony rushing strategy most of the time that is.

If memory serves me correctly DL early versions had quite reasonable surrender AI, but now with DA they seem stubborn as hell. DL marketing slogans was "no more mop up" but seems like thats been dropped with DA Its understandable that some stuff get broken as features are added in, but none the less, non working surrendering routines with AI is exremely frustrating at times.
ONE thing many of you complain about however I can not quite understand. And that's ground combat. I mean: What do you expect? This one is easy, most of the people simply want more complex land combat. Dont you find the current system atleast bit hilarious? Throwing billions of citizens into transports with laser guns and off you go! During DA development devs talked about "legions" or some sort of land combat troops tha
Played a game a while ago with tech trading off and none of the AIs researched trade techs. Then again in another game they did. Must be a bug then :/
