And there we have the bottom line... time and MONEY. It is all well and good to make money but there is the problem. I guess you and all the others who are in the same profession as you... for how would you pay your bills if us 'users' didn't pay for your products? Actually, I'm not sure there is enough time and money to guarantee a 100% bug free game as complex as GC. You could get pretty close if you coul

So then basically you are admitting that you don't do your job well, correct? Or are you saying that you can't because what you do doesn't allow it to be correct? Then maybe you can't hang with your chosen career. No, what he's 'admitting' is that he's human. Human's make mistakes on complex tasks. Honestly I think you're just trolling these days, but I'll explain anyway: Let's continue his story example. In a long paper you ca

I don't want a strong military (or rather spend resources researching one). Why can't I be Canada or Germany? You can't be like Canada or Germany because the galaxy in GC isn't like the world today. Today europe and north america are pretty peaceful, and no one is worried about their neighbour carving chunks out of them if they don't keep up a strong defence. In GC the Galaxy is like the world from ~1500-1900 where a lot of the world (galaxy) has j

Well Drank has covered 1, check the treaties sceen and most likely they alreay have treaties with each other. Not sure about 2 though. Did your uncover come of the map and you found the minor race there, or did they get created on a previously uninhabited planet via an event? They should only start out with advanced tech in the later case, and even then should only get the techs as they start, they shouldn't keep getting them as you research. There's also an event where a minor race can

I quite like your SB ideas, but: Take Japan for instance. They, land and population wise, are one of the smallest countries on the planet. Land-wise the main islands are about the same size as Britain and the nation of Japan actually includes over 3000 islands. Japan has the world's tenth largest population, with about 128 million people. For comparision, Britain has about 60 million. Edit: @Devine: Japan's military budget is under

Perhaps you should set your autosave to a lower number of turns. I have mine set to 5 turns, so there is always a fairly recent save. I normally do, but I wasn't playing on my regular PC as I was away from home. I'd just installed DA on it and transferred my savegame so it was on the default 12 turns and it just so happened to be on the 10th or 11th turn after the same. Since I was at the height of the colonisation phase on a

So I'm playing a fun game of DA, the Yor stab me in the back, but after a short war I'm getting the upper hand although there's a good deal of mopping up to be done. While I've been fighting the Yor, the Dregin and Thalians have built huge fleets and have about 5 times my military rating. Better try and make them friendly with me in case they feel like joining in! I open diplomacy with the Thalians and strangely I see 2 "Declare war" buttons in the treatys section. I thought it might j

A startbase manager page like the colony manager would be nice. Across the top you'd have trade/economy/inf etc and under each it'd have x/y. X being how many of that type of module you have and Y being how many of that type you have the tech to add. E.g base name trade economy beam attack shields armour etc. base201 3/3 4/6 1/6 6/6 0/6 base 201 has maxed out trade modules, 4 out of 6 possible economy modules etc. You should also be able to highlight module types w

Several times with different (AI) races I've seen that the AIs don't seem to know how to handle planets containing just one usable tile and a bunch that can be terraformed. Everytime I've seen this they have build a starport and then queued up all the terraforming. This results in a planet that is useless for ~100 turns. If only they'd build a factory first they'd have a good planet much quicker.

Yeah, from the spy screen you can view any enemy planet. As long as you can see any one of their planets you can spy on any of them.

From the manual: "The farther the ship travels to establish a route, the more lucrative the route. Also, the more populated the destination and home planet, the more lucrative the route." So the PQ doesn't directly affect the value of the route, but most of the time higher PQ planets will have higher pop and be better trade partners. The actual income of the planet doesn't affect it, I typed richest meaning "best to trade with" rather than meaning "has most income", whic

No, it's a setting in options, been there before DA. Something along the lines of "Remove all functional parts when upgrading".

It'd be great if you could somewhere see the each race's richest planet you don't currently have a trade route to. This would save clicking on dozens of planets on larger maps as you try to work out where to send your next freighter. The trade screen or inteligence report would seem like a good place for this. Hopefully this wouldn't require much coding, since the data is already tracked in other places, and would get rid of some nasty micromanagement. Also, would it be possibl

When you upgrade a ship design in the shipyard and the box pops up asking if you want to upgrade the ship it doesn't show the type you're actually upgrading. All your other designs are there.

1 Replies 1,633 Views

The game was designed around the assumption that ships would top out at speeds of around 6 to 8 moves per turn. That means the AI was designed looking for ships that might be getting tops in that area. While I can see your point about the AI, huge and gigantic maps are going to become painful to play painful to play if ships are limited to <10 m

Noticed this too, I sent my miner to an astroid field and nothing happened. There was another one next to it so I sent it there instead and it started improving. I was rather surprised it wasn't used up to build the base, but I sent it back to the first field and it improved it then.

Given the names of the Altarians and Drath in DA have been changed to Altarian Resistance and Drath Remnants it sounds like they're the races to get stomped.

Actually, we're getting far from the OP's topic here. Damn threadjackers:p Still, nice to see some people are seeing the Terrans performing well, I'll keep including them in my games and see what happens.

I didn't read that post and it seems to have been removed now. Does anyone have a working link to it or a copy?

Hmm, didn't think much of the gamespot preview compared to the other two. The expansion will also address many of the gameplay loopholes that players are exploiting in the current game. The strategy of rushing out and colonizing planets at the beginning of the game is going to be dealt a big hit with the introduction of hazardous environments. <br

First, I only play on large maps and above, so if the humans are awesome in small maps I don't know about it. Having said that I almost always put the Terrans in my games and I have never, ever seen them do well or even reasonably. I don't know what their problem is, but they never seem to expand as quickly as the other AIs and end up being a tiny pocket inside someone else's empire. So, do others have the same experiance with the humans being wusses or are they just unlucky in my games

Anyways while on the subject of capitols if a tech capitol was built on a 700 bonus to research, would I get any bonus or no bonus wich I suspect to prevent the person from becoming over powerful. No bonus. Honestly, this should be changed. It can be a huge pain if you capture a capital on a crappy planet before you've build your own, si
