I have heard (but not confirmed) that 3 parsecs distance rule only applies to starbases in the same sector, thus you can have 4 starbases next to each other if they are located in the corners where the 4 sectors meet.
If you have a fast Internet connection you could just buy the download from Stardock today and play it tonight!!! I have yet to see it at my local super Walmart in Fredericksburg, VA; I have been playing GalCiv2 since early Dec. 2005 (I got in on the Beta).
I haven't tried putting the slider at zero to launch so I assume you have tried that and it requires that at least one soul is loaded. Either way when you elect to "destroy" a ship the confirmation window states that it is being scrapped not destroyed so we can assume that that one person was removed before the scrappi
The Dread Lord ships have lots of firepower but they don't join up in fleets. In my first mission against the Dread Lords, playing at level Tough, I lost only 1 ship, a constructor! The key is to attack one of their ships with a fleet and take it out in the first round before it can fire back. When choosing race bonuses, I selected 50% attack bonus and +2 sensor range. Initially I attacked their light and heavy fighters with my fleet of 3 Star Hawks A1 (heavy fighters with basic mi
Eyes of the Universe gives all your planets, starbases, and ships a 15 parsec range. I think this is the most valuable galactic wonder if playing with large or larger sized maps!

Come one someone out there must have some ideas!
I think any excess military / social spending should go to the next ship / plantery improvement, as is the case with research. Instead of unused social spending going to military spending, I think it should just go back to the treasury!
POLL: Currently all floating point calculations round down which causes many bonuses to disappear (e.g., a ship with attack 8 and attack bonus 10% stays attack 8 because 8.8 rounds down to 8)! Should floating point calculations round down or round off to the nearest? p.s. To round off to the nearest the devs. would just need to add 0.5 before typecasting to integer.
Why is a purchase/upgrade allowed that would exceed this debt limit?! In many places the -0.5 Billion cap prevents further research / social / military spending or starbase upgrades.
So now my question to Brad is, what if you aren't building any ships on that planet? Does the social spending that's converted to military spending then come back to your treasury as unused military production? Yes. Read Brad's previous dev. journals on v1.1.
Or maybe just keep the old design and add a button to remove all components except for the jewelry. That's was one of my suggestions in this thread. Link
Thanks Brad for removing some of the fog! Would you please explain how combat works with an attacker with multiple weapons types vs. a defender with multiple defenses? From what I understand weapons of the same type are combined in attacks but different weapons are separate attacks against the defenses. Defenses are combined against each attack with non-optimal having an effective defense of only sqrt(N). Thus it makes sense to have only one weapon
We have had dozens of posts from people guessing how the scoring works. Someone from Stardock needs to explain how the scoring works!!!
Where should I build my mfg, econ, and research capitals? Don't forget the political capital and the home world. Your home world gets bonuses too. Has anyone tried moving the home world? There is an option for it in the Planet Details screen.

Come one someone out there must have some ideas. I think the higher the difficulty level, larger the map, larger the number of races, and shorter the game the higher the game score. Does disabling 3 of the 4 victory conditions as also increase the score?
Why are you bothering with the stock ships? Create your own ship designs using your current level of tech and specialized to your current needs.
Bring it on!!! Currently the AI on Intelligent does not make use of speed (except the Dread Lords) so my fast fleets always have the MAJOR attack advantage! I expect the new AI at the high levels will make better use of speed. Have you considered having both attacking and defending ships fire at the same time? On the whole the game is well balanced except for the MAJOR attack advantage. In one of the Dread Lords campaign missions, playing on level Tough, I only lost one ship, a co
Hopefully many that illegally downloaded the game will like it and buy the game for the updates. Some of the downloaders may just want to check out the game before deciding to buy but there is not yet a demo available. The downloading may in the end help Stardock. Let's hope so!
Would the developers or gamma testers (which seem to have access to a lot of undocumented content) please respond!
I lot of how GalCiv2 works is under a fog and to some extent this is by design. However, one area where the fog should be removed is the scoring system!!! The military score does not make any sense!!! If I wipe out the AI with minimal losses, why is his military score higher!!! Surely you don't score points by having your ships destroyed!!!
Also, what gives on the military scoring? One would think that my huge fleet with almost no losses would receive a large score, but the AIs smaller fleet with huge losses is usually double or tripple my score in this area... I have notice the same in my games. It seems like a bug to me. The scoring needs to be explained!!!
If you upgrade one of your designs you can upgrade all ships of the old design in one shot but it is VERY EXPENSIVE! I don't bother upgrading ships because the cost is excessive and instead build new ones. You could decommission old ships or sell them to a friendly race.
