The AI in SE IV sucks which makes for a poor single player experience. I loved the complex tech tree (much larger than GalCiv II's) but this may have contributed to the poor AI. SE IV supports multi-player but I don't have time for that so that's why I'm playing GCII.

Choosing good could provide a moral bonus. This helps you keep the moral at 100% for maximum population growth and which in the long run would make good civs economic powerhouses (short term pain for long term gain). v1.3 will be addressing the load/save bug which many have complained about. Please also address the bug that occurs when you get a new planetary improvement tech (via research or tech trading) on the same turn an instance of previous version of the tech is completed o
After signing a treaty there should be a period (say 3-6 months) where you are not allowed to break it. This would restrict the cheesing war/peace/war... loop you describe.
Based on previous posts by Brad/Draginol/Frogboy, I think it currently is just a place holder. I'm hoping the new algorithms will be implemented in v1.3.
Have you tested them with Firefox? After the last update to the current forums, I was no longer able to create new posts with Firefox 1.5.0.4.
In addition to biological, chemical, and nuclear WMD, there are convential WMD. The fuel-air bomb can level a town but because it is a convential weapon the political failout of using one is smaller.
His first game is played with 1.2 on a Gigantic map at suicidal. Took him 3 years to finish the game! 3 years? How is that possible to even get the speed that permits you to get to the other side of a gigantic map? I recently submitted my first Metaverse game, gigantic map, 9 opponents, every abundant, very fast research, and level Painful. The Dren
Thanks unfunfofmpc, I would not have found that without your help, the button was almost invisible! Another Metaverse recalc and I move up to #67 and was made a sentor in the Overmind empire! All from just one game posting! Cool! Playing a gigantic map, every abundant, 9 opponents, level Painful was too easy although a micro-management pain with over 200 planets. I started a new game on level Masochistic; I'll see how well the AI performs with the higher bonuses and the fi
Speaking of the forums. Their recent changes broke them for FireFox users. Are their any plans to fix them, I hate using IE. Tuesday I posted my first Metaverse game, yesterday I got my ranking of 120, but I'm still not seeing my medals in the forums. Do I have to do something or will they appear in a few days?
...and now new to v1.2 you can locate the planet on the map! In my last game on a gigantic map (created with v1.1), I had over 200 planets. Trying to locate a planet with too much population, so you could send a troop transport to redistribute the masses, was a major pain!
Yesterday I posted my first Metaverse game (painful, gigantic, every abundant) with a score of 61250. My rank this morning was 202 and now it is 120! Now if only my medals would appear.
You have two victories on a gigantic map at level Suicide in 2 and 3 years respectfully. These are fast (although game durations are rounded down so a victory in Dec. of the 3rd year is recorded 2 years) victories for the largest map. How many opponents were you playing? Don't you find taking advantage of an exploit takes away from the fun? I just posted my first Metaverse game. Gigantic map, everything abundant, level Painful, 9 opponents plus 1 minor, ~1750 enemy ships destroyed
Metaverse Question # 3: Error 12 (serial does not match) - what is this and how can I fix it? This is generally caused after updating or a re-install. You probably mistyped your serial number, or left out a character, etc. You won't be able to fix the save game, unfortunately, and I can't submit games or scores for you. I received this
Actually, it's not really the economic bonus that causes the problem, it's the fact the AI gets those bonuses to production and research too. I think they get influence bonuses as well.
Rather than resort to this cheese, you can extend your range with a starbase.
Sounds like an interesting idea. And it could drastically change strategies since if you have an economy boost tile, you won't need as many farms to have the same tax income, so you won't have to have as many morale boosters, so you can put more economic buildings thus enhancing your economy even more than just the tile bonus. A high population money
When I saw the Web poll yesterday I tried to create the following new post: Tile: What is the Difference Between "more advanced diplomacy" and "more politics"? Sub-Title: "Tactical battles" = More Game Micro-Management What is the Difference Between "more advanced diplomacy" and "more politics"? I think they should be combined in which case this would be the #1 feature request with "Tactical battles" being a close second. Having played games which include
Um, why are you going around bumping every thread you've ever started... I didn't bump all my threads, just the ones I thought were still relevant. Unless a thread is a sticky, it quickly disappears from the first few pages and is never read again. Perhaps I went a little overboard. Sorry.
I would be since if someone from Stardock would respond with the formula. Perhaps, they are worried players will play to the formula rather than maximize their fun. This is a game after all so maximizing your score should take a backseat to enjoying the game. I'm playing my first Metaverse game created under v1.0, with level=Painful, a gigantic map, everything abundant (to maximize my habitable planets and hence population), tight clusters (to maximize the effect of EC starbases) and
Web POLL: What is the Difference Between "more advanced diplomacy" and "more politics"? I think they should be combined in which case this would be the #1 feature request with "Tactical battles" being a close second. Having played games which include "Tactical battles" like Space Empires IV, I think Stardock made the right choice to leave it out. A good human player performs better than any AI in tactical battles. Including this feature will weaken the AI and increase the game micro-m
I agree this is not a major issue. My major complaints have already been addressed namely, "Social Waste", unbalanced "First Strike Advantage", and "AI Building too Many Embassies and Entertainment Center" (or so I'm told, I have not tried v1.2 yet). My nitpicking is a testament to the quality of GalCiv II. Frogboy himself has pointed in his posts that rounding down renders bonuses to small values useless. It is a simple change but would be a lot of work because it would have to be ma
Bump.
Actually, I've always wondered why you don't get all of the technology and assets of an empire after they've surrendered. You have a chance of getting their tech when you invade their worlds. You sieze their planets. Why not their starships and starbases and whatever remaining technology as well? This was discussed in this thread I started: <a href="
Often a force facing defeat will begin take great efforts to prevent the "goods" from falling into the victor's hands... e.g., scuttling ships, destroying intel. Usually they surrender to a third race in the hopes they will protect them. That race only receives planets open to invasion (since they don't get the surrendering race's remaining ships) an
