I think I remember a dev talking about it (I think the name started with a 'c'), but I don't know if it was part of any release.

I think a military victory gives more points because you control the entire galaxy, compared to a small part of it in a diplomatic victory. More territory means more planets, resources, technologies, and money.
Congratulations on getting a perfect score on the only good show left on G4! But really, some one needs to tell you guys that you have to "milk you franchise."
D. Are the nebulas of fixed size, meaning they always take the same space on-screen regardless of resolution (high-resolution nebulas do not take more space)? - from what I've seen, this seems to be case. Most likely they can NOT be changed, unless the devs specifically put something like that in, but that sounds kind of hard to implement. The second screen shot is beautiful. The first is a nice first try, but it's way too bright.
There isn't one in the "D:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\DarkAvatar" folder. There is one in the base GalCiv2 folder, but renaming that only messes with GC2 and not the expansion.
I finished downloading DA today, and when I ran it, it came up with a nice little "Error Activating Product" message, and then crashed. I'm guessing it has something to do that I'm running it on win98, which could be causing the problem (I have XP on another partition that I might try DA on later.). Debug.err: Debug Message: Version v1.50 Dark Avatar last updated on: Fri Feb 9 14:05:57 2007 Debug Message: An error has occurred while activating the product Debug Message:
I would guess that it involves better texture compression techniques which makes the files smaller and more "optimized". The problem with that idea is that the more compressed an image is, the more time it takes to uncompress it. I'd also really like to know how they sped up the graphics, but I guess we'll probably have to wait until Monday for a
I can sympathise with your 3D modeling team. Rendering images basically takes up all system resources, and if you try to do anything else, you run the risk of completely messing up render that's taking 6 hours per FRAME, and yeah.... lets say I've done that at least a couple of times That's happened to me too many times to count also. Fortunatel
My box didn't come shrink wrapped, it just had a little clear plastic sticker on the top. Note that I got mine directly from SD.
It's kinda weird that no matter who's president and who's in control, no dramatic change occurs from within the country unless an external event forces it upon us. Well, not since the Civil War. Kinda gives fuel to the conspiracy theories. And the amazing thing is that no matter who's in control, everybody complains.
+ added in code so that when using the CTRL+Z cheat to run the game in AI test mode, it will make the AI take over for the human player This sounds like fun.
I mainly agree with you and I definatly agree with the idea that there is too much emphasis on political parties. The news has been talking about someone (Joe Liberman, I think) who is a dem, got beat in the primaries and now is ahead in the polls as an independent. I fear the trolls.
When I first saw this thread's title, the first thing I thought was DND. Any way, there isn't any distance as far as weapons are concerned. To increase a ship's range and speed use life support and engines respectively.
EA is nobody's friend. Don't buy their crap. Agreed. I feel a one sided flame war coming.
It's been said that if DA sells well, they may do it in a second expansion pack. WWW Link
It sounds like you got higher than the maximum length of a long number type. I could have sworn that they fixed this back in the beta. Guess we'll have to wait for someone from SD to respond to be sure though.
Online would mean you bought a digital copy direct from us. What if I bought a hard copy from you and just downloaded it while I waited for the game to arrive?
Everyone should be over 13 on these boards. Right M.B.M.? So they should be used to it by now. If he "dropped the F-bomb" or something like that, it would be a different story but why have we made this long discussion about it?
Maybe only 5% of this community wants that in this game. 5%? A poll asked if people would PAY for it and it got a 33% response. There was another poll but that wasn't MP specific so I ignore it.
Everyone did a fantastic job. Enough so that I began to wonder if 4x games tend to attract more creative people than other genres. Interesting question, I think its because people who play 4X are more patient and intelligent then those who ,say, play first person shooters. I mean let's face it. What other game genre lets you spend two hours tweak
But there may be some repricussions. How would players feel about a public beta of Dark Avatar even if that means delaying the official release? What if it meant more features? Dude, sure we'll wait. Theres one thing I don't get though: W hy is stardock so poor(money wise). Its aleady made the best strategy game ever made and is working on a rea
Also noticed it, refreshing the page seems to let me vote, if that's any help to you.
I think they might be doing something like this with asteroid fields in Dark Avatar.
Because there were so many good entries, we're going to expand the prizes beyond what we had originally said so that there will be more people receiving prizes. Always a good thing, really want to see who is picked now.
I would like to see wormholes , artificial or natural, stay after they had been used so other ships could use them, maybe only one way? Possibly with the need to add some attachment to ships before they could use them. For mega events, how about if all of the civ's homeworlds or the top 10 planets blew up? I would like to see how people would deal with that. Vassales is also a good idea, but I won't go into that any further.
