Well, point #3 from the OP was originally that way when they game released. They changed it when it was pointed out that when ships got into range for weapons, both should be in range for weapons. Perhaps an ultra-tech that adds an item you could put on ships (for a lot of space) that gives your ships first strike capabilities? I dont think

No need to manually bring them back for an old save - the designs themselves are actually in the save game file. good tip, that will save me some stuffing around time, thx

There is a more sinister problem with fleet combat. Once weapons technology reaches it's pinnacle and you have 10 supreme dreadnaughts in a fleet and attack one lone 90% dead crappy frigate, you WILL loose one of your nice ships. I really hate this aspect of the game. It kinda makes fleets irrelevant don't you think?

what i used to do to solve the population morale issue in galciv1 was to first, find a map with a planet quality '26'. Very rare, so just keep restarting till you see one nearby. You can send an awful lot of colonists to that planet before moral becomes a problem. Also you need the 'terraforma' project which improves all your planets and helps moral allot more than any so called 'moral' projects. The terraforma project in galciv2 is kinda irrelevant. Galciv1 and 2 in my opinio

Here are a couple of quick things I saw in my latest game with B2: If i was making a list of things to mention about my last game, i would not have chosen any of those ones you mention. However there definately is a bit of funny business in the game when it comes to ship selection - resulting in somthing else happening other than what you intende

Why not do something similar to Civ4 Civ4!!! oh how dissapointed i was after bying that game and tried to use my faithful ever so reliable artillery to bombard enemy units... You know, like your ALLOWED to in civ3. Complete dissaster. As for the budget issue.... i think the cap should take into account what it costs to buy at least

I don't necessarily think that's really the point. The question is more about if the game is more fun and if the super abilities are better balanced in one way or the other. This is a good point actually! On the one hand it is fun to be able to strive to obtain the tech and use it On the other hand it is nice to have somth

I don't see how this is "stupid". A setback, maybe, but not stupid. Just because you lose your capital does not mean you are the "rebel" force. Think of how many times throughout history nations have lost their capital (or biggest) city and have had to win it back. I cannot think of anytime in history when a capital city has been lost to a 'rebel

O.o i have never had galciv crash on me granted, i've not played the beta much, but not ever once has DL crashed on me you must have the worst luck if your copy has been crashing that consistently... Luck? oh yea, i think i have heard of that before... hmmm when was that now?? hehehe

I will be honest with you and say that X2 is a far more exciting game to get into than Galciv2. If your looking for the same thrill again, i don't think you will find it anywhare. X2 was one of those freakish 'haleluja' games. It really isn't fair to compare it to other games. Here are some tips for making Galciv more exciting; Form trade routes only with the Drengin empire (makes em super strong), don't use espionage or you will miss out on random event wars, Don't colonise too man

lucky you might have a chance to make 'dreadlords on parade' work by increasing their intelligence. Meanwhile the rest of us have to be content with the dreadlords getting creamed by the other races before we even build our first dreadnaught!

reminds me of a nice cheat in an old game i used to play - lords of the realm. you could move your unit while the AI was moving its unit to attack. It would end up stopping where your unit 'used' to be.

You don't need any money to update your video drivers. Just go to their sight and download the new ones, about 42MBs and version 93.71 for XP. You don't need money, you do need allot of patience! In my experience, it is never easy to update drivers. Not unless your lucky enough to have an auto update feature (pure heaven). manufact

Not a good scinario anyway. Firepower is so high that any old crappy AI ship can take down your best and brightest, one for one regardless of fleet sieze. In other words, you can have a full fleet of 10 dreadnaughts with staggering combined defences and firepower, and its all for nothing! one lone AI cruser will still take you one for one, it is sickening.

What you see, isn't always what you get! even in the game, you think you have selected one ship, and another ship moves!! Or you want to build a starbase and the constructor you moving around isn't the one that builds it! and i'm like "what the...."

A curious idea indeed. I guess it makes sense to have enemy ships with unique names... i mean who would remember the germin battleship 'Bizmark' if it was just callet 'battleship 2020'? Might be easier to keep track of enemy ships too and guage how long they have been around ergo how much experience they might have. It would be a tactical assistance

Please go to C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2 (or wherever you installed the game at), open the debug.err file you find there in notepad, and copy/paste the contents into a post here. This will give us some technical information that can help troubleshoot your problem. Thank you for the advice. I certainly have plenty of c

I think that loosing your capital is pretty damb stupid. It basically means you are the rebel force! Which is impossible because your ethics, government/abilities don't change. So yea, pretty damb stupid.

It would be more helpful if you also provided your debug.err and SE report. what is an 'SE' report? unfortunately windows error reports will not let you copy the error report from the error report popup. Neither will the stupid popup window allow you to see the full file path so that you can find where the error report is saved. <br/

Sometimes when you save over an old ship design, the new ship you spent hours building looks like the old one!. I discovered that ending turn brings up the new ship properly

The devs stated way back that you can steal the spore tech...... It's supposed to be that way. Perfectly reasonable too! No matter how difficult a technology is to obtain, it is never impossible. That is exactly why the North Koreans have nukes, and many other countries are still trying.

I never watched it, I don't watch Sci Fi shows, I don't have the time, when i'm not on my computer or Xbox 360, i'm watching Comedy Central, TBS, CNN, and the History Chanel. And I barely get time to watch those. You should live in Australia! The networks here are allergic to sci fi. No one in this country has imagination i guess. Everyon

Rush bying a player designed dreadnaught with high end technology can easily cost around 60k. And that is just one ship! The most expensive ship in the world today is a US aircraft carrier. Do you think they could afford to buy another one in an emergency? try 10! Get the economics of the game fixed!

I find that the AI seems to be far more technologically advanced when i select the option for 'no tech trading'. When tech trading is enabled, i find i can end up significantly in front of the AI technologically. Even when i played a game and i had two starting planets with a 700 tech bonus - i thought i would kick the AI's ass... tech trading was dissalowed but to my suprise, the AI researched everything when i was 3/4 way through!!! The morol of the story is, that s
