I would really love to know for certain if fleets make a difference with invading? You would think that the extra firepower of increased numbers would be an advantage? well it certainly is in space combat!

If you read carefully what i said, you might notice i used the word 'topic'. So although your point seems valid, for those of us who actually understand english, your correction is quite missplaced.

Who cares, just colonise the planets yourself and sell them off. Or do what i do... whenever i get planets i don't want (usually from surrenders), i just build markets in them, no ships and leave it to get conquored

I am not sure Pirates is a realistic issue. It is not like the Pirates you find at sea, i mean anyone can get their hands on an ocean going vessel, but space ships... In this game you need a starport to launch spaceships. If you don't have a starport, you cannot build spaceships, it's as simple as that. So have you ever seen any spare starports hanging around that pirates could use? have you? Unless there was some kind of support or backing from one of the races, There is no wa

I am confused as to why this topic is even being discussed? Why would anyone want to waste their time arming starbases??? Yes in Galciv 1 it was worth doing but as for galciv 2... c'mon, pleeeaaase - i don't even know why starbase defences are even in the game? Spend all that time researching the techs, max out the starbase, and the first half assed fleet that comes along blasts it all to smitherines as if it was a target drone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh sor

This problem of crouded shipyards drives me crazy too. Yea removing the saved ships to another folder, then bring them back for old games is the simplest solution. Also saving over current designs which is very foolishly "not recomended" is definately an essential thing to keep shipyards clean and tidy. I like my shipyard list to contain as few ships as possible.... needless to say, all the standard ships get obseleted as soon as they appear!! hehehe

Thats a good idea! Although it dousnt solve the problem of too many ship designs building up. At least it would make it very easy for me to clean out the 'ships' folder in the saved games directory without loosing any good ship designs. Thanks

Thats a good tacktic. Since logistics limit the number of transports that can be used in an invasion... small transports could well increase your chances of taking a planet (If you have an extreme amount of miniturisation).

Sorry, i'm not familiar with what's a good vidio card anymore.... stopped trying to keep up with the latest tech five years ago!! hehehe

11 Replies 9,521 Views

yes but i don't have a problem if there are actually ships of that design in service. What i mean is... when i have a cool design of a ship, but no ships of that design in service and i want to build one... of course i want to update its weaponry before building it, this is where i am having the problem. I want to avoid changi

if your vidio card is getting old, why not upgrade to a new one? New hardware is most often the quickest, easiest bypass of problems... so long as you would be in need of the upgrade if there was no prolem.

11 Replies 9,521 Views

yes i am NOOOO!what if you just spent 3 hours designing a really coool ship and you want to keep it up to date with your technology? Also if you have large fleets, it is an absolute essential to be able to upgrade a design in order to avoid long and painful upgrading of each ship idividually.

11 Replies 21,828 Views

Hi If i try to upgrade a ships weapons and engine, but i have no ships of that model in service... After i complete the upgrade and save the design, it automatically reverts back to the old crappy one? However it will retain changes i make in the ship description!! This is a pane in the ass, because i end up with sooo many ships and cannot change any of them, i just go to the saved games directory and delete them all when i get too many.

Ah is that what those medals are for! I have been playing galciv for years now and never realised. Although i only recently started using the forum since galciv 2 is driving me crazy with a few issues that were not a problem in galciv 1 Yea i can never manage to run a full game in galciv 2 because it is now so bulshik handling large numbers of ships and constructors. And the 'sentry' option is useless and drives me crazy. Once i get too many ships, i get sick of the handling of them and

only if you use all the movement points, and only if all the ships have the same speed - otherwise it will stall on every faster ship. The only real option so far to move allot of ships is to stuff around creating lots of small fleets.

You can defend against a much stronger opponent... the trick is to pick the right map to start with. Don't accept a map where your stuck right in the middle!! Try to pick a map where you are isolated in a corner. That way, all you need is a few well placed military starbases and you can hold out with pretty pathetic ships. This is what

most people (including me) probably cannot see the blue circle representing the spher of influence of constructors. You need 2 constructors when deploying a station. put two constructors where you think the station should go, then select both constructors - Yes! now you can see the blue circle.

Hehehe yea i asked it just before too. guess it would be in the top of the list in the frequently asked questions. Being that it is a feature that is so well concealed.

Thanks but i think i need more detail to help me find this 'auto launch centre'? What menue is it in, what other options are near it? what is below it? above it, beside it?

7 Replies 3,002 Views

Hi how do i auto launch ships? There used to be a check box in galciv 1 but it seems to have vanished in galciv 2?? It is driving me insane having to manually launch all my ships, please help!!!! Also is it possible to move a stack of ships all at once? I mean not just fleets but all the units in one square? I want them to move all at once, not this slow one at a time thingy that happens whenever i sellect a heap of ships and try to move them! This is another thing i was able to do

playing on 'masa' level, is just pointless. You would be better to play on level 'tough' and just give them half your planets!! Giving the AI such generous help kind of spoils the percieved 'reality' of the game and well for me, it also spoils the fun. However if only one AI opponent was on 'masa' level, then at least i can pr

The game i usually play when i want serious battle, is the old Total Anihilation. The genious of this game is the 2 levels of technology. The AI starts off building everything on level one which limits their capacity to overwheal you. Then as you attack them they start building level two units which allows the AI to really fight on hard and give you a damb fun game. especially on the all metal maps! oh my GOD total war slugfest, hitting them with everything i can muster for ho
