I'm not sure what everybody means by "turn based" I know that I have to hit turn button to keep going after I've done all I need/can do. Guess that means it's the computers turn. Seems like half the time something bad happens. 'Turn based' dousn't really mean anything. It is a term given to this game simply to set it apart from 'real time' games

folks who might leave a GCII game running and "ignore" their PC (leaving the OS active but not using the box). Can the AIs use the "idle" CPU time as an alternative or addition to the "more CPU" option? If they can't, how hard would it be to code in that ability? I'm not sure i understand what you mean? Are you talking about if the AI can make
Don't forget to contribute if you can, and then nag the regular folks on this forum about how little work most of us do over on the galciv wiki. I've complained here much more than I've worked there, and I deserve some grief on that account. Never heard of this 'wiki' till now, i'm off to have a look.
I guess when compared to older versions and other games, the AI appears much better. There is one thing i have personally noticed about the AI which stands out; it will actually travel past strong targets and attack weak ones. This is significant because in the past, most AI's will simply attack the nearest target. This has a dramatic strategic affect on the game. There are a few other things, such as a better ability to react to your strategies... but nothing that isn't ea
Anyone else think an AI should always be open to offers of "free" stuff? No. It is perfectly reasonable that a race can refuse to talk to you. On the other hand, it is also perfectly reasonable that you should always be able to communicate with a race... through a third party, traders or backdoor diplomacy.
Would you really wan't an AI that uses starbases as effectively as if it was playing chess?? The thought of that causes me to feel somthing an AI has never made me feel before.... FEAR! (that would be fun!!!)
Hi I have been wondering if i might be better off leaving my game running when i go to work or sleep at night? I would like to know if the AI experiences the same production delay as the player when reloading a game? Sometimes reloading a game will result in a permanent production delay - i have a saved game if anyone want's to see this in action? Do anomalies still get 'vacummed up' by the AI when reloading a game in version 1.4? I know in Galciv1 the AI ships wou
I would aim to run my empire on credits. I would practically switch off research after getting the universal translator. I would leave research to the AI and then trade for it. I would focus both planets on economy. I would get my trade routes going quick and support it with economy starbases adding only trade modules. I won't build starships or transports - i will buy them in from the AI and upgrade them to whatever i want.
I have seen this exact problem posted before. The person was asked to email a saved game for examination. I do not know the results?
As those probes find resources they get upgraded to constructors and another survey probe is rolled out. A good strategy for 'tactician' games due to generous finances. Other games have much more pressing financial priorities for this to be possible.
Ok, you wait while I design my new, Huge Battle Cruiser. I think after an hour or so, (including your turn because I started the design while you were playing) you will disconnect. Just a guess. I'm suprised by your post! Sounds like you don't know that designs can be saved?? You can design a cool ship, and save it before installi
If you have played games like Alpha Centauri or any of the civilisation games, and other similar turn based games, then you can play this game easily. Just think of planets as being cities and the rest is easy! Money is a serious problem however, especially early on in the game, It is pretty much set up at the start to self destruct you, this is normal. You must learn to handle your finances, there is not an easy enough level in the game to help somone who dousnt understan
This is a great idea. Clearly this is a strategy that you'd use if you're behind militarily and in technology but a great idea nevertheless. Yea i know all the dirty tricks to survive against overwhealming odds. When i first started playing galciv2 i did not realise the benefits of CNTRL+N to get myself a nice start with the new tile bonus s
Auto Survey knows the way. Ah this is a good tip! might make a few extra servey ships worth while? If i put anomalies on abundant, and built extra servey ships, hmmm, i am wondering if i can get more benefit out of the excercise than the AI, if not, then the whole anomaly thing is a waste of time. .... nothing can save tha
Mumblefratz That is an effective startegy, although i would never limit my options by building my manufacturing capital on earth. I like to put my manufacturing capital on whatever planet gets the random starship bonus. As for using CNTRL+N, it is not a 'crutch' but a portal to the realm of 'what could be', 'what if', what if i was
I wouldn't worry about making any ships to collect anomalies. You can get a couple of anomalies at the begining near your base with your flagship, but that's about it. The AI knows where every single anomaly in the galaxy is, there is simply no competing with it. It is like going on a treasure hunt where you are the only contestant without a map! In the options menue at the beginning, you can set anomalies to 'rare'. Use this to limit the advantage anomalies give to the AI.
What you see is just a cardboard cut out, Mr. Netro is off making more of those 'holoprograms' you like so much!
Mystik: Have you seen this event? Your post makes me suspect you haven't. The map is *littered* with these Peacekeeper vessels, and I have no idea what their speed is like without the Speed Limit in effect, but I wouldn't be suprised if they're as fast as the fastest ship in the most advanced player's arsenal. No i havn't seen this event. <
I personally used to use ctrl-n to hunt for great bonuses on my home planet. Gradually over time I gave up on it for a number of reasons. One of the main reasons is that by requiring a home planet with a 300% or 700% tile there's no telling what other great luck just outside of sensor range you might be giving up. I started playing Dreadlord
What a painful example of how you can see scale and complexity as synonyms rather than as poles on a linear scale... Why is a duck? because one of it's legs are both the same! (just thought i would join in the meaningless comment theme)
I'm one of the few who don't Ctrl-N over and over to get a bonus, I take what I am given I am exactly the same way! Whoa. I must agree... I am glad the tile count is exactly as it was before. Thanks Frogboy! Me, i love CNTRL+N, it is a very big part of the enjoyment of the game. I love to feel like i have a good foundati
Suggestion... if you want a combat advantage, use transports yourself! In other words, evacuate almost all the planetary population before the invasion, then retake the planet. It only costs you a few transports, so what, you get a much better combat advantage plus the possibility of gaining free techs. Although if your ahead technologically, you wouldn't like this strategy much!
This is a good and bad idea... Good in the sense that it would be much harder for players to conquor AI planets, bad in the sense that the AI would be allot less of a threat to players and would be far too slow to conquor weak AI civs. Since one side is attacking from orbit and has air superiority, it is reasonable that they should have an advantage. Also one can assume that space age technology alows for the detection of all ground defences and units. In fav
In 2A game the iconian's influence was over lapping my home system and i was just getting ready to launch an assault when the event happened. They destroyed all of my ships thus all the other AIs declared war on me. I thought it would be ok because they "should" destroy any non iconian ships in my sector. But no, they just let yor troop transports through to conquer me whi
No issues posting scores ever that I am aware of. Finishing a game! In other words, because my time is precious, i prefer to start a new game rather than spending time finishing an old game to the point of victory. Once the AI no longer challenges me, i prefer to simply start again.... mebe it's a sickness?
