Ships design and red dots

Playing heavily with shipyard, I am annoyed by 3 things when designing a ship:
- First, the inability to use an already existing model as a blue print. If I would like to build 3 ships that looks similar and can be used at the same time, I need to buid them from scrath each time. A duplicate button is really missing
- Second, there is no way to limit the red dots to those associated with a specific component. That could be very nice to have this kind of feature and would limit some problem when choosing the correct dot, especially when component are overlapping and mixing their red dots
- Third, there is no a toggable way to limit the red dots to those that are on you side of the ship. It is pretty annoying when looking the ship from the top, spotting a red dot, putting a component and finding that the component has been linked with the symetricla red dot that was below

Totally agree, I quite often want to clone a ship design which I can then modify to create a new design rather than starting over every time.

Basically I like to have ships develop as mk1, mk2, mk3, etc rather than come up with a completely new class every time I research a new module.

I have also noticed the upgrade button in the design area seems to have no functionality

First: Have to totally agree with that. It sounds like we'll be getting closer to this as the game progresses, at least.

Second: that might not be a bad idea. Maybe make it so that if we click on the hull or extras item in the scrolling list that only the dots for that component show up, and if we want them all again, not sure, hit the "show/hide dots" button twice? Does that sound like a reasonable mechanic.

Third: Odd, I haven't seen that.

Soland: from what I understand, the upgrade button functionality isn't in game yet.

I would like to a a 'Fourth' to the above:

It seems there are 'left-hand' and 'right-hand' components? I have added things that curve down on the left side (think classic klingon cruiser from 'star trek'), but the same part curves up on the right side. Switching to another part from the box, gave me the downward sweeping part. I find it difficult to choose the correct part.

Can you pair the parts in the list (two columns) to allow chosing r-hand/l-hand parts?

I know the whole ship design thing is just 'chrome' -- but I *like* chrome

Frogboy said (quite a while ago) that the final version will have some options to save ships designs to a file for loading into the design screen later. I hope to see that also, and I agree with your frustration.

I have the same problem.

Sorta related to your second point. I'm hoping the ship design screen will get some polishing when they stabilize the game.

It would be nice if there were an easier way to find the counter-handed item to a given extra. There's at least one case where if you're scrolling through the list, you'll think the counter-handed item doesn't exist, because it's drawn at a different enough angle to look significantly different.
