The single biggest draw to me (originally) in GalCiv was that you could potentially lose power of your empire and suffer penalties if you didn't remain "elected" in the advanced form of governements. I specifically remember the "senate" screen being the screen that finally sold me on the game... I just thought that it was too cool a feature. The politicla parties thing was also VERY COOL! I wanted some of that, and, when I got the game:
It was a cool thing- though I noticed it got nerfed in the later patches, because it was MUCH easier to remain in power after about 1.04 or so.
So what's left of the internal political game for GalCiv II or is all that dropped in favor of permanent internal stability? I hope not! That would be sad as it would mean there's no game of subterfuge worth playing in order to destabilize an alien governement too. No backstabbing spying/assassinating game- or bribinginternal rebels, or ensuring you don't overexpand too fast without making sure there's political stability to allow you to properly control your growing Republic.
Things I would love to see more developed:
The internal election process and maybe even having to cut deals with the other political parties in order stay "in power," like promising the war party you'll up the military budget if they back you in the next election. I mean a lot of this could be abstracted... but at least present in the game somehow.
The UP: God would I lvoe for this idea to be even more developed and involving. Truly getting shafted by other aliens in so peaceful a way and havng to take it (because withdrawing from the UP was scary) was a lot of fun, but it didn't happen ENOUGH!
Anyway- great: shipbuilding/design- great: pretty 3d- great: better AI- great: "terrain" in space- great: "strategic" tactical combat, But what would be really GREAT to me: Some political elements to playing the game!
So... anyone else sorta agree at all?
