Last night, three friends and I were looking for something to play. The StarCraft 2 Beta was closed for the moment and League of Legends was being patched. We joked about playing Demigod, before realizing that only two of us had it installed and there were no games in the lobby. So we did what any responsible person would do: We bought a new game.
After flipping through reviews for multiplayer games we would all be interested in, I mentioned that I had seen Sol Survivor - a multiplayer TD game. We all purchased and installed it. I started a lobby for a new four player Co-Op game. My friends found it easily (in part because there were no other games up.) I tinkered with the game settings. We each picked an officer blindly, clicked ready, and the game started after about five seconds of loading.
Of all the selling points, I recommend Sol Survivor because it just works. We didn't have to troubleshoot anything, we didn't have to hassle with a third party lobby. It just worked. No crashes, no bugs, no lag.
We played for a few hours, having fun coordinating who built what towers to counter the enemies coming down the line. We used our special abilities to kill them. And we had a good time There were five-six maps to pick from and five difficulty settings - enough to keep us interested and challenged. I won't be playing it every day, but as a time killer between matches and having a laugh on ventrilo, it was good fun.
I would not recommend this game for mulitplayer if you do not get it with a friend - of the whole time we had our lobby open, only one random joined. With friends, though, we'll get our $10 out of it.
