How turn off colony auto-upgrade?

I know that the default settings initiate auto-upgrades when new improvements are gained, either by research, trade, espionage, or conquest. I have no problems with that, and I can go undo them, generally, should I wish.

However, periodically, the game just decides ro re-visit all my colonies and do auto-upgrades.

This really POs me. I deliberately do not research Industrial Sectors or higher farms, but sometimes I end up with those techs anyway. So, when I get Industrial Sectors, for example, I know I have to go around and undo queues. The problem is that periodically the game just goes back and does it again, and again, and again. Not only is it a truly royal pain to ahve to go back and undo them again and again and again, but it is expensive as one turn social production is lost for each affected planet. This last game, the third time it happened it took me down below -500 and killed my carefully timed shipbuilds all over the map.

I have looked in all the various in-game screens and menus and have not found where I can disable that feature/bug. Am I missing it? Or, must I go into game files somewhere?

No, you need to do it on a planet by planet basis. It should be on the planet detail page.

I will look for it there! Even having to go through planet by planet will be okay, just as long as I have to do it only once and it does not screw me again and again.

No, but it will screw you every time you want something to upgrade and have to do it manually. If at all possible, get stock markets before you turn this off.

Oh, I've had every improvement type I want - most definitely including stock markets - for dozens of turns now, maybe close to 50 turns. In fact, due to invasions I may end up with multiple Temples in Multiple ethics branches. I wonder if it will get me tourism BCs in more than one?

To be more precise, click on the Governor tab. They're in there. I really wish there were a global option for that frankly as I don't like having it terraform my planets automatically. I'd rather do it myself so you can have the planet build an improvement as soon as the land is clear, instead of having to wait until everything has been done.

Yeah, this is one of the most annoying things in the game. And even worse, it's mostly only a problem with factories. I want my money buildings to upgrade, and my morale buildings and labs and even power plants. But a lot of the time I find myself just going ahead and building Industrial Sectors because it's far too frustrating to keep them from being built, regardless of the method used to do so.

You can watch for when it says that a terraforming upgrade has finished in the news blurb at the start of the turn, and zoom to it. Then add the building to the queue and move it to the top. It gets easier once you can remember what the corresponding pictures are, so you can just glance through those.

I have to remember after every invasion to click on this, too.

Late in the game, the AI has already converted to Industrial Sectors and the mega-farms. However, when I replace the superfluous research buildings with Manufacturing Centers, the Governor thing will redo them into those damnable Industrial Sectors unless I do that switch thingy. Also, if I take over a cap 6 planet and want it to be a 9 or 12, unless I toggle that thing the Governor will upgrade the farm or whatever into the largest one, making me have to potentially deal with the attendant morale issues.
