I am planning to create a new mod, and one of the features that I'm planning to put in it is new techs on the tech tree. In particular, I am planning to put what is called "Superweapons" branch in the tech tree, in order to supplement the regular weapons.
What are superweapons, you ask? Basically, it is a research option that allows you to build insanely powerful weapon systems for your military. Examples of subcatagories for superweapons research would be nuclear weapons, antimatter bombs, Death Star Superlaser, etc.
They will be designed to be strategic weapons, and as such I will make it so that you can't rely on them too much (like making them too big for any hull size smaller than large, etc.).
I want to include this so that, when the going gets tough and you find yourself getting slaughtered, you still have one last trick, or last hope, left. Also, if you happen to be dominating the entire game, to use them to finish off what ever resistance remains....
The thing is, though, I'm not sure how to get the AI to perceive their importance. I mean, I suppose that the fact that these weapons would be capable of delivering a large amount of damage might make them pay attention, but I'm not sure if they would use them intelligently enough. Does anyone have any insight as to how the A.I. uses a modded tech tree?
