This has nothing to do with my original post, but since my last post was about one of the cool happenstances that make this game so much fun, I'll throw in another one:
Playing as the Altarians, got a class 8 world with a 60% starship bonus, my highest ever. Gladly took the evil choice to get the bonus. Got several military resources, rushed Xinathium Hull Plating and later built the Doomsday Generator on the shipyard planet. Built all my warships on that one planet as much as possible, they came off the production line with over twice their pre-bonus attack rating. I play Very Slow tech rate so I rarely get past Small hulls and they don't go obsolete very quickly. Kept upgrading them and by the end they had more HP than a regular large hull and were utterly unstoppable. Though when the Peacekeepers showed up I was forced to build a few bigger ships to deal with them. Twas fun
