I just finished this mission after 2 attempts
At first, i spend 5 hours expanding my civilization, economy and research. Hell, i even forced the Drengin and Yor to make peace with my allies.
So for 4 hours i was making money, colonizing, researching, trading, and just when i had researched half the tech tree i decided to strike. I built these huge custom ships, fast and powerful enough, or so i thought. You see i hadn’t encountered any DL yet…
I had about 15 of these ships and it took the DL about 2 turns to wipe them all out.
^&^%^%@$@@!!!!!!!!!
My first mistake was that i was striking at the capital planet. At the very next turn, the DL ships had been fully repaired!! And of course, they were prepared. They had exactly the shields they needed for my weapons. I am new to this game and didn’t understand. It hit me later. “Espionage”!
I kept loading my last saves, making a few changes to my ships, but still….
And so i said, “No, THIS is impossible. I have to keep playing this mission for days if i am to win.”
The next and successful attempt took me about 15mins.
Oh yeah!
You see the key is written in the mission description: “Strike fast.”
As soon as the game began i started upgrading my Defenders and Transports with weapons, engines, troops and range modules. I needed some range expansion so i quickly bought two constructors to built influence bases to open the road to the DL planets. Meanwhile, as my ships were marching towards certain (?) death i had my lucky Survey ship cruising around to find Anomalies hoping that my +25 luck will prove useful. And it did. Also i was raising my funds by trading techs with the other races – even the hostile ones. That proved very vital.
And when i finally (and quick enough) got to the DL area i found that only 1 out of four planets had ships in orbit defending them! At that was only one starship. It was as the description was saying. “The DL evolve very slowly.” I threw my troops into combat, (a 1000 troops Transport was enough for each planet) and quickly bought starports on each of the three so i can purchase more Defenders to take down that ship on the last planet. It took me some well 6 ships to take it down.
So, 15 mins had passed and…victory.
I hadn’t built anything on my main planet, and didn’t colonize any other.
The difficulty level was the default one set by the game. Beginner.
That’s all.
PS. To the people that keep responding to those that ask tips about the campaign missions with a “Forget the campaign and play sandbox”:
This is not helping guys. Mind that there are players out there including myself that feel like following a storyline when playing a game.
Please excuse my poor English.
Cheers
