Out with the Mp3's - In with the Flac

I've begun to change my music files from Mp3's to Flac. I like the Flac format because it gives me the full range of sound, unlike the lossy Mp3's I've been listening to all these years. Even when Mp3's are ripped @ 320 kbps, they just can't match the sound of Flac.

Yep, I've been doing the same. Flac gives you so much more depth to the sound. Yeah, they are bigger files but I'd rather have 'quality'

Er....I trust you mean the new destination format is 'Flac'....ripped from your CD/LP etc.

'ripping' from MP3 to Flac will be a total waste of time....

When the industry changes I'll change. Till then I'll stick to MP3.

One of the many reasons I love having rockboxed my Sansa - FLAC support.

Another reason I will stick to MP3 - my cell phone only plays back MP3 or WMA...

You know what's a shame? The fact that the other big 'open source' file system, Ogg Vorbis, never got bigger than it did, either.

I mean, higher quality, smaller file, and open source! We should've run with it, but for some reason some talking heads somewhere decided mp3 is the way to go.

Flac is nice, but my celly and my 8gb Zen MicroPhoto don't support it. I'll just stick with my MP3s

( That's too bad, Killajosh. I just looked to see if the Zen is rockbox-able, and as of yet, no dice.

Man, I wish companies would put out mp3 players with more customization, so people don't have to write kerrazy programs to cover it up like Rockbox.

For everyone's information, though, if you're tired of your mp3 player not having the functionality you'd like check out Rockbox and see if it will work on your player.

Once you rockbox it, you'll never go back. It loads faster, sounds better, and has WAY more functionality than any mp3 player's firmware I've ever seen.

Let me get this straight,if your in your mid 30's & above you'll be able to tell the diff between mp3 & flac ?? ,somehow i doubt it,the best you can hope for is that it drowns the constant ringing in the ears

No kidding. My first mp3 player was a Sony one (don't ask - it was a gift). While you could use mp3s if you wanted, it wasn't compatible with wma or ogg vorbis, and (on top of being forced to use their proprietary program to put music on the player) if you wanted to use it to rip a CD it would only allow you to use their proprietary format, atrac3 or something like that.

So annoying, so very, very annoying. Every mp3 player I've purchased since (two irivers and a Sansa) have been rockbox-able, and rockboxed almost immediately.
