I'm not at my PC with it installed to check the stats of the two, but as you said it isn't a "logical technological progression from the earlier building".

Bioshpere Modulator...build one, then get back to us on if you think it's a waste of space. On avg I was gaining 3 more tiles upon placing it. It may be a 10% industry bonus, but it's about as effective as 1-2 levels of terraforming as well.

Ah ok, so the previous morale building the stock entertainment center. I think it may be an issue to the coding aspect to say "these 6 buildings are an upgrade to this building" as it may create an odd loop effect depending on what techs you have. For example, lets say you only have the stock entertainment center, then in one trade (not one visit to a race, but 1 click...so you stacked both techs into their side of the table) you pick up two buildings which have both been set as the upgrade from the EC...which building should the EC be upgraded to? If they keep it at "this 1 building is this 1 building's upgrade" it's more static.

Also, depending on maintenance costs, you may not wish to upgrade a 15% morale to a 20% morale if it's too costly vs a different building's 20% morale.

I think a better solution would be another governor to say "empire wide, replace this building to this building".

i'll second that with much gusto. throw in empire-wide control over auto-upgrading of buildings, and i'll be one happy nerd.

I'd be able to live with it... It would be an excellent and much needed feature.

I really wanted this feature earlier, when I was replacing the same building with the same other building on 64 worlds earlier tonight.

I thought of the find/replace option over the holidays, but I see that I was beaten to it. I agree that this is a better idea than my first suggestion. As far as getting tripped up on one or two buildings where I was not upgrading like with like; I'd much rather have to scroll through all my planets and make a few clicks, than scroll through all of them making several clicks on each.

I know this is kind of a problem, but generally by the time my colonies are numerous/developed enough for this to put major hurt on me, I have a pretty big cash reserve and can just ride it out. Is this not what other people are experiencing?

The times Creativity will upset me is when I'm researching tech like Industrial Sectors til the point of 1 week remaining then switch to something else, so that when I'm ready to switch to IS it doesn't take me long to research.

Sometimes I'll have a few buildings all at 1 week remaining, then once all my planets aren't building and I have the money reserves, I'll switch to 100% research, knock them all off then switch to 100% social and sit back and watch my money go poof.

Right, I mean the increased maintenance cost for industrial improvements.

To be honest, I wish I could improve ships the same way I improve buildings - let it take time. I guess there's reasons not to do it that way, but it'd still be nice.

Here is how I think it should work.

You have a governor which allow you to upgrade/replace all of a certain building, including any in the queue. If a building is being upgraded to something else already, you ignore it.

You would also have the ability to obsolete planetary improvements, just like you obsolete ships. That way I can choose which ones I still have access to. You could have a tab that shows you obsoleted improvements so you can un-obsolete them if you make a mistake.

And I like the idea of being able to upgrade ships in orbit at the starport. I personaly would rather it always worked like that, but you could leave it in that you can buy an upgrade in the middle of space, it is just a contracting firm come out and does it. It would just be more expensive than using the star port.
