Twilight of the Arnor no longer works since I moved to an AMFD Phenom and ATI HD 3870

I just changed my motherboard and cpu and video card this week. I now have an AMD Phenom 3600 processor and an AT HD3870 video card. Twilight of the Arnor just leaves a black screen when I open the program. I can close it by going back to the desk top with an Alt Tab but why is it not working. The previous Gall Civ II expansion works fine- Dread Lords

I don't know know if this will help in anyway, but it maybe that you're missing some drivers that the game needs to play the opening movie? I believe there is a command you can add to a shortcut skip it, something along the lines of -nomov or -nointro.

Or you could try checking for updated drivers for your hardware / reinstalling.

If that doesn't work or one of the more knowledgeable members here can't help, you'll have to wait for when the SD staff come back to work on monday.

Uh, you did some major hardware changes there, i'm hoping you formatted your HDD and reinstalled windows right? If not there's no telling what driver problems you could be having. Replacing a motherboard, processor, and video card without reinstalling windows will usually cause it to go apeshit. So make sure you remove any drivers that belong to your old hardware, and install the latest drivers for your new hardware.

Also, post your debug.err file so we can help you out more.

Most likely you're trying to load the game in a resolution that your new config doesn't like. Simply deleting the prefs.ini file from My Docs\My Games\GC2TwilightArnor to reset its settings may do the trick, or if not, open it in notepad and manually set the resolution to your desktop res.

Only if you do it wrong. I upgraded from an Athlon on an Nforce motherboard with a Radeon video card to an Intel quad on a P35 chipset board and Geforce video, Windows booted up fine, detected all the new hardware and asked for drivers. The trick is to uninstall all old drivers and devices first. People will uninstall video etc but forget about going into the device manager and uninstalling all the cpu, chipset and other system devices.
