I just wanted to say that I really like how diplomacy and influence has evolved since the early days of GalCivII. I for one am a peaceful ruler who will generally never strike out at another empire. I focus on keeping the people happy and rich, as well as making key alliances that will unite the galaxy. Of course if attacked, we will fight back with a fierce fleet, but only in defense.
As I mentioned in another thread, I just finished a game on a gigantic map where my civilization never fired a single shot the entire game until I was 7 turns away from a techvictory. It was then that the back stabbing bugs declared war, though a little too late.
Because we never went to war with anyone, the Drengins handed over their planets to us after the Arceans wiped them out. Then the Torians did the same thing. It seems they felt safe in our hands. Soon, we had many planets and could compete with the largest of civs.
Anyway, what I am really trying to say here is not to forget about us peaceful civilizations. I would love to continue to see this area of the game grow. More types of treaties and ways to interact with the AI would be awesome.
Also, thanks for being the best damn game devs around. I will continue to buy any new expansions for GalCivII you wish to put out! It probably wouldn't sell as well, but I would love a diplomacy expansion pack! Just any new way to communicate and deal with other civs would really enhance the whole experience for me.
