Hi, I'm SCPX, and as you can guess, I'm new to Galactic Civ.
In truth, I've actually been playing and learning how to mod GalCiv for a while, so I'm not really new, this is just the first time I've talked to the community.
What this topic is really about is my new mod that's out. It's called SCPX's Political Parties and it can be found under miscellaneous. I already attempted to describe the mod on the download page, but I made this thread for further discussion of this mod and future ideas.
SCPX's Political Parties should give you five new parties. It should give you the Anarchist party, the Confederalist party, the Expansionist party, the Terraformer party, and the Xeno Culturist party. I made these after already installing all the present political party mods in the library, and I wanted these parties to be able to coincide, so they are listed with high ID numbers. The following is a detailed description of what I thought for the parties in my mod:
Anarchists - I had built this group for a pirate faction I use when I play, although the real anarchists wouldn't bother with a party. Since they are against rules and for partying, I gave them high morale and similar 'happy' bonuses. However, if the Anarchists take control, you will lose productive capability.
Confederalist - I designed this with Federalists in mind. I've just finished a political science class this semester and decided that not everyone would want a strong central government. So I made this party, as the counter-effect. The bonuses were hard to decide on, but I finally decided on an economic bonus, since they were like the Federalists; a social production bonus, since each planet now rules itself and no longer has to worry about others; and a trade bonus, since the planets would be able to trade among themselves more. Many of you will probably disagree with me and it's alright if you want to change it yourself, those bonuses were just my though. They also give diplomacy and military production penalties...
Expansionist - I had this idea by looking at the isolationist party that someone uploaded. I decided that while you'd have people wanting to hide from the galaxy, you'd also have people wanting to expand. The expansionist party gives pop. growth, range, and logistics ability since they want to expand fast and plentiful. I would've given them more abilities, like ship speed and military production, but then they'd be too powerful. The expansionist penalties are to economics and repair since they believe in the expand or bust ideal and don't want to waste time about it.
Terraformers - The Terraforming party is just like the Expansionist party, except a little slower and carefully. I built them because I wanted a party to enhance my planets with and I knew there would be people who'd want to fix new worlds. So the Terraformers are a made up party built to give you bonuses to planet quality, home planet quality, and research for new ways of terraforming. On the other hand, they slow down your speed and range since they want to work on the planets they have before expanding too rapidly.
Xeno Culturist - Last, but not least, the Xeno Culturist party was created as a thought I had after talking to some of my friends who are major lovers of Anime. The thought I had was on how humans, or any single race, would be fascinated by the aliens around them if they suddenly met. While this is a form of culture, and thus represented in the cultural war in the game, you'd still have a fascination even if you have the better culture. Just the mere thought of a talking rock is something most humans can't imagine, but many would love them if we met, even if their culture is boring. So I built this party with major diplomacy and influence bonuses, and weapon and soldiering penalties to all who try to kill the aliens they love.
So now you know the parties and the ideas I had for them. Many of you will want to change the coding to something a little more of your idea for them, but this is just an idea. The mod also comes with a do-it-yourself guide that I made, which teaches new programmers about how to write their own political parties with the programs that every Windows system gets. I hope it helps people, though I have to thank Cari for writing the guide which taught it all to me.
If you have any comments, I'd love to hear them...
