If you seek a narrow minded, single purpose game, then by all means, create a crack staff of dedicated beta testers. Perhaps they should adopt similar programs to many of the gaming companies out there...
Yes, I'm sure all those games out there (which is most of them BTW), are narrow minded, single purpose games. I bet this is the only game you play, right?
Fix a few bugs, make a patch and move on to the expansion pak or next game.
Where exactly is the difference?!
As for "part of the team", I don't see it that way.
I didn't say you feel that way, did I? Would it have been clearer if I had said "part of the process"? I did use the quotation marks though...
As a player, you're worried you r game may not be all it can be.
Relative to the beta process? Nope, where did you get that idea? I was saying that I share the view expressed by LightVader.
As developers, they have alot more then that to consider, part of which is sales 101, make the customer feel special, wanted, appreciated.
Sure. But they also have to worry about how they're perceived by the community. And again, LightVader expressed his concern with the current system, and I simply agreed. I'm allowed to do that, right?
And I resent that you somehow think my being involved will ruin the game, or make the updates less than they should be, or that any one of us would have that kind of detrimental impact.
Now you're putting words in my mouth. In that case, whatever. But by saying a *normal* beta system produces narrow minded and single purpose games, what exactly are you saying about beta testers?
You know, noone mentioned any size for a beta team, nor composition parameters. Do you know how a beta cycle is managed?
Says you. The game is not all that matters to everybody. If it was, nobody would be reading this, they'd be playing the game, cuz that's all that mattered.
Well, you're in *this* forum, not in any other (right now), so I guess you're here for the game - this game. Also, these forums are kind of a necessity to play this game.
It's nice that you consider games more important than people and all,
With people I deal in RL. I'm here for the game. Of course you end up liking some people but *ultimately* it's the game that brought me here, and that's what matters. That's what I said above, and I'm sure you understood that, you're just trying to distort my post.
but again, you imply that somehow I'm not up to snuff on all this beta stuff, and that the update will suffer because I'm involved.
Yadda yadda yadda. Don't you think I'd be giving you too much importance, especially since I don't even know you? I know you're not really personalizing this, but you're not really thinking clearly.
And you're right, private betas would not have the problem of finding new problems.
Come on, don't be like that. You know this doesn't make any sense, and you're damaging yourself now

So we've established that all beta testers are morons, let's move on.
They would be found after the update was released by all us normal folk. Which is pretty much how it's done everywhere else.
You're trying to use *this* game as an example?! Ha! That's funny. I wonder why everyone else is stupid and never though of this system, that gives so wonderful results. I'm being sarcastic here, just so you know.
You complain about inexperienced people testing betas, and then say this??? make up my mind, will ya ...
Again, I'm not complaining about anything, and who said anything about inexperienced people - except for you, that is? You're trying to be smart, but not being vey good at it I must say. You should read things a little better. What I said in the part you quoted is that devs release betas with fixes without testing *those* fixes *before* releasing them. Even being betas, don't you think they should check what they fixed to make sure it was fixed? Hence the subject, the damaging of their rep if you will.
Why, yes I could.
I'm sure you could, and many other things.
As for "argument", to appreciate someones ability in a given area is a bad thing how ???
I meant argument in the sense of making a point. I guess you read into it what you wanted to read.
There is absolutely no point to your statement.
Of course not, like there was none to yours. That was the point
Try to keep things in the context they're presented in,
Sure, and I hope you'll try to do that too.
I thought you were actually trying to say something, but in the end it's all about hurtin' somebodies feelings.
Now this is precious. So you have two different measures according to what suits you atm... nice.
I'm sorry you don't like the fact that I can test yer beta.
Geez, you're a real distorter, for lack of a better word. You're actually abusing my post, you know that? It's not my beta, you don't have to care about what I think, and I don't have to care what you think. You have your opinion, I have mine. You expressed yours, I expressed mine. But DON'T distort my words.
As for pity, I don't even waste any on me, so I can hardly expect anyone else too.
YOU mention pity in your post. Don't try to hide that.
I love a good argument. This didn't happen to be one... but I like them all the same.
I love one too. And yes, unfortunately this one turned out to be a pitiful exchange.
One final thought... "Collectively we are more intellegent than we are Individually..."
More eyes, more minds, more....ons... we all matter.
Seeing that the collective is always present in any system (and assuming you read the whole thing), I agree. But there's also a reason why task forces are formed to solve problems. Also, democracy is a nice concept, but it doesn't work collectively.
